Congratulations, Graduates!

The St. Barbara Parish commu-nity would like to congratulate the Kindergarten class of 2018, who graduated on Tuesday,

June 5th, at 6:30 p.m. We wish you good luck as you begin elementary school.

Notes from the Carnival Corner:

Well, it has FINALLY arrived ̶ it’s CARNIVAL TIME. As you may see, we already have some rides in our parking lot and, Sunday night into Mon-day morning, more rides will start to arrive. Please remember that Throop St will be closed to all traffic from June 10th-June 18th. Congratulations to our Last Early Bird Winners: Mr. & Mrs. Edward Glabicki. As of 6/01/18 we have $3,150 in returns for the Grand Raffle and $1,455 in Split-the-Pot. If you haven’t turned in your raffle tickets or split-the-pot tickets, please take the time to turn them in either at the rectory or at the carnival. This will help us reach our goal of $10,000. Mega Passes are now also available at the rectory for the Presale cost of $50.00; they will be $60.00 if pur-chased at the carnival. These can now also be pur-chased online at http://deholland615.wix.com/st-barbara-carnival under the store tab. We would like to thank our future 8th Graders, Mr. Groark, and Ms. Krok, who helped unload all the soda and other supplies for the carnival last Friday. Please pray for good weather to help make our annu-al carnival a success for St. Barbara Parish. Hope to see you all there!

FROM THE DESK OF THE PASTOR

Dear Brothers and Sisters, Sometimes, in order to experience God’s love we must endure many difficulties and trials. Sometimes He allows us to be tempted to sin in or-der to test our love for and faithfulness to Him. Why does God allow us to experience many diffi-culties and trials? Because He Himself experienced many difficulties and trials. In order to show us His Love—a Love that is given for free, without preference and without measure—God became Man in Jesus Christ. He also suffered and died for us. Each of us who is baptized is called to follow Jesus’ example. When Jesus died for us, He proved His Love for us. Well, if we are to follow in Jesus’ footsteps, then this means that we must first fall in love with Him, and then die for Love of Him. We, too, must prove our love for Him, just as He proved His Love for us. This is what sanc-tity is all about. On this Sunday, I would like to invite you to contem-plate God’s Love. I would like to invite you to ask yourselves whether or not you have truly fallen in love with God and if you are ready to prove Your love for Him, even by giving your life for Him. If you discover that you are not ready—that you have not fallen in love with God, then do not be afraid. Simply ask Him for the grace to discover how He has fallen in Love with you. When you truly discover how He has fallen in Love with you, then You will be ready to give Your life out of love for Him and for others. * * * * This week, we will hold the biggest fundraiser of the year — our parish Carnival. I hope you have re-turned your raffle tickets and split-the-pot tickets to help make this carnival a success. As you can see from the picture, carnival rides have begun arriving. Please be careful in our parking lot. I hope to see you at the Carnival. Remember to invite your fami-lies and friends. Let us pray for good weather and God’s blessings on this fun-filled weekend. The Saturday evening Mass will be a Polka Mass at 4:00 pm outside in the back parking lot. There will be no 5:00 pm Mass. The 11:30 am Mass will also be an outside Mass with music by the Holy Name Men’s Choir. Please stay after Mass for a concert by our Men’s Choir. Fr. Arthur

The following jokes come from Joel Osteen: A young man was talking to God. He said, “God, what does a million years

feel like to you?” God replied, “It feels like a sec-ond.” The young man then asked, “God, what does a million dollars feel like to you?” God said, “It feels like a penny. The young man thought this over and said, “God, will you give me a penny?” God replied, “Give me a second.” An elderly minister was on the point of death. He sent for an IRS agent and a lawyer — one on each side of his bed. The lawyer said, “Sir, why did you decide we should be with you at your death?” The minister gathered his strength and said, “Jesus died between two sinners. That’s the way I want to go.” God was at the gates of heaven, welcoming people. A man in colorful clothes came to the gates and said, “Joe Cohen, taxi cab driver, New York City.” God gave him a gold staff and a rich silk robe and said, “Welcome to heaven”. A priest came to the gates and said, “Fr. Matthew from St. James Parish.” God gave him a wooden staff and a cotton robe. The priest said, “He was only a taxi cab driver. Why did he get a gold staff and a silken robe?” God re-plied, “Up here we judge by results. When you preached, people fell asleep. When he drove, people prayed.”

USHERS NEEDED! We are in desperate need of ushers. If you are in church and see that there are only one or two ushers, please volunteer to help out.
