Catholic Charities Adoption Program provides CRADLE CARE (the family and home that cares for the baby) for newborns that are waiting for adoption. The time commitment is usually 30 days until the baby goes to the adoptive home. Prayerfully consider whether God may be calling you to be a part of this special ministry. For more information please call our Adoption Program at 860-889-8346 ext. 282.

Please be advised, there is now water in a tank at the cemetery available for watering plants. Bring your own watering can. This tank is located at the edge of the cemetery to the right of Father Dunn’s monument.

Eucharistic Adoration: two adorers are needed each hour after Mass on Fridays at St. Philip 9am to 5:50pm. Please call Sandra Mullarkey: 860-429-0322. We need people who can commit to one hour, as well as people able to substitute when necessary. All parishioners from St. Philip and St. Jude are invited. The church has strict rules regarding not leaving the Blessed Sacrament unattended. With the summer months upon us, it is even more difficult to cover the hours. One alternative is to have adoration end at 1:00 or 2:00 in the afternoon.

Eucharistic Ministers, Lectors and Altar Servers The June schedule and July availability forms are on

our website. If you feel called to be an Altar Server, Eucharistic Minister or Lector now is the time to come forward.

WE NEED YOU!

As with last year's Fortnight, the event will begin and end with a special Mass.

Archbishop William E. Lori of Baltimore, chairman of the USCCB Ad Hoc Committee for Religious Liberty, will open the 2013 Fortnight for Freedom by celebrating Mass at Baltimore's historic Basilica of the National Shrine of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, scheduled for June 21 at 7 p.m. EDT. Cardinal Donald Wuerl of Washington will celebrate the closing Mass at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington on July 4 at 12 p.m. EDT.

This year's Fortnight occurs just weeks before August 1, when the administration's HHS mandate coercing us to violate our deeply-held beliefs will be enforced against most religious non-profits. During the Fortnight, the Supreme Court's decisions on the definition of marriage will likely be handed down as well. Those decisions could have a profound impact on religious freedom for generations to come. Bishop Cote reminds us that “It is through prayer, study, and peaceful public action during the Fortnight for Freedom, that we in the Diocese and across the Country will help preserve the fundamental right of religious freedom.” Bishop Cote asks that each day during the Fortnight, we pray the following Prayer for the Protection of Religious Liberty. “Prayer,” Bishop Cote stresses, “…is the most powerful tool we have among the many responses to the crisis we face. Let us pray that those who govern will trust and uphold the First Amendment.”

Prayer for the Protection of Religious Liberty O God our Creator, from your provident hand we have received our right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. You have called us as your people and given us the right and the duty to worship you, the only true God, and your Son, Jesus Christ. Through the power and working of your Holy Spirit, you call us to live out our faith in the midst of the world, bringing the light and the saving truth of the Gospel to every corner of society. We ask you to bless us in our vigilance for the gift of religious liberty. Give us the strength of mind and heart to readily defend our freedoms when they are threatened; give us courage in making our voices heard on behalf of the rights of your Church and the freedom of conscience of all people of faith. Grant, we pray, O heavenly Father, a clear and united voice to all your sons and daughters gathered in your Church in this decisive hour in the history of our nation, so that, with every trial withstood and every danger overcome— for the sake of our children, our grandchildren, and all who come after us— this great land will always be "one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
