Dear Brother Knights, Can lightning strike twice? It seems so. Thank you for the confidence to allow me to serve as Grand

Knight for a second year. Our achievements this past fraternal year have been published and they are in the history books. Again, thank you all for your good work. Now it’s time to look forward.

Nothing happens in a vacuum. It takes each and every one of us contributing to some degree, no matter how small, to achieve our goals of Charity, Unity and Fraternity. Along with working the concession stand at the Amway , we raise money again with our annual Keep Christ in Christmas program to support our many beneficiaries. The growing successful golf tournament and bowlathon are planned this year as well.

As previously discussed the recording and reporting of our activities and gifts to the needy, the church and our seminarians, to mention a few, are required for supreme to maintain that all im-portant 501(c)(3) status. More importantly it needs your time, energy and yes in some cases money for us to maintain that valuable status as pillar of the church. Please report any and all activities to Dick Crowe regardless how small, either as your own activity or part of committee. There are forms but the simplest of notes will give him a reference to write up and complete this important task

Note that our business meetings will now be held on the first Tuesday of the month starting at 7:00 P.M. We will do our best to keep the meetings in about the 1 hour time frame. We will ask one brother a month to be responsible to put on a little feed after the meeting. Those participating will be reimbursed and remember that little donation box on the table does not generate money for the food and drink on its own.

The third Tuesday of the month will be our social night. There will be an occasional announced program of educational, faith based or of a fun nature. On July 21st our lecturer, Mike Wolfe is planning an outing in Sanford to watch baseball collegiate all-star players. Knights, family, children friends and prospects are invited. It’s relatively inexpensive and fun.

In November we hold the annual memorial Mass and during the Christmas and Lenten seasons Corporate Communion Masses and Brunches will be scheduled.

Carve out the time to spend time with us at meetings, projects and social activities to the extent your schedule allows. Wear you KofC pin at all times as it says, “Who you are and upon what your believe system is based.”

There is much more so just watch the monthly newsletter and webpage for updates. Vivat Jesus,

Carmine M. Bravo

Sir Knights, On June 7, in celebration of Flag Day, (actual day June

14) the Annunciation Boy Scouts and the Knights of St. Patrick Assembly held a joint fund raiser Pancake Break-fast in the St. Gabriel Center after the 8 AM and 10 AM Masses. To honor the flag of the U. S. the scouts did their Flag Ceremony. The event was considered a success due to the efforts of Larry Stempkowski and the scouts and SK Carmine Bravo who conceived the event.

Plans are in the works for future breakfasts so follow on this newsletter, the church bulletin, and or the Annunciation web site.

Our next opportunity to fly the flag is Independence Day, July 4th. If you want to retire your worn out old flag and replace it with a quality new one for $25 contact SK Rich Gesell, 407-491-7326, [email protected].

Congratulations to our new slate of officers who were installed on June 26th and are assuming their offices on July 1st for the 2015-2016 fraternal year (see front page):

I am extremely grateful to the officers and members of this Assembly for their support and consideration during this past fraternal year. I trust I can continue to serve as Admiral. Thank you.

Vivat Jesus.

The July Meeting Attendance Pot Contains $70.00

The council, a few months ago, in an effort to encourage member attendance at its monthly business meetings puts $10.00 into a pot at each business meeting to promote attendance at our meetings. At each business meeting, a drawing is made with the names of all members to determine the winner of the pot.

If the winner is not present, an additional $10.00 is added to the pot for the next meeting.

You could be the next winner!

But, you need to be present to win the pot!

Chaplain’s Corner

July 2015 Dear Knights and Ladies, As we come together as a nation to celebrate American Independence Day, we give praise and thanks to

God. Our freedom was purchased at a great price, as courageous men and women pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor.

History records that most of the signers of the Declaration of Independence lost their lives and their fortunes, but not their honor.

