Saturday, June 18th marked the 4th Annual Dot & Johnstock Fundraiser at the Stony Creek Inn.This years event raised $7,000. Cindys Cancer Retreats $3,500 will provide programs as well asopportunities for people living with and beyond cancer to attend weekend retreats to help themthrough their journey.The Southern Adirondack Musicians Fund (SAM) also received $3,500 toward their emergencyfund to help local musicians and their families in need.The day was graced by beautiful weather, great food, an amazing, huge silent auction and music-music-music. A good time was had by all, with many Cindy Retreaters, musicians and their familiespresent. Glens Falls Hospital Charles Wood Cancer Staff provided educational and fun give-awaysas well as a presentation of Cindys Retreat photos.Much thanks and heartfelt gratitude to all the local businesses, donators, contributers and volunteerswho gave so generously of their goods, services, body & spirit.

Persis Granger, whose business Fiction Among Friends organizesevents for writers, was notified that her upcoming events have garnered agrant from Poets & Writers, Inc., with public funds from New York StateCouncil on the Arts, a state agency. The grant was awarded to partiallyfund workshops and reading presented by Ms. Irene Sherlock, accom-plished author, poet and teacher, who will present workshops and readingsin our area in July. Granger has arranged for Sherlock to present a creativewriting workshop at Willows Bistro on July 21, working with up to twentyparticipants. Following the workshop and dinner, she will read from hernew chapbook, Equinox, published by Finishing Line Press. NY State Public Health Crisis Recognized New York State Govern-ment Finally Says YES to Certificate of Still Birth

Since 2003, New York families, having experienced the tragedy of still-birth, have been fighting for the respect and recognition of birth. All states,including New York, require the family to pay for funeral expenses andissue a death certificate. Until now, New York did not offer the choice of abirth certificate. On June 16th the New York legislature overwhelminglypassed a bill to provide a certificate of still birth. Bill number A8178a(S3111b) helps provide much-needed comfort, dignity, and documentationto women and their families having experienced a stillbirth. This publichealth crisis devastates more than 1,700 New York families each year, andmore than 30,000 nationwide. This bill is pro-women and pro-family; women have the right to know

about the prevalence of stillbirth and what they can do to help prevent it,said Michelle Mosca, Founder and President of Angel Names Association.The bill will increase awareness of stillbirth, and in doing so may stimulatethe allotment of research funds to uncover the etiology/ies of stillbirth. Innearly 60% of cases there is no medically discernible reason why stillbirthhas occurred. Stillbirth is defined as an unintended intrauterine death occurring post 20weeks gestation.
