Last year we had almost 100% of parents and children attended their learning conference. This was a fantastic effort . At the Learning Conferences {teacher / child / parent(s)} we will be presenting to you the mid year interim student report on progress towards achieving the National Standards. Next Friday your child will be bringing home their student learning portfolio. The learning portfolio contains samples of the students’ work gathered throughout the year, along with self-assessment and teacher assessment linked to term 1 and 2 learning programmes. The learning conference is also a time to review individual student Personal Learning Plan (PLP) goals and set new learning goals for the remainder of this school year. Inside the student learning portfolio you will find some fun tasks that we would like you to complete before attending your learning conference: 1. On the teacher general comment page we ask that you write a parent comment to your child in recognition of their progress. 2. At the back of the portfolio we ask that you complete the celebration of learning page (it has pictures of balloons on it) and share it with your child. Please file the page back inside the portfolio when completed Please bring the student portfolio with you to the learning conference (as we will be referring to it during our discussion about your child’s learning journey). Please note that school will be finishing at 1:50pm on Tuesday 25 th June and Wednesday 26 th June. School buses will be departing school at 2pm. Note: School will be closed on Friday 28 th June for a teacher professional development day. Time to Nominate Outstanding Teachers and Leaders Our school has been invited to submit nominations for the ASG Teaching Awards and Cognition Education Leadership Awards.

Every two years parents, Boards of Trustees, parent associations, secondary student councils and community organisations can nominate the outstanding teachers and leaders in their school community who inspire learning, and give them a well –deserved pat on the back. This is the only independent national awards program where school parents / grandparents, parent associations, Boards of Trustees can nominate teachers and leaders who contribute excellence. Nominated teachers receive a congratulatory NEiTA Certificate of Nomination and become eligible for regional and national awards. It’s easy to nominate. Nominations can be made online, or forms can be downloaded, at www.neita.co.nz or call NEiTA for a form by phoning 09 308 0576.

PTA Post

Maungaturoto Primary School Pet Day & Gala – Sat 19th October

Maungaturoto Primary Schools Pet Day and Gala on Saturday 19th October 2013 and in order for this day to be a success we need support from every family at the Primary School. So far we have had a good response of items brought into the school but we need much more! Each month the PTA will be asking families to bring into the school an item for different raffles, activities and stalls at the Gala. For example in June each family is asked to bring in to the school one tin of some kind of food. Each month the PTA will place in the school newsletter what is coming up next month. Here is the list already;

May – an article of clothing (for 2nd hand clothing stall) and a packet food (eg a packet of coffee or a packet of cereal) Have you brought in something for May? If not it’s not too late!

June – A tin can of food

July – A bottle of food or drink (for raffle & bottle in a barrow stall) & a packet of lollies

August – A jar of food (home-made or store bought)

September – A packet food (eg a packet of coffee or a packet of cereal) & a packet of lollies

October – A bottle of food or drink (for raffle & bottle in a barrow stall) & an empty jar

Please note that the Gala is not until October so please check best before and expiry date- thank you! When bringing in these items please consider something you yourself would like to receive.

JUNIOR SPORTS CLUB NEWS Maungaturoto Netball Club News

Draw for this week:

TEAM VERSUS COURT TIME

1 Matakana 1 2 10.40

2 Mangawhai 8 4 9.50

3 Mangawhai 9 5 10.40

Please remember girls need to be at the courts 30min before game time. Also, they must have trimmed nails, hair tied back and wear no necklaces or bracelets. White socks and black knickers must be worn for every game. To receive cancellation notices please text code 13625 to 3080, otherwise please else let coaches know so that they can contact you if games are cancelled.

Team 1 News from Susan Team one played Otamatea 8 on Saturday and lost 9-14. The girls played hard but it wasn't our day against a strong opposition. Player of the day was Emma Huband who showed great skills and versatility on attack and defence.

Team 3 News from Mrs Steiner This week, Team 3 played a great game against Wellsford. The final score was 6-2 to Wellsford. Our girls went on court with a great “can-do” attitude and played hard and fair. Player of the day went to Hinerupe. Hinerupe got a number of intercepts, was always available to receive the ball from her team, and made sure she ran into space. Team 3 are trying harder each week, and with more and more court time, will continue to improve. Good on you girls!
