Knightly Notes Page 1 NOTES FROM THE GRAND KNIGHT Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ: The end of September is among us, the children are back in school and religion classes are seemingly everywhere at St. Joseph’s. Hallelujah! This has always been a time for me to reflect on family. In fact, one of my announced goals for the year is to secure more family endeavors and I’ve encouraged our Knights and the Ladies Auxiliary to join me in this effort. Family tradition has always meant so very much to me. In fact, I recently met the most amazing family. JoAnn Johnson was the winner of the Trager smoker grill raffled at the Knight’s Country and Western BBQ. (She only purchased a single $5 ticket and won an $800 grill!!) I had the pleasure of awarding her the grill following last Sunday’s 10 AM mass. (See picture.) Ms. Johnson brought her four sons along and they were among the nicest and most appreciative people I’ve ever met. (There is hope for humanity!) Congrats to the Johnson family. (mmmmm, I can taste those BBQ ribs right now!) And thank you to the Presswood-Heese Team Realtors, Berkshire Hathaway for their kind donation of the Traeger grill. I would also like to thank everyone else who donated gifts, time, money, etc. Chuck and Danny you’re the best! The event was a success! I’m extremely grateful to the Ladies Auxiliary for their setup efforts, ticket sales, personalities, etc. (You get the picture.) I’ve said it before, they did all the hard work, all we did was provide the muscle. My grandsons even assisted in setting up & tearing down. (How’s that for family?) As soon as I receive the photos from our on-site photographer (another thanks), they will be posted on our Unkight site. One final commercial, our Council is hosting a Columbus Day dinner/dance on Oct. 12 at the Elks Lodge on West Charleston Blvd. beginning at 6 PM with a cash bar, followed by dinner and dancing. Tickets are $45/person and we have a limit of 250 people. Our state officers will be attending and all local Councils are invited. Buy now or lose out. (Check online at Eventbrite for ticket info.) A final thought: We recently lost a very good friend, Juliet Fritz, mother of Brother Joey Fritz, (who insisted I rejoin the Knights). Life is short, eternity lasts a long, long time. Strive for the later. Bless you all and keep the faith! GRANDPARENTS A grandfather was telling his little granddaughter what his own childhood was like. "We used to skate outside on a pond. I had a swing made from a tire; it hung from a tree in our front yard. We rode our pony. We picked wild raspberries in the woods." The little girl was wide-eyed, taking this all in. At last she said, "I sure wish I'd gotten to know you sooner!"

Council at a Glance

Notes from your Financial Secretary

Gold Star Family Day is September 29, 2019

We ask that you light a luminary on Gold Star Family Day.

Please pledge your support of this special day and encourage your community to light luminaries, honoring

members of all branches of the service, including those who have lost the fight after struggling to reintegrate

into civilian life. Our goal is to have as many communities as possible in each state support the families of our

fallen heroes. There is power in numbers and together we can show Gold Star families that we are a grateful

nation.

"We are so grateful for the amazing event you planned for Gold Star Family Day. The loss and pain will always

be there, but to be reminded of why our fallen heroes sacrificed so much, is very meaningful.

Good of the Order PLEASE HELP THE COUNCIL FILL THIS POSITION!

As we have advised in previous newsletters Brother Peter Wagonleitner has resigned as Fraternal Chairman. The Council is asking someone to volunteer to fill this rewarding position. It is a rewarding position because by prayer you are helping our Brother Knights and families in need. Continue to pray for a speedy recovery for Brother Tony Dequipa who is suffering from Leukemia as well as his wife Nettie and their family. Also continue praying for recovery and return to full health for Tony (Karen) Ruivivar and Nadine (Victor) Stango. Let us offer prayers for the repose of the soul of Juliet Fritz, mother of Brother Joey Fritz, who passed away September 22nd.

