Why Benchmark?
• Comply with California Assembly Bill 1103• Earn points toward LEED and Green Globes
certifications.• Earn ENERGY STAR ® label• Track energy use and save money• Meet requirement for SDG&E incentive/rebates.• Reduce greenhouse gases risks• SMART BUSINESS!

Three Criteria for Rating BuildingEnergy Performance
• 1. Building designation:– More than 50% of gross floor area must be defined
as the 15 ratable Space Types.– The remaining 50% is subject to:
• Parking cannot exceed total building square foot• “Other” Space to be under 10% of building sq ft• “Multifamily Housing” to be under 10% of building
– For Hospital, Other Spaces can only be Data Center,Other, Parking and Swimming Pool. Please refer to Criteria for Rating Building Energy Performance
![Page 12: Benchmarking 101 - IFMA San Diegoifmasandiego.org/.../02/IFMABenchmarking811201.pdf · Benchmarking 101 Presented by: Emerging Technologies Associates Inc August 11, 2010. 2 Proprietary](https://reader034.vdocuments.us/reader034/viewer/2022050111/5f48cfd31446071b871a529c/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)

• 2. Operating Characteristics such as:– 5,000 sq ft with Minimum and maximum sizes– Operate for 30 hours/week– At least once PC– At least 50% average annual occupancyThese vary according to Space Type.
• 3. Energy DataTwo years minimum recommended.See the other requirements outlined on ENERGY STAR web page underCriteria for Rating Eligibility andSDG&E Benchmarking Application Supplement

Ratable and Non Ratable Buildings“Other” Spaces
Non Ratable or “ Other “ Spaces:– More than 50% of the building does not
include one of the 14 Eligible Spaces– If 10% of more of the building is “Other” not
ratable.
Please refer to Guidance on the Use of Other in Portfolio Manager

Campus orsingle building eligibility ?
• EPA’s national energy performance rating system isbased on a statistical analysis of individual buildings, notcampuses of buildings.
• Buildings on a campus must be sub-metered and getseparate energy performance ratings and ENERGYSTAR labels.
Buildings that have multiple towers connected bycommon concourse levels and/or hallways may qualify if,– 1. have seamless connection– 2. common indivisible area between them (cafeteria or atrium;
not walkway)

Enroll in ABS– If you already have added a meter in the past and
would like to include the meter in Automatedbenchmarking, please create a parallel Meter with theAdd Meter link.
– You can actually add the meter account number andmeter number in your existing Meter and have ABSinput previous 36 months of data overriding yourmanual input.
IMPORTANT: If you are applying for the label, runparallel meter accounts until you have compareddata.
ABS is best method of entry! Easy andtimely !

What are REC’s
• Tracking for Renewable EnergyCertificates (RECs) is available.
• A REC represents the environmental, social, and other non-power qualitiesassociated with a unit of renewableelectricity.
• You may purchase RECs whether or notyou have on-site renewable energy andtrack them in Portfolio Manager.
![Page 47: Benchmarking 101 - IFMA San Diegoifmasandiego.org/.../02/IFMABenchmarking811201.pdf · Benchmarking 101 Presented by: Emerging Technologies Associates Inc August 11, 2010. 2 Proprietary](https://reader034.vdocuments.us/reader034/viewer/2022050111/5f48cfd31446071b871a529c/html5/thumbnails/47.jpg)

Add a Meter
Renewable energy, such as solar, that isproduced on site counts as energy savingsinstead of energy use.If such excess energy is sold to utilities, you. enter the energy as a negativenumber

Change from Baseline:Adjusted Energy Use (%)
• It is % change in a facility's energy consumption between itsbaseline energy period and current energy period.
• Means to measure facility performance even if the facility cannotgenerate an energy performance rating.
• Need at least 11 months of consecutive energy meter and space
attribute data .

As of June 7, 2010, existing Computer Data Center spaces have been convertedto the new Data Center space type. Estimates will be used for the IT energy loaduntil June 2012. After that time, IT energy metering will be required.
Distribution Center can now be entered as space type ”UnrefrigeratedWarehouse and receive a label.
