The Premier has announced that from Monday 11 May, 2020, students in Kindy, Prep, Year 1, Year 11 and Year 12 will be able to return to their school and community kindergarten. Children of essential workers and vulnerable children will continue to be able to attend school for supervision. If you have other circumstances that mean you would like your child to attend school, please contact us to discuss this. For students in Years 2 – 10, the current home-based learning arrangements will remain in place. If low COVID-19 transmission rates continue, students in Years 2 – 10 will be able to return to school from Monday 25 May, 2020. Confirmation of this step will be made by 15 May 2020. It is recognised that some parents may choose to keep their child home due to concerns about COVID-19, which is respected. If parents choose to do this, I ask that you notify the school to discuss how we can support your child to continue their home learning.

PRINCIPAL’S NOTE
TERM 2 ARRANGEMENTS
Hello and welcome to my Principal’s Note for Week 3. As the school weeks from Monday will be getting longer and the days in general shorter, we will be embracing the time available to ensure our students are receiving the best opportunities to learn and enhance their knowledge and skills. I trust the past few weeks haven’t been too hectic and that learning opportunities were gained from them.
We are looking forward to having our Prep and Year 1 students return to their classrooms to engage in learning with their teachers from Monday 11 May.

Whilst on the school grounds, I ask parents and carers to pay particular attention to
the requirement for adults to maintain physical distancing of 1.5m at all times. Parents and carers should not gather in areas around the school such as carparks, the school gate or outside classrooms during this time. It is essential that you keep your child home from school if they are unwell. In accordance with Queensland Health Directions, parents or carers of a child showing any signs of illness will be asked to collect them immediately from the school. Please continue to engage with your child/ren’s teachers if you require assistance with the learning at home materials and expectations for students in Years 2-10. For all attendance questions in regards to your children attending school, please contact me (Mr Washington). Remember, “The Surat State School way is to commit to our learning, strive for excellence and succeed in all we do.”
Have a great long weekend! Mr Justin Washington Principal
