West Salem ~ Putting the Unity in Community
Since 1782!
From rural farmland to urban gardens, sharing 200 years of history.
The West Salem Garden Club presents The 2012 West Salem Garden Tour featuring Old Salem’s Miksch Garden and House.
Join us as we showcase the beautiful & diverse gardens of Historic West Salem and highlight the historical journey from the first home garden in Old Salem and its outstretching farmland to what has become today’s urban landscapes in West Salem. Come explore our intertwined history and discover the heritage and evolution of home gardening in our neighborhood.
This year’s tour will feature 18 gardens of all sizes and types. From edible landscaping to community gardening to Asian inspired spaces, West Salem has it all. Bring your family and friends to explore the gardening passion and landscaped beauty of your neighbors’ hearts and homes.

Q:
A:
I’ve heard about a Co-op that moved into West Salem. Can you give any information?
According to President, Nancy Crooks: Triad Buying Co-op, Inc. is not a store but a food and grocery membership organization. Once a month members purchase groceries wholesale from a national natural goods seller, just like the nationally known natural
foods stores, and local products like eggs, bread, fruits and vegetables, soaps, meat, and dairy products. Members also have the option to purchase fresh foods such as local milk, breads, and eggs on a weekly basis. TBC was formerly housed in churches, where it sprouted and disappeared like a mushroom every four weeks. TBC’s new home is in West Salem Square (formerly Hewitt Business Center) on S. Marshall Street.
As a co-operative, members actively share the work of the co-op, and enjoy being part of the local food movement and the community-building aspects of working together for a common good. For more information and an online membership application: www.tbcoop.org. TBC INVITES WEST SALEM NEIGHBORS TO TOUR THE CO-OP ON THURSDAY, JUNE 21 FROM NOON TO 1 P.M.
