In Loving Memory

This book is dedicated to my dad and my wife, who both passed

away from cancer. They both had a never say die attitude (pardon the

pun)

My dad Maurice always told me “never say never”. My wife Jamie

would always say “never give up, never quit”. My dad was my hero,

my mentor, and taught me everything I know. My wife was my

partner, supporting me no matter what, giving me the strength to

carry on, sharing that same strength with everyone she met.

My dad was an artist and college professor who influenced so many

lives. Although he passed away in 1994, I am still amazed to this day,

all these years later when I come across people who tell me what an

incredible impact he had on their lives, not only in art but in many

areas of life.

So, I want to thank my dad, Maurice and my wife, Jamie for

everything they have done for me and for others. And for giving me

the strength from beyond to share this information with you. My

hope is for you to find it not only valuable but to use what you learn

to impact your own life as well as the lives of everyone around you.

Enjoy!

About The Author

Let’s begin with a little about me. First of all let me say, I’m a” just

get to the point” type of person so this part is a little hard for me, but

all the experts tell me “no one will listen to what you have to say if

they don’t know who you are” So, here goes. Feel free to skip this

part. I would.

Born in Brooklyn, NY and raised on Long Island in a family

dominated by teachers somehow, I got the entrepreneurial bug in me

from a very early age. I started my first business with a friend at 9

years old and formed my first corporation at 14 with my dad, a ski

tour travel company called, (what else for a professor) Educational Ski

Tours. I wanted to go skiing more than my parents wanted to take

me so I started to arrange groups through schools and got to go as

often as I wanted. BONUS I got to go for free and even made some

money too.

Fast forward to Senior year. My friends and I took a limo to the

prom and I decided that was the life for me. Riding in a limo every

day sounded awesome. So I told my parents college was not for me.

I’m going to start a limousine business. It took about as long as it

took me to say it that my idea was immediately shot down. “No son

of ours is going to skip college!”

Page 13: Your Goals Are Set Now What?€¦ · Your Goals Are Set Now What? The Secret To Achieving Every Goal You Set You Have Been Told To Set Goals, Now Learn The Guaranteed Steps To Achieve

The Secret To Achieving Every Goal You Set

PACE University here I come, and in my junior year in a marketing

class, I wrote a business plan for, you guessed it, a Limo company.

That summer with a small loan of $2,000. Dollars for a deposit on a

limo, SGF custom limousine was started. Of course, I had to

guarantee to finish school. I had started 3 other businesses while in

school. A Nightclub on campus, a ticket agency, and party catering

service. I Started a few more companies after school. I even attempted

to take the limousine company public and failed.

I sold it and actually got my first JOB working for someone else since

I was in high school, I was the VP of sales and business development

at a communications and telecom company. Unfortunately, 9/11

ended that career quickly, and I found myself unemployed, for the

first time in my life.

Newly married with a baby on the way, I found myself in the one

industry I never thought I would be in, Insurance. While I didn’t like

the company, I moved to management quickly and then switched

companies to Aflac as a District Sales Coordinator. Where I would

spend the next 15 years.

After numerous sales, management and leadership awards, and Jamie

having a harder time every day with cancer. I decided to make the

jump, leave Aflac and work from home with the Anthony Robbins

Companies as a Coaching Strategist. I had finally found my home.

This was it! I loved helping others to raise the quality of their lives to

4

Page 14: Your Goals Are Set Now What?€¦ · Your Goals Are Set Now What? The Secret To Achieving Every Goal You Set You Have Been Told To Set Goals, Now Learn The Guaranteed Steps To Achieve

Stephen G Flecker

another level. Helping others to achieve everything they set out to do

and many times more than they thought was possible.

Unfortunately, my wife got sicker and passed away, I was suddenly a

single dad and became rather depressed. So depressed, I couldn’t get

out of bed. When my dad passed away 20 years earlier, I had the limo

business to keep me occupied and distracted. Now Robbins had told

me to take all the time off I needed. I wasn’t working, and it was a

very dark time in my life.

Without a doubt, one of the lowest points I have ever reached. It

took every ounce of my energy and experience to turn things around.

It was a simple shift, NOT easy, but simple. I had to reach deep back

to all my personal development education and focused on what I

have done for others and began to focus on what was really

important.

THEN, I made a left instead of a right. What does that mean, you

might be thinking?

That’s how simple the shift was. I didn’t want to get out of bed for

almost 2 months. My life was falling apart. Not paying bills, barely

eating, not even wanting to get up to go to the bathroom. Of course,

that was one thing I couldn’t avoid. That’s where I made the shift.

