START: NOVEMBER 29- First Sunday of Advent
FINISH: JANUARY 1, 2021- Mary, Mother of God From the Author Fr. Michael Gaitley… WHY "MORNING GLORY"? When you first saw this book, you may have wondered, "Why is it called 33 Days to Morning Glory?" The "33 days" part should now be clear - it refers to the days of preparation - but maybe the "morning glory" part isn't so clear. I chose this part of the title because I think it best captures what Marian consecration is all about: A new way of life in Christ. The act of consecrating oneself to Jesus through Mary marks the beginning of a gloriously new day, a new dawn, a brand new morning in one's spiritual journey. It's a fresh start, and it changes everything. I had the experience of a gloriously new morning in my own spiritual journey when I consecrated myself to Mary for the first time on December 8, 1995. It was the end of the first semester of my freshman year in college. Earlier that semester, a friend had given me a copy of St. Louis de Montfort's book, True Devotion to Mary. When I saw the words on the back cover, declaring that it presents a "short, easy, secure, and perfect" way to become a saint, I was sold. I thought to myself, "Hey, this is the kind of way I need!" So, despite having a pile of homework, I started reading. Before I was even halfway through the book, I stopped, set it down, and resolutely decided, "I will do this consecration." Afterward, I picked the next available Marian feast, ran the 33-day prayer marathon, and made the consecration with great fervor. That day totally changed my life. I look back on it now, and I can truly say that everything changed. Everything opened up. It was a gloriously new morning in my walk with Christ, now with Mary. Saint John Paul II describes consecration to Mary as having had a similar effect on him. He even says that his reading of de Montfort's book was a "turning point" in his life. In fact, his consecration to Jesus through Mary was so important to him that he adopted as his papal motto de Montfort's own words that summarize total consecration to Jesus through Mary, "Totus Tuus," ("Totally Yours"). Also, it's reported that the Pope recited the long version of de Montfort's consecration prayer every day. I've met many people who have consecrated themselves to Mary, and they completely relate to the Pope's words about how it's a turning point in one's life - or, as I put it, "a gloriously new morning" in one's spiritual journey. It truly does make a difference. It truly is "the surest, easiest, shortest, and the most perfect means" to becoming a saint,…”

EMPIEZA: 29 DE NOVIEMBRE- Primer domingo de Adviento
TERMINA: 1 de enero de 2021- Solemnidad de María, Madre de Dios Del autor P. Michael Gaitley... ¿POR QUÉ "GLORIOSO AMANECER”? La primera vez que viste este libro, puede que se haya preguntado: "¿Por qué se llama 33 Días hacia un Glorioso Amanecer?” La parte de "33 días" ahora debería ser clara -se refiere a los días de preparación-, pero tal vez la parte de "glorioso amanecer" no está tan clara. Elegí esta parte del título porque creo que captura mejor de qué se trata la consagración mariana: Una nueva forma de vida en Cristo. El acto de consagrarse a Jesús a través de María marca el comienzo de un día gloriosamente nuevo, de un nuevo amanecer, de una nueva mañana en el camino espiritual. Es un nuevo comienzo, y lo cambia todo. Tuve la experiencia de una mañana gloriosamente nueva en mi propio viaje espiritual cuando me consagré a María por primera vez el 8 de diciembre de 1995. Era el final del primer semestre de mi primer año en la universidad. Ese semestre, un amigo me había dado una copia del libro de San Luis de Montfort, Verdadera devoción a María. Cuando vi las palabras en la contraportada, declarando que presenta una manera "corta, fácil, segura y perfecta" de convertirse en un santo, estaba convencido. A Prayer for Souls in Purgatory Deacon Peter Richardson
During the month of November, as we highlight the need to pray for Souls in Purgatory, I thought I would share a prayer with you that a Brother Knight (Knights of Columbus) shared with me a few years ago and that I now include in my daily prayers. It is the Prayer of Saint Gertrude the Great, a 13th century Cistercian nun whose feast day we celebrate on November 16th. Saint Gertrude entered religious life at the monastery in Helfta, East Germany at age 5! At Helfta, she received a very high level education and followed the Rule of Saint Benedict. She went on to be both a writer and theologian. Some of her writings have been preserved and Saint Teresa of Avila chose her as a model and guide. Saint Gertrude had many profound mystical experiences and visions before her death at age 46. She helped spread the devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Through one of her mystical experiences, she formed the following prayer and according to tradition, the Lord promised Saint Gertrude that every time the prayer is said devoutly, 1,000 souls would be released from Purgatory. Prayer of Saint Gertrude the Great: “Eternal Father, I offer Thee the most precious blood of thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the Masses said throughout the world today, for all the Holy Souls in Purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal Church, for those in my own home, and in my family. Amen.”

Durante el mes de noviembre, al destacar la necesidad de orar por
las almas en el Purgatorio, pensé en compartir una oración con ustedes que un hermano Caballero (Caballeros de Colón) compartió conmigo hace unos años y que ahora incluyo en mis oraciones diarias. Es la Oración de Santa Gertrudis la Grande, una monja cisterciense del siglo XIII cuya festividad celebramos el 16 de noviembre. Santa Gertrudis entró a la vida religiosa en el monasterio de Helfta, Este de Alemania a los 5 años! En Helfta, recibió una educación de muy alto nivel y siguió la Regla de San Benito. Pasó a ser escritora y teóloga. Algunos de sus escritos han sido conservados y Santa Teresa de Avila la eligió como modelo y guía. Santa Gertrudis tuvo muchas experiencias y visiones místicas profundas antes de su muerte a los 46 años. Ayudó a difundir la devoción al Sagrado Corazón de Jesús. A través de una de sus experiencias místicas, formó la siguiente oración y según la tradición, el Señor prometió a Santa Gertrudis que cada vez que la oración se dice devotamente, 1.000 almas serían liberadas del Purgatorio. Oración de Santa Gertrudis la Grande: “Padre Eterno, te ofrezco la Preciosísima Sangre de Tu Divino Hijo Jesús, en unión con las Misas que hoy se celebran en todo el mundo, por todas las almas santas del purgatorio, por los pecadores de todas partes, por los pecadores de la Iglesia, por los de mi propia casa y por los de mi familia. Amén.”
