ONGAONGA SCHOOL NEWSLETTER – 10TH DECEMBER 2019 - TERM 4 - WEEK 9 Greetings to the Ongaonga School Community. Ngā Mihi nui ki a Koutou. Prizegiving Sports Prizegiving – Thursday, 12 th December at 1.30pm – acknowledging the outstanding sporng achievements of our students throughout the year. Whole School Prizegiving – Monday, 16 th December at 5.30pm – acknowledging service awards and celebrang excellence and achievement. Both events will be held at school unless it is wet, in which case we will utilise the Ongaonga Hall. Students are to wear uniform to both prizegiving days, the only exception being the Year 8 students, who for their final year, are expected to be dressed formally. End of Year Reports End of year reports are being issued today. They are issued at this time of year so if you have a question about the content, you have time to contact your childs teacher before the end of the year, rather than sitting on it over the break. Classes for Next Year Class placements for 2020 are tentatively set with the current information we have. Students will visit their 2020 classes to meet their new teacher or be informed of their new teacher and classmates on Monday morning. This is a great way to remove anxiety over the holiday break. I would like to clarify that the 2020 class placement is the most likely scenario to occur. If we have a number of families move in or out of the area, we may have to adjust classes accordingly at the start of school next year. Class lists will be on the office window on Friday morning. The market starts at 5.30pm in the evening and there will be a sausage sizzle along with some demonstrations of different activities. At the market, stalls will be selling their product using Onga Dollars which can be exchanged with NZ dollars at the Ongaonga Bank in the school office. Children can exchange their money through their teachers, parents can exchange money at the Ongaonga Bank in the school office. Todays exchange rate is $NZ1 = $Onga1. As it is a Christmas theme, students can be dressed in Xmas mufti. We would love to see you all there! Last Day We finish on Tuesday, 17 th December at 12.30pm. Commonly found in baby powder and toothpaste Q: Is the powder gluten free? A: Yes. As there is no gluten protein in the starchy (carbohydrate) portion of a corn grain. The facility that the colour powder is manufactured in only produces colour powder so there is no concern with cross contamination. Q: Will the powder affect asthmatics? A: The colour powder will create a cloud of colour powder in the air, for most people inhaling a small amount of the colour powder as they move through the cloud is not problematic. Prizegiving

Sports Prizegiving – Thursday, 12th December at 1.30pm –

OFFICE NEWS Academic Prizegiving Monday, 16th December @ 5.30pm. A reminder that students are required to wear their school uniform to this prizegiving. However, Year 8s may wear formal dress. Lost Library Books If you have been given an account for a lost library book, it would be appreciated if this could be settled this week please. Bus Please txt your child’s bus driver first thing in the morn-ing, or the night before if your child is NOT catching the bus to school. Bus Message Board A reminder that at the end of the school year all permanent messages are taken off the bus message board. Parents will need to come in at the start of next year or ring in any permanent messages that they require.

Greetings from Otane Arts & Crafts Corner The Art Room at Otane Arts & Crafts Corner is excited to announce that our next “Art in the Park” event will be for your Young Artists. Our “Kids Art in the Park” exhibition will be held Sunday, 22 Decem-ber, Nellie Jull Park from 10am to 2pm. There will be some art activities happening as well! We invite proud Teachers & Parents, to gather up that lovely Art Work for our Exhibition. All that is required is that it is labelled with the child’s name, age & school.