Turning it all around. I made a Left instead of a Right. When

walking back to bed from the bathroom, instead of a right to fall back

into bed and depression, I went left to my home office.

5

Page 15: Your Goals Are Set Now What?€¦ · Your Goals Are Set Now What? The Secret To Achieving Every Goal You Set You Have Been Told To Set Goals, Now Learn The Guaranteed Steps To Achieve

The Secret To Achieving Every Goal You Set

That’s it simple, not easy, but simple. Once there, I didn’t know

what to do, I didn’t want to be there, I didn’t want to do anything. I

just sat at my desk and stared at the blank computer screen, huge pile

of mail, that my kids had been piling up, and just thought about my

empty life. That day I didn’t open a letter, never turned on the

computer. I sat there and just thought about everything I was

missing.

I went back to bed a few hours later, but the next day I forced myself

to go left again. This time I turned on the computer, I opened my

mail. I was starting to get my life back and on track. When you want

to make a change or a shift, it's simple, go left instead of right. It’s

not easy but it is Simple: You may have heard the definition of

insanity is doing the same thing over and over again but expecting

different results. If you want to achieve the goals you have set, but

have never seemed to get there, then try going left instead of right. In

the following pages, I will show you a simple, not easy, but simple

way to achieve everything you ever wanted. Big goals, small goals, it

does not matter. You just need to follow the simple steps and you can

change the course of your life and those around you.

“I get knocked down but I get up again, You’re

never gonna keep me down. We’ll be singin’ When

we’re Winnin’ ”

Goal Setting Statistics

Congratulations on making a decision to take action. More

importantly by getting to this point of the report you are already a

success and in the top 1%.

Not only have you decided to take Action YOU ACTUALLY DID!

That’s huge. Congratulate yourself. Give yourself a pat on the back,

when you finish the book go get a massage or a nice dinner.

Celebrating our successes is a critical part of achieving our goals. I'll

cover that later on.

When preparing to write this report I was very surprised to read the

following statistics, But the more I thought about it, the more it

makes complete sense.

Most people are not getting what they want in life. Harvard

University conducted a recent study and found that 83% of the

population does not have any goals. 14% have some type of idea or

plan in their head. But only 3% have actually written them down.

The 14% are an average of 9 times more successful in terms of getting

what they want, than the 83%. The 3% are 32 times more successful

than the 14% and 442 times more successful than the 83%.

To dive even deeper, of the 3% that write them down more than 3

out of 4 don’t create a plan or track their goals.

Would it surprise you that only 22% of those who write them down,

achieve any part of their goals, while better than almost 80% of those

who write them down, create a plan of Action, follow, and track their

plan either reach or exceed them? You might ask, what do all these

7

Page 17: Your Goals Are Set Now What?€¦ · Your Goals Are Set Now What? The Secret To Achieving Every Goal You Set You Have Been Told To Set Goals, Now Learn The Guaranteed Steps To Achieve

The Secret To Achieving Every Goal You Set

numbers mean? It’s simple. If you want to reach and exceed your

goals, there are a few steps to follow that will just about guarantee

your success. Numbers do not lie.

8

Types Of Goals

Let’s go over what most people think of and call goals. Then correct

any beliefs or misconceptions that you may have. Goals have been

called many things by many people; wishes, dreams, and hopes or

wants and desires. I desire a new car. Is that really a goal? Needs are

considered goals by many. I need to lose 10lbs. While you can label

the goal any way you want, it really only becomes an achievable goal

once it becomes a “must”. When we must do something it always

seems to get done.

Goals can be in any area of life, business or career, health, spiritual,

money, community, social, Family, or just about anything that you

would like to attain at a new level.

A DREAM written down becomes a wish

A WISH with a date becomes a Goal

A GOAL broken down into steps becomes a plan

A PLAN backed by Action becomes Reality

The Right Mindset and Belief Systems

Our Belief Systems control our mindset and so much more. What is

a belief system?

In its simplest definition, a belief is something that we know to be

true or correct.

There is no other way. Do you believe in a higher power? Do you

believe Murder is Wrong? These are two very strong beliefs for many

people but whether your belief is correct depends on whom you ask.

We develop our beliefs from everything around us, parents, friends,

school, environment, internet, coworkers, and anything that may

have an influence on you.

