STYlING: Step 1. Apply duo shield 07 color protecting gel-cream to damp hair, then layer rootful 06 root lifting spray at the root area. Make a deep side part on one side and blow-dry smooth.

HOw TO pErFOrm THE SKIN AllErGY TEST· Remove earrings. Behind the ear and using a cotton-bud apply a little of the unmixed colorant product sufficient to cover an area of 1 to 2 cm2 (e.g. the size of a small coin). Re-apply allowing it to dry between applications. Carefully reseal the colorant container.

· Leave for 48 hours without washing, covering or touching. If during this period you or your client notice any abnormal reactions, such as itching, redness or swelling in or around the test area, DO NOT APPLY THE PRODUCT.

STrAND TESTShades EQ Cream or Cover Plus may be readily accepted by porous hair that has been chemically treated or damaged from environmental exposure or heat styling. Always conduct a preliminary strand test to determine how the hair will accept color. Apply Shades EQ Cream or Cover Plus to a small section of hair and process according to directions.

FOrmulATION GuIDElINES1. Determine your client’s natural haircolor level using the Natural Level

Finder found in the Shades EQ Cream & Cover Plus swatch book. Remember to consider percentage of gray, hair texture, condition, and hair density.

2. Determine the target color desired by your client.

3. Select the Shades EQ Cream or Cover Plus shade that will enhance, balance or cool to achieve the target color.

uNDErSTANDING THE lABElEXamPlE:

1. TEcHNIcAl INFOrmATION

BAcKGrOuND cOlOr AND TONE Background color is the portion of the color base that helps produce balanced, natural looking results and gives the shade its foundation. Tone is the portion of the base that gives a shade its unique character.

THE cOlOr wHEElAlways consider the tone of the hair that you are starting with. Use the color wheel to counteract or enhance tones. To counteract tones, select a shade with an opposite tonal value. Remember, opposites neutralize. To enhance tones, select a shade with a similar tonal value.

2. FOrmulATIONFOr a rEFrESh: While using permanent haircolor on regrowth (Zone 1), apply Shades EQ Cream to mid-shaft and ends (Zones 2–3) as needed. Strand Test for proper deposit.

FOr a COrrECtiON: Follow Glaze steps 1–4.

FOr lOWlightiNg: Isolate select strands in a foil or paint freehand. For optimal results, a strand test is recommended. Formulas should be slightly lighter than the natural level and include some warmth.

FOr aDvaNCED BlENDiNg Or COvEriNg graY:Follow Glaze steps 1-4. For advanced blending use Shades EQ Cream. For optimal gray coverage use Shades EQ Cover Plus with 10 volume Pro-oxide Cream Developer. For maximum gray coverage use Shades EQ Cover Plus with 20 volume Pro-oxide Cream Developer.

uNDErSTANDING “ZONES”Redken uses the term “Zones” to refer to specific areas of the hair strand. The hair is divided into 3 Zones. Each Zone will accept color differently based on the condition of the hair. Understanding Zones will help you achieve even color results.

3. mIxING AND prOcESSING

FOr a glaZE: 1. Start with dry hair. Divide into 4 sections.

2. Apply Shades EQ Cream or Cover Plus to Zone 1, the new growth area, taking ¼ inch partings.

3. Apply and fully saturate Zone 2, the mid-shaft and ends, taking ¼ inch partings. Process as directed.

4. Rinse, shampoo and condition with Color Extend.

FOr a glaZE rEtOuCh: Follow Glaze Steps 1 and 2. Bring through mid-shaft and ends (Zones 2–3) for up to 20 minutes as needed.

1. Pre-treat the hair with Redken Preart and hair Cleansing Cream. Follow with Extreme Cat or redken Chemistry as needed. Dry hair.

2. Apply color generously to Zone 1 (the scalp area) using fine ¼" diagonal partings.

3. Use the opposite diagonal to cross-check your application to ensure proper application.

4. Use a timer to ensure accurate timing. Do not over or under process.
