APPLYING ANDREW GOODWINS THEORYWe will intend to apply all of the following

points into our music video.By Tayla Powell

RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN LYRICS AND VISUALS

When the lyrics appear ‘look into your heart and you'll find love love love love’, Conrad with make a love heart with his hands to the love of his life and the camera will

focus on her to instantly suggest who she is singing about. Plus, the word ‘love’ will appear on screen for a

few seconds. In addition, the lyric ‘listen to the music of the moment people dance and sing, we're just one big

family’  we will capture Conrad and Abi, having fun, laughing and joking together as if they are a family, this will also help be portrayed through the use of flashbacks

of their childhood. We did initially have a thought of capturing them dancing at the fairground, although as this is very typical and we want our music video to be

diverse from the rest.

RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN MUSIC AND VISUALS

At the beginning of the music video, the tempo of the song begins to build up, we can then visually see

Conrad is set out to find the love of his life and he will have an adventure to get there, this will be

surrounded by bright colours which will help convey the joyous moment. In addition, a similar thing will

happen towards the end of the music video, the tempo of the song will slow down and we will be able

to visually see the couple together, the sun will be setting in the background and the composition will

be filled with subtle colours to help portray the relaxed atmosphere.

CODES AND CONVENTIONS APPLIEDPop/soul music videos usually base their videos in naturalistic lactations to help create the cool and calm atmosphere. In addition to this, typical pop music videos usually base their music videos on

romance, whereas soul music generally bases their narratives on family and friends, therefore we have

combined these two conventions but creating a relationship between two teenagers who have known each other their whole life (which many people can relate to) to help not only to appeal to the intended

target audience but to a wider audience

DEMAND OF CLOSE UPSSimilar to other music videos I have analyzed, the use

of close ups of the artist has been in demand to help promote their image, therefore it is simple that we will use a lot of close ups of Jon who is representing

the figure of Conrad. Many of the close ups will come from the performance scene rather than the

narrative.

FREQUENT NOTION OF LOOKING

There will be a notion of looking from Conrad looking at Abi from a distance, just admiring what she does. In addition, there will be frequent point of view shots

from Conrad himself, this has been done to act as if us the audience is Conrad. Moreover, there will also

be frequent notion of looking when Conrad looks into the camera as if it is a mirror.

INTERTEXTUAL REFERENCES

Intertextual references does not solely apply here, although it was inspired by Taylor Swifts, ‘Mine’ by

the storyline, as it is based on a friendship developing with the use of flashbacks and so on.

There is also an influence from reggae artist – Bob Marley due to the tempo and dominant instruments

being used in the song.

In addition, there is a slight intertextual reference of Zac Efron, in which we use his face and name on the mobile phone when a guy calls Abi, this is when Jon

get jealous and walks away.
