"Oh Blessed Virgin, Mother of the Re-Created World"

Blessed Lady, sky and stars, earth and rivers, day and night – everything that is subject to the power or use of man – re-joice that through you they are in some sense restored to their lost beauty and are endowed with inexpressible new grace. All creatures were dead, as it were, useless for men or for the praise of God, who made them. The world, contrary to its true destiny, was corrupted

and tainted by the acts of men who served idols. Now all creation has been restored to life and rejoices that it is controlled and given splendor by men who believe in God.

The universe rejoices with new and indefinable loveli-ness. Not only does it feel the unseen presence of God himself, its Creator, it sees him openly, working and making it holy. These great blessings spring from the blessed fruit of Mary’s womb.

Through the fullness of the grace that was given you, dead things rejoice in their freedom, and those in heaven are glad to be made new. Through the Son who was the glorious fruit of your virgin womb, just souls who died before his life-giving death rejoice as they are freed from captivity, and the angels are glad at the restoration of their shattered domain.

Lady, full and overflowing with grace, all creation re-ceives new life from your abundance. Virgin, blessed above all creatures, through your blessing all creation is blessed, not only creation from its Creator, but the Crea-tor himself has been blessed by creation.

To Mary God gave his only-begotten Son, whom he loved as himself. Through Mary God made himself a Son, not different but the same, by nature Son of God and Son of Mary. The whole universe was created by God, and God was born of Mary. God created all things, and Mary gave birth to God. The God who made all things gave himself form through Mary, and thus he made his own creation. He who could create all things from noth-ing would not remake his ruined creation without Mary.

God, then, is the Father of the created world and Mary the mother of the re-created world. God is the Father by whom all things were given life, and Mary the mother through whom all things were given new life. For God begot the Son, through whom all things were made, and Mary gave birth to him as the Savior of the world. With-out God’s Son, nothing could exist; without Mary’s Son, nothing could be redeemed.

Truly the Lord is with you, to whom the Lord granted that all nature should owe as much to you as to himself.

Reminder: Holy day of obligation Thursday, December 8, Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception. Mary, under this title, is the Patroness of the United States of America. May Our Lady of the Im-maculate Conception pray for our country.

Our Lady of Guadalupe Mass On Monday, December 12th, the actual feast day of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Patroness of the Americas, Mass will be celebrated at 5:00 a.m., followed by the singing of the mañanitas. Masses will be celebrated in both the old and new churches.

Fiesta of Our Lady of Guadalupe

Our annual celebration of Our Lady of Guadalupe will take place on Sunday, December 11th. The pro-cession will begin at 9:15 am in front of the city hall.

Food Sale: The Guadalupe Festival is an important fundraiser for our parish. We will have a variety of food for sale to help raise funds for

El cielo, las estrellas, la tierra, los ríos, el día y la noche, y todo cuanto está sometido al poder o utilidad de los hom-bres, se felicitan de la gloria perdida, pues una nueva gra-cia inefable, resucitada en cierto modo por ti ¡oh Seño-ra!, les ha sido concedida. To-das las cosas se encontraban como muertas, al haber perdi-

do su innata dignidad de servir al dominio y al uso de aquellos que alaban a Dios, para lo que habían sido crea-das; se encontraban aplastadas por la opresión y como descoloridas por el abuso que de ellas hacían los servido-res de los ídolos, para los que no habían sido creadas. Pero ahora, como resucitadas, felicitan a María, al verse regidas por el dominio honradas por el uso de los que alaban al Señor. Ante la nueva e inestimable gracia, las cosas toda salta-ron de gozo, al sentir que, en adelante, no sólo estaban regidas por la presencia rectora e invisible de Dios su creador, sino que también, usando de ellas visiblemente, las santificaba. Tan grandes bienes eran obra de bendito fruto del seno bendito de la bendita María. Por la plenitud de tu gracia, lo que estaba cautivo en el infierno se alegra por su liberación, y lo que estaba por encima del mundo se regocija por su restauración. En efecto, por el poder del Hijo glorioso de tu gloriosa virgi-nidad, los justos que perecieron antes de la muerte vivifi-cadora de Cristo se alegran de que haya sido destruida su cautividad, y los ángeles se felicitan al ver restaurada su ciudad medio derruida. ¡Oh mujer llena de gracia, sobreabundante de gracia cuya plenitud desborda a la creación entera y la hace reverde-cer! ¡Oh Virgen bendita, bendita por encima de todo por tu bendición queda bendita toda criatura, no sólo la crea-ción por el Creador, sino también el Creador por criatura! Dios entregó a María su propio Hijo, el único igual a él, a quien engendra de su corazón como amándose a sí mis-mo. Valiéndose de María, se hizo Dios un Hijo, no distin-to, sino el mismo, para que realmente fuese uno y mismo el Hijo de Dios y de María. Todo lo que nace criatura de Dios, y Dios nace de María. Dios creó todas las cosas, y María engendró a Dios. Dios, que hizo todas las cosas, se hizo a sí mismo mediante María; y, de este modo, volvió a hacer todo lo que había hecho. El que pudo hacer todas las cosas de la nada no quiso rehacer sin María lo que había sido manchado.

Did You Know? Be aware of the difference between accidental and suspicious bruises

Many children play hard, and can suffer bruises or injuries as a result. With some injuries, it’s hard to tell whether they are a result of too much roughhousing or abusive treatment. Follow this guideline to as-sess a child’s bruising. Most accidental bruises are in common locations – knees, elbows, and foreheads. In contrast, bruises on a child’s neck or back could indicate potential mistreatment or abuse. Although kids should be allowed to explore and learn their limits, suspicious bruises are warning signs that should not be ignored. Love Desires to see God by St. Peter Chrysologus

When God saw the world falling to ruin because of fear, he immediately acted to call it back to himself with love. He invited it by his grace, preserved it by his love, and embraced it with compassion.

