WHILE Halls Head residents might claim they live on anisland and Bouvard Island is promoted as an exclusiveaddress, those who frequent Ballee Island, South Yunderupwill tell you real island living is about no cars, no roads,where the only way in or out is by boat or helicopter.

Yunderup Realty agent Dave Austin said living on BalleeIsland would be akin to staying on Rottnest Island, butwithout the leavers’ parties and crowds.

“It’s an island paradise and there is plenty of room toroam the nature-filled sanctuary,” he said.

“It is a very family-orientated place – it’s safe for kids.“You can even go a bit feral on the island – you don’t

need to worry about how you dress.”While stating island residents would “find out what is

really meant by the term serenity”, Mr Austin admittedthere were drawbacks to island living.

“On the practical side, it would be difficult bringing yourshopping back by boat in bad weather,” he said.

Perhaps this problem could be resolved by planningahead or buying in bulk.

With only six houses on Ballee Island, agent Dave Austinsaid opportunities to buy into the island were as “rare ashens’ teeth”.

“The majority are holiday homes or are rented out.”