Perhaps it is time to renew our own sense of committed service as Catholic Americans. As Knights and Ladies, we are beacons of hope to many in the community who are less fortunate that ourselves. Our generosity with our time, talents, and treasure, in so many service projects, makes a difference.

Our God expects the best that we have to give, and the best gift of all is the Faith that we model for others. Freedom and Liberty are God's gifts. The former represents potential for doing God's work. The latter is a grace that causes us to desire "the good" and pursue it.

Our Lord Jesus Christ offered His life, His liberty, and His sacred honor for us on the cross. He set a standard of self-giving that has never been matched. As we enjoy our freedoms, and commemorate the sacrifices that made them possible, we give thanks for the ultimate sacrifice that made our lives purposeful. The old Baltimore Catechism reminds us that we were made in God's image for three purposes: to know,

to love, and to serve Him, such that we might be happy with Him in heaven for all eternity. As practical Catholics, we must pray for our nation, and for the faith conversion of those who live contrary

to the Gospel. We must pray for a new birth of Liberty, such that our people will desire and pursue the "Good" and safeguard the rights of the helpless.

Your priests continue to advocate you before God in our masses and prayers. On behalf of all our parish priests, we thank you for remembrance in your prayers. Know that together we are making a difference.

Sincerely In Christ,

Father Steve Baumann

Vatican News A delegation from Philadelphia, Pa. is in Rome this week, making final preparations for the upcoming World

Meeting of Families, scheduled to take place in the US city at the end of this coming September. Led by

Philadelphia’s archbishop, Charles J. Chaput, OFM Cap., and the mayor of Philadelphia, Michael Nutter, the

delegation is working with the Pontifical Council for the Family and other Vatican offices to finalize details of

what will be Pope Francis’ first visit to the United States since his election.

Mayor Nutter told Vatican Radio his city and its people are ready to welcome Pope Francis.

“It is a tremendous honor to be the host city for the World Meeting of Families,” said Nutter, “and of course,

for the visit of Pope Francis.” The mayor went on to say, “Our plans are basically in place: to anticipate over a

million people, perhaps as many as 1.5 million,” adding, “the logistics, the security, the transportation,” are all

going very well. “We’re very excited,” said Mayor Nutter, “we’re ready.”

Knights of Columbus Insurance

Long-Term Care Plans Offer Peace of Mind Since its addition to the Order’s product

portfolio in 2000, long-term care (LTC) insurance has provided the Knights of Columbus

with an excellent opportunity to further serve members and their families.

And, for our long-term care policy holders in the United States, there’s an added

bonus. It’s called “Provider Pathway,” a program offering access to a network of long-

term care providers at discounted rates. The network includes discounts on products,

such as hearing aids, diabetic supplies, personal emergency response systems, and

durable medical equipment, as well as skilled nursing facilities, assisted living, and adult

day care. All providers are fully credentialed and meet state licensing requirements.

Eligibility for participation in this program is open to Knights of Columbus long-term

care insurance policyholders, their spouses, dependent children, parents and parents-in-

law.

If you haven’t yet spoken with me about long-term care insurance, you owe it to

yourself to do so. There are a few decisions to make in choosing a “plan” — a compre-

hensive plan that covers care whether you’re at home or in a facility, or one that covers

facility only; daily benefit amounts and benefit durations (how much and how long it will

last); and the length of the elimination period (waiting period) before benefits kick-in.

Having a professionally trained agent ― and a brother Knight you can trust ― to help

guide you through the process is yet another valuable benefit that comes with your

membership. Take advantage of it; contact me today.

Dear Brother Knight:

Please join me in congratulating Brother Knight Bill Hyer, our council's newest 3rd Degree member, who completed his 3rd Degree Exemplification Saturday, June 13th, at Our Lady of Hope Council 8086 in Port Orange, Florida.

Thank you to Brother Knight Ralph Ameduri for supporting Bill by attending the exemplification as well. (Ralph has recently moved to Port Orange, and will soon be transferring his membership to Our Lady of Hope Council.)

