Brother Knights.

My earliest memories of childhood include Christmas. The beauty of Christmas, which we as

Christian Catholics celebrate the birth of the Savior, is, no matter ones faith background, no

matter how one refers to the holiday or the season, a special time of joy, happiness and good will.

People find themselves doing things for others as they are overwhelmed by the spirit of the Lord.

How many of us spend much of our waking hours deliberating on the special gift for that special

person in our lives. No question, it is the happiest time of the year.We had a very successful Me-

Chaplain’s

Corner

Dear Knights and Ladies,

December has arrived, and with it our prayerful celebration of Advent and Christmas. It is a month

with two themes: "preparation" and "reflection." We are reminded to prepare our hearts for the Lord's com-

ing – not only liturgically at Christmas, but also for us individually at the end of our days. In the midst of great

joy, our Knight's motto "Memento Mori" keeps us focused on the gift of time. We prepare for the Lord's com-

ing, not knowing the length of time that has been given to us. Those who are patients of Hospice, for example,

would remind us to "make each day count."

The subdued colors of the liturgical season suggest anticipation, much as the Blessed Mother anticipated

the birth of her son. And yet, with God there is always encouragement and hope, as the rose-colored candle on

the third Sunday will remind us.

Advent is a season of quiet joy, to which we add the second theme of "reflection." Yes, December has

arrived, and with it a new liturgical year – Cycle B for the Sunday readings, and Year 1 (beginning in mid-

January) for the weekday readings. A prayerful practice of reflection on the mass scriptures will provide in-

sights and direction for our lives. The Lord speaks to us through the scriptures in a special way, if we take the

time to present ourselves to Him. The prayerful reading of the Bible remains an indulgenced (partial) activity,

along with the prayer of the Holy Rosary. On Tuesday evening the 2nd, we will have a “living Rosary” in the

church, followed by a short concert of Marian music to which all are invited.

When we "reflect" upon another year of our lives, we might ask how we have grown in our faith and in

our relationships. Just as the infant Jesus grew to adulthood, so must our Faith. And with all growth, there is

self-discipline and commitment. How have we grown this past year? How will we grow in the new liturgical

year?

Here at Annunciation, we will celebrate the Solemnity of the Immaculate

Conception of Our Lady on Monday, December 8th, a Holy Day of Obligation this year. On Thursday, Decem-

ber 18th, we will offer our two Advent Penance Services at 10:00 a.m. and at 7:00 p.m., in addition to our regu-

lar confessions at 3:00 on Saturday afternoons, and on Wednesday evenings, from 7:00 until 8:00 in the church

chapel. What better way to "prepare" for the Lord's coming and to reflect upon its meaning in our lives than

with the gift of a good sacramental confession?

Prayer, study, and reflection are traditional spiritual disciplines that yield abundant graces. As we prepare for

the Solemnity of Christmas, we should pray for a greater openness to the Holy Spirit, so that we can say “Yes”

enthusiastically to God's call. May the blessings of Advent and Christmas be yours in abundance!

The VANTAGE Annuity Advantage

Concerned about a comfortable and worry-free retirement? In addition to our traditional Flexible Premium Annuity, the Knights of Columbus offers the VANTAGE Single Premium Deferred Annuity, and it may be part of the answer for you. With a single deposit of $25,000 or more, the VANTAGE allows you to lock-in a guaranteed interest rate for five years. In addition, there are sev-eral attractive renewal options once the five-year period has expired, in-cluding keeping the funds in another VANTAGE Annuity, placing them in a more traditional, flexible premium annuity where the interest rate can be changed on a quarterly or more frequent basis, or — in the 30-day period prior to the fifth and tenth policy anniversaries — withdrawing the funds without a surrender charge. The VANTAGE Annuity, along with our Flexible Premium Annuity, pro-vides the guarantees that Knights of Columbus members have come to expect — guaranteed interest rates along with absolute safety of principal. In addition, we can easily accommodate rollovers and transfers free of charge. I will be happy to meet with you at your convenience — in your home — to discuss with you in detail how the Knights of Columbus can help you to secure the comfortable, worry-free retirement you want and deserve. Paul and Mary Guyet Pro-Life Couple Council 12761

It’s December again.

What a wonderful month. We prepare ourselves during Advent for the birth of the greatest

person to be born, Jesus Christ.

Do you think God the Father is pro-life? Obviously, He is. He could have entered this world

as a full grown person but He did not. He was conceived in the womb of His mother. He spent

nine months growing in her womb. He came into the world as a baby. He was nurtured by His

mother and father just as all of us are. Like us he grew into a young man and matured into an

adult. He came to rescue us from our sinfulness. December is a time of anticipation and exul-

tation.

Thank you God the Father, Son and Holy Ghost for being pro-life. Amen.

Vivat Jesus,

Paul and Mary Guyet

The December Meeting Attendance Pot Contains $10.00

The council a few months ago in an effort to encourage member attendance at its monthly busi-ness meetings puts $10.00 into a pot at each business meeting to promote attendance at our meetings. At each business meeting, a drawing is made with the names of all members to deter-mine the winner of the pot. If the winner is not present, an additional $10.00 is added to the pot for the next meeting. The winner of the November drawing was Phil Henderson who won $90.00

You could be the next winner! But, you need to be present to win the pot! Hope to see you at our October 6th. business meeting

Semi Annual Membership Recruitment Blitz

We conducted a recruitment drive the weekend of November 8 & 9th in an effort to canvass the entire parish on one

weekend, gathering the names of prospective new members to follow-up with.

We advertised the drive for 3 weeks in the parish bulletins leading up to the drive weekend. We arranged for the

pastor to make a brief announcement after each Mass, explaining the Kof C, encouraging men to consider joining the

Order.

We posted Knights at every door to the church after all of the Masses to hand out prospect kits, which included pro-

spect cards, and several flyers. We set up tables at both the north and south side of the church manned by Knights to

answer any questions parishioners might have.

I would like to thank the 22 brother Knights who helped with our membership drive:

Paul Guyet, Carmine Bravo, Greg Tencer, Luke Williams, John Lampe, Alberto Castro, Vincent Davis

November Prayers & Messages

FOR THE GOOD OF THE ORDER

Dear Jesus, Divine Physician and Healer of the sick, we turn to you in this time of illness. O dearest comforter of

the troubled, alleviate our worry and sorrow with your gentle love, and grant us the grace and strength to accept

this burden. Dear God, we place our worries in your hands. We place our sick under your care and humbly ask that

you restore your servants to health again. Above all, grant us the grace to acknowledge your will and know that

whatever you do, you do for the love of us. Amen.

Name Reason Name Reason

Sir Knight Dennis Franko is chairman of the council’s Fraternalism Committee. This committee among other things writes and sends out Knights of Columbus "Get Well" cards, or "Sympathy" cards, to Brothers and Families, who are going through the heal-ing process of a physical or emotional ailment, or the loss of a loved one, and is in need of our thoughts and prayerful support. Dennis always adds a short personal, handwritten note and signs the card from ‘The Knights of Annunciation Council’. He uses his return address so that he is alerted if it can't be delivered, but he never signs the card personally or shows any indication of whom sent it. That way the card will always be recognized as from all of us. If you would like Dennis to send out a card, please notify him via

email: [email protected] or by phone: 407-884-0482.
