Page 11 Maungaturoto Matters “May the Forth Be With You – (Not Star Wars)” The auditions have been held for this years pantomime and the cast is now in rehearsals. Ngaire Dent has taken the role of di- rector and is settling into her charges in developing many new cast members into the ways of the stage and pantomime. It is again a great sign of the health of t he theatre in that there are new members on stage and many roles were hotly contested. The plot of the show is rather confused at this stage but after seeing the enthusiasm of cast and crew, I am sure it will be an- other fantastic show. I understand there will be lots of aliens, weird creatures, things with woks on their heads, personalities who have poor speech delivery and even some rather “vain” characters. So prepare for a great show by checking your calendars now. Opening show is November 28 at 2.00pm through to December 12. ORT 50th Anniversary ORT was incorporated in 1961 and consequently we are prepar- ing for a celebration of fifty years of theatre in Maungaturoto during Labour weekend, 2011. If you have been involved with the theatre during this time or know of someone who has, please advise a committee member so that they can be contacted. Also we welcome those who participated in stage and entertain- ment groups prior to 1961 to join us in t his great salutation to the stage and show business in the Otamatea region. Annual General Meeting The annual general meeting of ORT will be held at the theatre on October 21st at 7.00pm. This is your chance to join the working team, so please come along and put your name up for election in any of t he places on the committee. Everybody is most welcome. Club Night Club night is held on the first Friday of the month from 7.30pm. Friday October 1st – Play reading. If you would like to have your favourite play read at a theatre, bring it along. Friday November 5th – Script writing. Members and non members are all welcome. A small cover charge applies to non members. DON’T FORGET We have an extensive wardrobe and the costumes are available for hire at attractive rates for any occasion, please contact Fran- ces Yardley on 431 8737, or contact a committee member. Christmas party time is approaching and your one may have a theme to which we may be able to cater to your “dress up” de- sires. It is truly amazing what there is, stored on the racks. An experience I will never forget. Along with other New Zealanders I have watched the ongoing leveling of a familiar and beloved landscape. I have seen the indignation and grief as historic buildings submit to the chal- lenge of unanticipated destruction. Homebuilders work landscape also underwent some radical changes in the past months. The first shaking occurred in December, when our CYFS con- tract was abruptly altered, and we were told the counselling as- pect of our work now required higher qualifications for those clients. For those on the Board and Family Support Staff who had been with the organisation for over twenty years this change caused concern. That which was familiar and beloved was being forced to undergo an unanticipated shaking. As a result we have now employed a registered counsellor Bron- wyn Lyell who trained at Lifeway College and who is available at no charge to the families in this a rea. If you feel that this is a service you might like to make use of please feel free to r ing the office and make an appointment. Bronwyn will also be filling a role as a Family Support Worker for Homebuilder. Our changing landscape also includes a counselling room and a lounge which the Brook family has made available to us in the building next door. This will ensure privacy and quiet for any clients who access th is service. Many thanks to the Book family for their willingness to help us provide a new service. We also have another new employee Pauline Williams. Pauline is studying at North Tec and will continue to complete her stud- ies in Social Work while she works part time for Homebuilders also as a Family Support Worker. I would like to welcome both of these ladies to our team and hope that they will be with us for some time to come. In Tragedy GOD BE GOOD

Natural Disasters are becoming a common experience of many

nations today Tsunamis Huricanes Floods Fires Volcanoesand Earthquakes in our own Aoateroa Its frequency is slowlybut surely drawing out of us the question ldquoWhat is happening toour worldrdquo We may combat man-made inflicted tragedies liketerrorism and wars but for natural disasters man can only pre-pare for the worst There are TV adds on this that must beheeded where ever we may be because we never know whenand where it will strike nextldquoGod be Goodrdquo

It would also Be Good to bring God into this equation of prepa-ration

When everything that human beings and their machinery fail todeliver and there is no one and nothing else to place our hope onldquoGod Be Goodrdquo

Faith is being sure of what we hope for and being certain of whatwe do not see In Whom or in What in the world can we be as-sured of such Hope and be ascertain of any good at all beyondthe eye witness of disaster or even beyond death ldquoGod BeGoodrdquoGod is GoodSo what good is God in tragedy It is well to say God is goodwhen things a going well but in tragedies is God Good therealso

The Bible is full of stories of people who experienced miracu-lous acts of God in changing their personal local and nationalsituations in times of tragedies Daniel in the Lionrsquos den Danieland his friends thrown in the fire Joseph saving Egypt fromfamine Peter and John freed from prison Christians in historyand I am sure many Christians today would testify to God com-ing through in miraculous ways to heal to provide to deliverand to remedy their perilous situations

But what about when God does not change the situation AgainPaul Peter and John in the New Testament dying in prison orexecuted for their faith the early Christians fed to lions and
