DESCRIPTION
The church at Corinth boasted the unshakable conviction that they were successful, lively, mature and effective. But this was all an illusion for there existed in Corinth deep-seated problems. We have seen the way in which they had allowed personality cults to fragment the church into little party groupings. This in turn caused them to be reluctant to receive teaching from others and many were unprepared to listen to what the apostles, including Paul, had to say to them. This church could only be helped if their illusion of greatness could be dismantled and this is something Paul begins to do in this passage. Introduction
