Ongaonga School Newsletter – 29 th March 2017 - Term 1 - Week 9 Greetings to the Ongaonga School Community. Nga mihi nui Ki a Koutou Water Our school water is officially safe to drink. It has passed three days of checking and we took the extra precaution of flushing the system over the weekend. We are currently working on a longer term solution to include UV sterilisation of our water and a new water tank. Compassion Compassion has been our value of the week where we look after each other. There has been plenty of evidence from students and parents including; older students helping younger students with reading and writing and out in the playground, being a supportive friend, games at lunchtimes, caring for others with bumps or feeling sad, donations and fundraising, positive members of the learning triangle - students, teachers and parents. It takes a community to raise a child and we are a great community! PALs I was fortunate enough to take our student leaders to the PALs training day. We were mixed in with all the other CHB Schools in teams to participate in skill and cooperative games. The intended outcome for our leaders is to initiate games at our school at lunchtime to encourage activity, cooperation and inclusion. Our leaders were great role models and are planning their sessions to start next term. Role modelling An ad campaign of a few years ago, stated that if we want to know what our children will turn out like as adults, look in the mirror. Role modelling has a huge impact on how our children behave. Keeping safe and therefore following the law or rules is important. Yellow lines mean no stopping. The area around the buses is yellow lined so please use the car parks to drop children off or to pick them up. The side gate near the pool is the recommended access for pedestrians. Cracker

I love to do lots of things with my pony Cracker, especially tricks and jumping. On Sunday we went to a Dannevirke jumping day. We competed in 30cm, 40cm, and 50 cm classes. We went clear in all of them and fast enough to get a ribbon. It was so much fun! By Abbey Strang Room 5
