    Linking Hands Inc

Hello to you all in and around Maunga-turoto, linking hands have some excit-ing news to share with you so withoutmuch ado let me tell you..We have bought a new (actually 2ndhand) people mover vehicle; its a Toy-ota estima 8 seater year 2000. The

vehicle is gold and its just beautiful,we think its like sitting in an aircraft butmuch better seats. The air-conditioningis wonderful and the engine is so quiet. One of our drivers went to a lot of trou-ble and time to find this lovely car andalso negotiated a great price. I wontmention his name as he would be em-

barrassed but I just want to tell you thisand make you aware of the commit-ment and love our volunteers put intolinking hands to make it the kind ofservice it is. So good on you team forkeeping us a nice friendly reliable ser-vice.This was paid for by the donations wehave been receiving from the commu-nity for transporting clients that give adonation and also local communitygroups that have supported us overthe last 2 years. So really this car

belongs to all of you and is there foryour needs when you have a medicalappointment. We are also now prepared to take youto other appointments such as WINZ,ACC, and IRD.We will not take you to court or toattend PD.The other news is we have taken overthe entire building where we are inHurndall St, plus we have added an-other computer to the internet serviceand .we also have coffee available if

you want one while you browse theinternet or check you emails or what-ever you are doingisnt that great, nolonger will you have to queue up to geton the computer.plus we still offersenior net computer training for free, maybe you should give that a go.More newsyes more news.We are now taking a group to Weightwatchers at Waipu every Thursdaymorning. We have negotiated a slightlylower rate for our people plus we aregiving you a small subsidy which

makes it more affordable. We transport

you over there and we bring you backfreewhat do you think of that?We still take people to Aqua Aerobicstwice weekly and at present we arenearly full, we have to limit the num-bers as we are funded for this and canonly pay for so many. You can ofcourse go along under your own steam

but its fun to go with the group. Sev-eral of our long term aerobics peopleare having great results, one of whomhas been able to give up her walkerand walk with just a stick now. Thiskind of exercise is doing wonderfulthings to old bones and joint problems.

One more bit of big newsWehave set up a sub agency at Man-gawhai and at present are looking forvolunteers over there. We are takingon board a lovely couple who are keen

to work with us and can house the oldToyota Hiace health Shuttle over thereand run it in and around Mangawhai,Langs, Waipu, and Bream bay. We willalso pick up clients and return thembetween all the above places and re-turn hospital patients home...Mangawhai phone 09 4314121Maungaturoto phone 09 4318969

Probably the most important thing foryou is that we also now go to Ruawai

and Waipu, so remember to call andbook with us if you need to go to eitherof these Doctors.

Well thats about it for nowphew, enough I hear you say. I look forwardto all our new things and hope that ourlovely new vehicle makes you allproud.

    My regards Maureen Davis.

After the meeting Colleen Jamiesongave a talk on the dangers to be awareof with using potting mix.

A picnic lunch was enjoyed on thedeck in the sun and afterwards we ad-mired Nairas new gardens.

Next month on 17 March at 12.30p.m. we are to meet at TrevorBrljevichs garden and then on to Pud-ding Face Farm in Whaka Street.

    GARDEN NOTES FOR MARCH 2010

March is a harvesting month for somevarieties of fruit as they mature, par-ticularly the main apple varieties.Golden Queen peaches are particu-larly susceptible to brown rot at theend of the season so spray till harvest.Citrus trees should receive an autumnfertilizer.

This is the important month to plantwinter vegetables such as onions, car-rots and cabbages etc.

Continue to disbud and feed late flow-ering chrysanthemums and dahlias.

Keep roses thriving with a deep water-ing about once a week and dead-head.

Bulbs can still be planted for springflowering.

    ARARUA PONY CLUB

Ararua Pony club held its annual OneDay Event on the 1st February. This isa major fundraiser for our Pony Cluband was a great success, even though

the drought managed to break on thatvery day, making it very wet anduncomfortable. However the competitors were cheer-ful and there were no serious mishapson the wet ground.

Rallies have started up again after theChristmas break and the riders aremaking full use of the cross countryjumps that have been left out after theODE.

Its good to see young riders progress-ing through the levels! Last year manywere entry level; now some havemoved up. We have a fantastic waterjump that gives our riders a bit of anedge when practising for ODEs aswater is often a real obstacle tohorses.

Riders can expect to sit relevantcertificates at the end of each season. The D+ certificate candidates will behaving their assessment soon.

We are also planning morecompetitions and a pony club camp, sothere is plenty to look forward to in thelast few months of pony club.

Anyone wanting to join pony clubring the secretary Beth Parker on4316850. Rallies are fortnightly on aTuesday starting at 4.30-6.30pm.The first three rallies are free.