When the earth had become hardened in evil, God sent the flood both to punish and to release it. He called Noah to be the father of a new era, urged him with kindly words, and showed that he trusted him; he gave him fatherly instruc-tion about the present calamity, and through his grace con-soled him with hope for the future. But God did not mere-ly issue commands; rather with Noah sharing the work, he filled the ark with the future seed of the whole world. The sense of loving fellowship thus engendered removed ser-vile fear, and a mutual love could continue to preserve what shared labor had effected.

God called Abraham out of the heathen world, symbolical-ly lengthened his name, and made him the father of all believers. God walked with him on his journeys, protected him in foreign lands, enriched him with earthly posses-sions, and honored him with victories. He made a cove-nant with him, saved him from harm, accepted his hospi-tality, and astonished him by giving him the offspring he had despaired of. Favored with so many graces and drawn by such great sweetness of divine love, Abraham was to learn to love God rather than fear him and love rather than fear was to inspire his worship.

God comforted Jacob by a dream during his flight, roused him to combat upon his return, and encircled him with a wrestler’s embrace to teach him not to be afraid of the au-thor of the conflict, but to love him. God called Moses as a father would, and with fatherly affection invited him to become the liberator of his people. In all the events we have recalled, the flame of divine love enkindled human hearts and its intoxication overflowed into men’s senses.

Wounded by love, they longed to look upon God with their bodily eyes. Yet how could our narrow human vision apprehend God, whom whole world cannot contain! But the law of love is not concerned with what will be, what ought to be, what can be. Love does not reflect; it is unrea-sonable and knows no moderation.

Love refuses to be consoled when its goal proves impossi-ble, despises all hindrances to the attainment of its object. Love destroys the lover, if he cannot obtain what he loves; love follows its own promptings, and does not think of right and wrong.

Love inflames desire which impels it toward things that are forbidden. But why continue? It is intolerable for love not to see the object of its longing. That is why whatever reward they merited was nothing to the saints if they could not see the Lord. A love that desires to see God may not have reasonableness on its side, but it is the evidence of filial love.

It gave Moses the temerity to say: If I have found favor in your eyes, show me your face. It inspired the psalmist to make the same prayer: Show me your face. Even the pa-gans made their images for this purpose: they wanted actu-ally to see what they mistakenly revered.

El amor desea ver a Dios por San Pedro Crisologo

Al ver Dios que el temor arruinaba el mundo, trató inme-diatamente de volverlo a llamar con amor, de invitarlo con su gracia, de sostenerlo con su caridad, de vinculárselo con su afecto.

Por eso purificó la tierra, afincada en el mal, con un diluvio vengador, y llamó a Noé padre de la nueva generación, per-suadiéndolo con suaves palabras, ofreciéndole una confian-za familiar, al mismo tiempo que lo instruía piadosamente sobre el presente y lo consolaba con su gracia, respecto al futuro. Y no le dio ya órdenes, sino que con el esfuerzo de su colaboración encerró en el arca las criaturas de todo el mundo, de manera que el amor que surgía de esta colabora-ción acabase con el temor de la servidumbre, y se conserva-ra con el amor común lo que se había salvado con el común esfuerzo.

Por eso también llamó a Abrahán de entre los gentiles, en-grandeció su nombre, lo hizo padre de la fe, lo acompañó en el camino, lo protegió entre los extraños, le otorgó rique-zas, lo honró con triunfos, se le obligó con promesas, lo libró de injurias, se hizo su huésped bondadoso, lo glorificó con una descendencia de la que ya desesperaba; todo ello para que, rebosante de tantos bienes, seducido por tamaña dulzura de la caridad divina, aprendiera a amar a Dios y no a temerlo, a venerarlo con amor y no con temor.

Por eso también consoló en sueños a Jacob en su huida, y a su regreso lo incitó a combatir y lo retuvo con el abrazo del luchador; para que amase al padre de aquel combate, y no lo temiese.

Y así mismo interpeló a Moisés en su lengua vernácula, le habló con paterna caridad y le invitó a ser el liberador de su pueblo.

Pero así que la llama del amor divino prendió en los cora-zones humanos y toda la ebriedad del amor de Dios se de-rramó sobre los humanos sentidos, satisfecho el espíritu por todo lo que hemos recordado, los hombres comenzaron a querer contemplar a Dios con sus ojos carnales.

Pero la angosta mirada humana ¿cómo iba a poder abarcar a Dios, al que no abarca todo el mundo creado? La exigencia del amor no atiende a lo que va a ser, o a lo que debe o pue-de ser. El amor ignora el juicio, carece de razón, no conoce la medida. El amor no se aquieta ante lo imposible, no se remedia con la dificultad.

El amor es capaz de matar al amante si no puede alcanzar lo deseado; va a donde se siente arrastrado, no a donde debe ir. El amor engendra el deseo, se crece con el ardor y, por el ardor, tiende a lo inalcanzable. ¿Y qué más diré?

El amor no puede quedarse sin ver lo que ama: por eso los santos tuvieron en poco todos sus merecimientos, si no iban a poder ver a Dios.

Moisés se atreve por ello a decir: Si he obtenido tu favor, enséñame tu gloria. Y otro dice también: Déjame ver tu figura. Incluso los mismos gentiles modelaron sus ídolos para poder contemplar con sus propios ojos lo que venera-ban en medio de sus errores.