Ralph Ameduri on the left, and Bob Nettles on the right of Bill Hyer.

Brother Knights, We owe a great debt to Brother Knight Bob Nettles. He served as the Charter Grand Knight,

Financial Field Representative, and was an active liaison to many other councils.

He has been our membership director for many years and many of you owe your membership to

Bob's involvement and it's easy to say he was our most active gate keeper to membership.

We have started a perpetual Grand Knight's, Bob Nettles Award to be given annually for service to the council over and above the call of duty. Bob was the initial recipient at last night's

installation dinner.

There comes a day and this is it. Bob has stepped down as membership director. This is your opportunity to step up and be counted. We need someone who is willing to serve in that capacity.

Bob will train and prepare.

Please respond so we can set up a time to meet and discuss the role and if more than one steps

up we'll discuss to make the choice.

Membership Director’s Report

July, 2015

Our council’s membership quota for the 2014 - 2015 fraternal year for the Father McGivney Award was 17 net additions for the period of July 1, 2014 to June 30, 2015.

Our council’s membership statement from Supreme as of 6-1-15 reports that our council has 21 additions and no deductions for a net increase of 21 members, which represents 123% of our quota.

In June we have had 3 additional candidates take their 1st Degree. They are Chris Manning, and David Attard proposed by Dennis Franko, and Shane Burnsed proposed by Carmine Bravo. This brings our net increase to 24 members or 141% of our quota. We have qualified for the Father McGivney Award.

We have two candidates whose applications for membership have been approved by the council and are waiting to take their 1st Degree Exemplification. They are Bud Lewis, and Thomas Coppola.

Invite your sons who are turning 18 to join our council as Knights.

Make it a priority to remain visible in our parish and community when conducting various charitable service projects and council activities. This not only gains support for our initiatives, but also keeps our current members engaged and attracts potential Knights.

Consider a Volunteer Role at the 2015 World Meeting of Families in Philadelphia

6/3/2015

The World Meeting of Families and Pope Francis’ visit to Philadelphia (09, 22-27, 2015) is expected to attract well in excess of a million people to the City of Brotherly Love. Archbishop Chaput and the Philadelphia archdiocese need volunteers to welcome and assist the many visitors and support the scheduled events.

In a spirit of service, Knights and their family members are invited to volunteer during the course of the six days of activities. Opportunities are available for a variety of tasks and events; multilingual volunteers are requested in particular to assist with translation.

All volunteers must be 18 or older, reside in the United States and apply through the World Meeting of Families website. For security purposes, all applicants will be subject to background screenings.

A Vatican-sponsored international gathering and visit from the Holy Father are not only rare, but a blessing for the United States and the Greater Philadelphia area. Please consider the significance of this occasion and the unique opportunities it offers to participate in such important events.

Please volunteer today.

July 2015

As we look back at how the abortion business has progressed, or should I say egressed, there are several unknown facts you should know. STOPP, which is part of the American Life League, has been tracking Planned Parenthood’s business for the past 65 years.

Below are a few examples from STOPP’s historical analysis:

While Planned Parenthood (PP) is shutting down facilities across the nation and building “mega-abortion centers” to replace some facilities its customer base is shrinking. That’s right. It has fewer customers.

Note that these “mega-abortion centers” are built with your tax dollars. With the drop in customers comes a drop in services.

Since 2009 prenatal services have dropped by 54%, PAP tests have dropped 58% and breast exams have decreased 41%. In 1994 PP reported its largest number of adoption referrals at over 11,000. In 2013 it referred only 1,880 women for adoption services, an 82% decrease in adoption referrals. You should know that there are thousands of capable young couples who would like to adopt these children.

In 2013, for each adoption referral PP aborted 174 babies!! In 2013 PP killed almost 328,000 babies. That’s slightly up from the prior year but it is still lower than three of the four most recent years. However, it is a whopping 34% increase since 2004.

