How do we save water in school?

At the end of our Eco-council meetings we always think of a relevant ‘Big Question’ to ask rest of the school.

A regular question that is put to the whole school is “How can we save water?”

These are some of our ideas...

In the lunch hall After lunch the water left in the jugs is

collected by the midday supervisors.

The water is saved Year six monitors pour the water into a

water butt that provides water for the lazy hose system in our polytunnel.

In the toilets Every toilet system in the school has

been fitted with a ‘Save-a-flush Freddie’ helping to save water when you flush the toilet.

Wash hand basins Push down taps are used to help

reduce the problem of taps dripping and being left on!

playground to water the plants and our kitchen garden area.

Water fountains Water fountains have been installed in

the playground to supply fresh drinking water during the day.

Rain water hub Our latest water saving devise is a rain

water hub. This collects water and allows a hose to be fitted so it can transfer water all around the garden.

Overflow water butts To increase the amount of rainwater

harvesting we had three overflow water butts installed. Using the rainwater hub we plan to move them into our kitchen garden area.
