Dear Parents and Caregivers, Thank you to the many who attended the ‘Meet the Teacher Nights’ What a great opportunity to meet with your child’s teacher and find out a little more about them and the manner in which they will be working with children. Pastoral Care Worker

A very big welcome back to all. I hope you had wonderful holidays and are feeling like you are ready for 2019!

Doesn't a new start sound great? Romans 12:1 says!

“So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.” (MSG)

The very first step toward change is to believe that you can. You don’t have to stay the way you are because God is a God of change and transformation. He can

bring change to your life and bring the best out of you.❤

I am excited to inform you that I will be at Pilgrim on Thursdays and Fridays. I will also be busy around the school. If you need to speak with me I am contactable via the front office or via my email address below.

The role of the Pastoral Care Worker is supported by School Ministry Group (SA).

Campus Library Volunteers Needed

The Campus Library appreciates the help of a number of dedicated volunteers.

In a large Library such as the Campus Library, we are always grateful for any assistance. We require volunteers to assist at the circulation desk, re-shelving books, processing of new resources and with library displays.

If you are able to assist with some of these activities on a regular or occasional basis please contact us in the Library at your convenience.

With an emphasis on providing a safe working environment, we cannot provide an appropriate place for volunteers to bring young, pre-school children. As with all Campus volunteers it is a requirement that you obtain

a Child-Related Employment Screening. Please see the Administration staff in your school to organise this. Costs for the screening will be covered by the Schools.

No prior library experience is necessary, the Library staff are happy to provide training as needed.

Contact us: You can phone your school office and request to speak with Library staff. You can drop in and see us and take a look around the Library. You can email us.

Smart Movers

New Exciting Program for Selected Students. This year, Campus will be offering a physical intervention program that focuses on the development of balance, eye tracking and coordination, body awareness, locomotion and fitness. The program is designed to develop children’s perception, through multiple movement perceptual movement stations, directed by an SSO/ESO and teacher. The program should be viewed as a preventative and a holistic approach to developing transferable and lifelong skills that will enhance their confidence in the PHYSICAL world. Students selected will participate in 4 key stations twice a week and will be assessed at the end of a 10 week period. Each child’s journey will be independently managed and therefore will result in an individualized program. If your child is assessed and selected for the program, you will be notified via email. The term 1 program will consist of student’s in Years 1 and 2.

What Pilgrim means to me Bianca Graduated Year 7 2018

We have been here at Pilgrim, for the past 8 years, and it has been Amazing! There have been so many opportunities, challenges, risks, Leadership opportunities, and many highlights. Through my past eight years at Pilgrim there have been many highs and lows. I have experienced lots of fun activities and some not so much. All of the teachers I have had whilst attending this school have been a great help from helping me with tough work questions to dramas with friends in the playground.

If I was to use three words to describe the people at Pilgrim school I would say, welcoming, helpful and this is technically four words but servant hearted.

I remember when I started here everybody was very kind and welcoming and it was easy to make friends. I am now even closer to the students in my class and will be extremely sad to leave. If any of you are worrying about your school work or drama with friends, just remember that your teachers will always be there to help you work through problems.

Being at Pilgrim school has encouraged me to take risks and try new things. There have been many opportunities to be who I am and show my talents. This year I was able to be one of the main characters in the musical and express myself through singing and acting.

I have enjoyed the many worships and assemblies my class has been involved in through the years. Pilgrim has been quite a big part of my life, I have been going here almost everyday since I was five years of age. Now it is time for me to leave and I know that I will miss every single person.

What Pilgrim Means to Me

By Abi Year 7 2018

I have been at Pilgrim for all my life since I was four years old. I still remember when I first started in reception, and absolutely loved my first week, but then I

realised that School was a daily thing, and not just a once off. But after the next few weeks of me clinging to Mum and begging her not to go, I finally started to get used to having to go each day. Some of the many opportunities I have experienced have been Musicals, Excursions, Camps, Worships, and Assemblies. I have had Leadership opportunities such as being an SLT in year 5, a Sports Captain this year, and also a Performing Arts Captain. These have all been great opportunities for me, and have allowed me to help the school, but also enjoy doing the things I love. My time here has had its ups and downs. I have been through many challenges, but in these times, I have learnt to just relax, and to trust in God, and his amazing plan for me. Also, when I have been through tough times, I always know that I can look to the amazing staff here for support, and especially my amazing friends. Over the years, I have really grown a lot. This school now feels like my second home, and the teachers, staff, and classmates who have put up with me for a long time now, feel like my second family. I know for certain that I will miss everyone here so much, but I also know that God is walking ahead of me, and is in control.

Makers Empire In 2018 we introduced Makers Empire across Campus. This week we received the exciting news of the following awards:

Winner: Most designs created by a school

Winner: Greatest usage by a school

Winner: Most challenges completed by a school

The new Makers Empire Awards are designed to celebrate and showcase the students, teachers, classes and schools that make up our global education community.

Makers Empire’s 3D design software is used to create over 15,000 3D designs every day. To date, students around the world have used Makers Empire to create over 4.5 million 3D designs.

The skills and attitudes students are demonstrating as designers are very important and will help them to be successful in the future. They’ll be able to identify problems, visualise solutions and design new and improved ways of doing things. The world needs people like this who can think outside the square and create innovative new ideas.

Congratulations to everyone on Campus for this significant achievement. Every child on Campus has access to this program, which they can also use from home.

School Parking

Kids stay safe, people follow rules…. And save themselves a fine!

A letter from City of Onkaparing

With the new school year commenced, I am writing to reiterate our expectations with regards to parking outside or near to schools during their hours of operation.

The ‘Australian Road Rules’ give direction on parking restrictions and that which drivers of vehicles are required to comply with. The rules that are most prevalent to school parking and those which our Community Safety Officers enforce compliance with are as follows:

Vehicles must not stop in a NO STOPPING ZONE, even for a few seconds to pick up your child.

Vehicles may stop in a NO PARKING ZONE for three minutes of less to pick up a child who is waiting nearby. You must not park or leave the vehicle.

Vehicles must not double park, or stop in the line of traffic, to pick up or drop off a child.

Vehicles must not stop in a bicycle lane.

Vehicles must not stop in a Bus Zones

Vehicles must not stop within 20 metres before a crossing or 10 metres after a crossing.

Vehicles must not stop within 10 metres of an intersection or junction without traffic lights.

Vehicles must not park over driveways

Vehicles must not park on the verge

Community Safety Officers recognise that vehicle movement around schools create high risks zones for pedestrian safety and will engage and educate drivers, along with issue fines for illegal parking if appropriate in the circumstances.

We wish everyone to have a successful and safe school year and ask parents to be mindful of their own behaviour around schools, whether in relation to where they park or the respect shown to our Officers trying to ensure safety of others.

It would be appreciated if you could include information in your schools newsletter regarding the need to comply with the road rules.

If you have any queries or questions regarding compliance with the road rules please contact the Team Leader or a Senior Ranger from our Community Safety team 8384 0666.

If you have any queries or questions regarding the placement of existing or new parking controls please contact the Traffic Engineers from our Traffic Management team 8384 0666.