PP now commits one-third of all abortions in the US. Twenty years ago it owned 9% of the abortion market. Today it owns 30%. Abortion made PP $170 million richer in 2013. PP has killed 6.6 million children since 1970. That’s an amount equal to the population of Los Angeles and Chicago (our nation’s second and third most populous cities) combined.

In spite of the above PP’s customer base continues to dwindle. It now has the lowest number of customers since 2001. One of the reasons for this decline is the work that is done by pregnancy centers which now outnumber both PP’s facilities and all other abortion facilities in the country combined.

So, the next time you are asked to donate to a pregnancy center remember the good works done by these volunteer organizations.

GOD AND ST. FRANCIS DISCUSSING LAWNS

GOD: Francis, you know all about gardens and nature. What in the world is going on down there? What happened to the dandelions, violets, thistle and stuff I started eons ago? I had a perfect, no-maintenance garden plan. Those plants grow in any type of soil, withstand drought and multiply with abandon. The nectar from the long lasting blos-soms attracts butterflies, honey bees and flocks of songbirds. I expected to see a vast garden of colors by now. But all

I see are these green rectangles.

ST. FRANCIS: It's the tribes that settled there, Lord. The Suburbanites. They started calling your flowers "weeds" and

went to great lengths to kill them and replace them with grass.

GOD: Grass? But it's so boring. It's not colorful. It doesn't attract butterflies, birds and bees, only grubs and sod

worms. It's temperamental with temperatures. Do these Suburbanites really want all that grass growing there?

ST. FRANCIS: Apparently so, Lord. They go to great pains to grow it and keep it green. They begin each spring by

fertilizing grass and poisoning any other plant that crops up in the lawn.

GOD: The spring rains and warm weather probably make grass grow really fast. That must make the Suburbanites

happy.

ST. FRANCIS: Apparently not, Lord. As soon as it grows a little, they cut it-sometimes twice a week.

GOD: They cut it? Do they then bale it like hay?

ST. FRANCIS: Not exactly, Lord. Most of them rake it up and put it in bags.

GOD: They bag it? Why? Is it a cash crop? Do they sell it?

ST. FRANCIS: No Sir. Just the opposite. They pay to throw it away.

GOD: Now let me get this straight. They fertilize grass so it will grow. And when it does grow, they cut it off and pay to

throw it away?

ST. FRANCIS: Yes, Sir.

GOD: These Suburbanites must be relieved in the summer when we cut back on the rain and turn up the heat. That

surely slows the growth and saves them a lot of work.

ST. FRANCIS: You aren't going to believe this Lord. When the grass stops growing so fast, they drag out hoses and

pay more money to water it so they can continue to mow it and pay to get rid of it.

GOD: What nonsense. At least they kept some of the trees. That was a sheer stroke of genius, if I do say so myself. The trees grow leaves in the spring to provide beauty and shade in the summer. In the autumn they fall to the ground and form a natural blanket to keep moisture in the soil and protect the trees and bushes. Plus, as they rot, the leaves

form compost to enhance the soil. It's a natural circle of life.

ST. FRANCIS: You better sit down, Lord. The Suburbanites have drawn a new circle. As soon as the leaves fall, they

rake them into great piles and pay to have them hauled away.

GOD: No. What do they do to protect the shrub and tree roots in the winter and to keep the soil moist and loose?

ST. FRANCIS: After throwing away the leaves, they go out and buy something which they call mulch. They haul it

home and spread it around in place of the leaves.

GOD: And where do they get this mulch?

ST. FRANCIS: They cut down trees and grind them up to make the mulch.

GOD: Enough. I don't want to think about this anymore. St. Catherine, you're in charge of the arts. What movie have

they scheduled for us tonight?"

ST. CATHERINE: "Dumb and Dumber", Lord. It's a really stupid movie about.....

GOD: Never mind, I think I just heard the whole story from St. Francis.