Online Rosary: comepraytherosary.org If you or someone you know would like to be on the prayer list or if you know of someone who should be removed from previous prayer lists, please contact the editors of this newsletter until

a new Fraternal Chair has volunteered. Tony Donofrio, [email protected]

COUNCIL PANCAKE BREAKFAST

Summer is past and the Council resumed its traditional Pancake Breakfast this weekend. All Knights are encouraged to attend the Breakfast to support the Charities which are funded by this event. The Breakfast is the primary source of funding for our Seminarian donations from the Council. The Breakfast is the last Sunday of the month from now until May. Invite your friends at Mass to attend with you. The guys are always inviting fellow Knights to help with preparation, serving and service at the Breakfast. This is your chance to begin being a real part of Council and parish life.

Council recognition

Knight of the Month - September 2019

Ray Foster

Our Immediate Past Grand Knight, Ray Foster, is our September Knight of the Month. He has provided much insight to the leadership of this Council. Most recently, he was a great help at the

Country and Western BBQ. He is serving now as our District Deputy and also serves as Lead Usher for the 1000 mass.

Thanks for all you do, Ray!

Family of the Month - September 2019

Gary and Kirby Presswood

The Family of the Month for September 2019 is our Grand Knight Gary and his wife Kirby. They are being honored for all they did for the County and Western BBQ. Their family

foundation donated the Trager grill that was raffled off at the dinner. This helped raise a lot of money for the Council. The Council wanted to show their appreciation by

appointing them Family of the Month. Thank you Gary and Kirby!

FROM THE EDITOR’S DESK

I would like to congratulate and welcome to assembly 2820 the eleven Knights who made their 4th Degree on Saturday, September 21, 2019. I would especially like to welcome to the Assembly the four new Sir Knights from council 10442. They are SK Fr Mark Ameh, SK Fr Roy Kurian, SK Jose Acierto and SK Jorge Disuanco.

Two of the new Sir Knights are our own St. Joseph, Husband of Mary priests including our pastor, Fr. Mark Ameh. I would ask that the other two Sir Knights from Council 10442 become active not only in the Council but also in the Assembly 2820. Again Congratulations and welcome to the Patriotic Degree of our order.

COUNTRY AND WESTERN BARBECUE Judging by all of the smiling faces on the attendees at THE COUNTRY AND WESTERN BARBEQUE it was a success. It was well attended and every one had a great time with the karaoke event. At the time of this publication we did not have the final results on the financial figures. However I understand that we did well and our designated charities will benefit from all of the hard work that goes into these events. We would like to thank those who helped make this event successful. Tony Donofrio, PGK Editor

News from the Ladies Auxiliary

Ladies Auxiliary Knights of Columbus St. Joseph, Husband of Mary Council #10442

Dear Sisters,

September has been a busy month for our auxiliary. We had an officers meeting on September 4 and our monthly meeting on September 5. The Country and Western BBQ on September 21 had great food, dancing and “interesting” karaoke. And, of course, we have our Religious Goods sales on September 28 and 29. On a sadder note, we lost a beloved original member of the auxiliary, Juliet Fitz, on September 22.

The following is a poem I received on Facebook. I hope you feel it as much as I did. I remember the saying from childhood “Find a Penny, pick it up. All day long, you’ll have good luck.” Here’s another take on finding a penny.

Pennies -Author Unknown-

When an angel misses you, they toss a penny down. Sometimes to cheer you up, to make a smile out of your frown.

So don’t pass by that penny when you’re feeling blue. It may be a penny from heaven that an angel tossed to you.

Upcoming Schedule

Thursday, October 5 Monthly Auxiliary Meeting 7:30 pm. Saturday, October 12 Columbus Day Dinner 5:00 pm. Saturday, October26 Religious Goods Set Up/Sales After Mass Sunday, October 27 Religious Goods Sales/Pack Up 8-10-12-2 Thursday, November 7 Monthly Auxiliary Meeting 7:30 pm Saturday, Nov 9 & 10 Bundt Cake Sales After All Masses.

Funnies of the Month. “Great Truths About Growing Old”. (Author Unknown)

Growing old is mandatory; growing up is optional. When you fall down, you wonder what else you can do while you’re down there. It’s frustrating when you know all the answers but nobody bothers to ask you the

questions. Wisdom comes with age, but sometimes age comes alone.

Jackie Katrosits, President 702-278-2786
