HOW TO CALM THOSE LAST-MINUTE JITTERSBrides- and grooms-to-be are often nervous when the day they will tie the knot finallyarrives. The realization that months and months of planning and anticipation are finallyabout to come to a head often inspires some jitters in the days leading up to the wedding. But the following are a few ways couples can calm those nerves in the hours leading upto the moment they have devoted so much time and effort to planning since becomingengaged.

* Get a good night's rest. Couples should prioritize a good night's sleep the night beforethey are set to walk down the aisle. Make your last night as an unmarried couple an earlynight so you will look your best and have plenty of energy on your big day, which will nodoubt start early and end late. A good night's sleep can go a long way toward ensuringyou're in a good mood as you handle a full slate of responsibilities on your wedding day.

* Spend time with family and friends. Chances are your closest friends and family mem-bers are playing significant roles in your wedding, and spending time with them is a greatway to keep your nerves in check while having a fun time before, during and after theceremony.

* Don't be afraid to delegate responsibilities. In spite of months of planning, couples willstill have a to-do list come their wedding days. If such a list is overwhelming, brides- andgrooms-to-be should not be afraid to delegate some of the tasks on their lists. Brides-maids and groomsmen can no doubt handle any outstanding tasks that don't require anyinput from the bride or groom.

* Relax as the ceremony draws nearer. As the start time for the ceremony approaches, couples about to tie the knot should take time to sit down and relax. Once their hair andmakeup is finished, brides-to-be should sit down and exhale or arrange for the photog-rapher to snap some fun pre-wedding photos with their bridesmaids. Grooms-to-be cando the same with their groomsmen, sharing a few last-minute jokes to ensure everyoneis relaxed and ready to go before taking their places. BR141880

A WORD TO THE WISE: WINTERIZE(NAPSI)-Savvy drivers know it’s wise to winterize their car before the cold weather hits. That’s the word from experts who say investing an hour or two of your time to have yourvehicle checked is all it takes to have peace of mind.Plus, it’s an investment that pays dividends when it comes to avoiding the cost and has-sle of a breakdown during severe weather.Says Rich White, executive director, Car Care Council, “A vehicle check before the tem-peratures drop is a sensible way to avoid being stranded out in the cold and the unex-pected expense of emergency repairs.”

WINTERIZING YOUR VEHICLETo help, the Car Care Council recommends the following tips:• Have the battery and charging system checked for optimum performance.• Clean, flush and put new antifreeze in the cooling system. As a general rule of thumb, this should be done every two years.• Inspect heaters, defrosters, lights and wipers.• Check the brakes, tire tread depth and tire pressure. If snow and ice are a problem inyour area, consider special tires designed to grip slick roads.• If you’re due for a tune-up, have it done before winter sets in.• Have the exhaust system checked for carbon monoxide leaks. Be diligent about chang-ing the oil and filter at recommended intervals.• Keep the gas tank at least half full at all times. And stock an emergency kit with an icescraper, jumper cables, flashlight, flares, blanket and needed medication. For a free copy of the council’s “Car Care Guide” or for more information, visit www.car-care.org.