Belief Systems can help or hurt on your road to goal achievement. Is

it possible to accomplish something that you do not believe can

happen? Can you walk barefoot over 1200-degree coals? If you

believe you will get severely burned you will not even attempt it.

However, if you can change your belief systems, anything is possible.

As humans our potential is unlimited. Ask the 10,000 + people that

have attended any of the Tony Robbins' events with a Firewalk. I

have personally walked on coals over 8 times, my 15-year-old

daughter has done it 3 times, the first time she was only 11. My son

has done it twice. When they come up against something they say

11

Page 21: Your Goals Are Set Now What?€¦ · Your Goals Are Set Now What? The Secret To Achieving Every Goal You Set You Have Been Told To Set Goals, Now Learn The Guaranteed Steps To Achieve

The Secret To Achieving Every Goal You Set

can't be done, I just remind them that they walked on fire, and if

they can do that, then they can do anything. And they do.

On May 6th, 1954 Roger Bannister broke the 4-minute mile. Prior to

Bannister achieving this feat many experts in various fields had all

said it was impossible for a human to run that fast for that long. The

first marathon was over 2500 years ago in 490 B.C.E. For 2500 years

it was impossible for a human to run faster than a 4-minute mile.

In the next 8 months after Bannister ran his 3:59.4 mile, 24 more

people accomplished the same impossible task. Once the Belief

System had changed from impossible to possible, the record has been

broken 18 times, and over 1,400 athletes have done it since.

Putting yourself in the right mindset, with an empowering belief

system is the first step in accomplishing anything you desire. You

have to first believe to achieve. You may have noticed I have

highlighted the B and S of belief system. I think you now know why.

How To Correctly Set Goals - A Quick Review

You may already have specific goals you are looking to accomplish. If

not, keep reading.

Put yourself into a positive childlike frame of mind. Remember when

you were 6 or 7 or 10, anything was possible. Start to think as you

did back then, no criticism, no judgement, and there is no limit. Just

write, brainstorm, mind dump, Quantity over Quality. Just keep

writing until you believe there is nothing left in you. Then take a

quick break and write for 5 more minutes. You will be amazed at

what you come up with. Hopefully excited, like never before.

Your ideas should reflect the area you are focusing on: business or

career, health, spiritual, money, community, social, family. First,

think big, think long term, 10 years, 20 years into the future.

Remember, while it may seem too far off to plan, in 20 years you will

be there whether you plan for it or not.

Once you have a list that is exciting, with things you are passionate

about, the next step is to narrow down the list to your most

important musts on the list. Feel free to write more things down as

you go over your list. Something that might seem ridiculous, may just

spark an exceptional idea.

15

Page 25: Your Goals Are Set Now What?€¦ · Your Goals Are Set Now What? The Secret To Achieving Every Goal You Set You Have Been Told To Set Goals, Now Learn The Guaranteed Steps To Achieve

The Secret To Achieving Every Goal You Set

Don’t make the list so overwhelming that you mentally give up

before you start. But don’t sell yourself short either.

As your confidence and belief systems grow, so will your success rate.

Your goals can be expanded as often as you feel you are capable of

doing more. When beginning to set a goal, think as far into the

future as you can, as far as the goal allows. If it’s a new car you are

going for, don’t think 20 years in the future, unless it’s a car that is an

extreme stretch or Quantum leap goal, like a Ferrari, and you want to

build a plan towards that car.

Income or earnings is the best example to use since it’s the easiest to

measure and track.

So, let's say you want to earn $1,000 a week, times that by 52 and set

the goal at $52,000 for the year. And if you want to make 20% more

each year then multiply that out for 5 or even 10 years. So the goal

for year 5 is $107,827. Then round up, make it $110k. Year 10 you

are now earning $268,308. Round up again to 275K.

The conservative goal to set is $275K.

Always go big. There is no shame or disappointment if you come in

short at $250K, but if you set the goal to double your income in 10

years to $100,000. and you fall short at 80k now you’re not happy or

satisfied. SO, always go Big, if it’s a big goal or small, long term or

16

Page 26: Your Goals Are Set Now What?€¦ · Your Goals Are Set Now What? The Secret To Achieving Every Goal You Set You Have Been Told To Set Goals, Now Learn The Guaranteed Steps To Achieve

Stephen G Flecker

short. You are capable of so much more than you think. It's our

disempowering beliefs that limit our creativity and ability.

Always go long term first. It is better to think big and go right for the

10, 20, or even 30, year goals, but if you have to calculate and figure

them out, like above, then that’s ok too.

There’s a great rule I have used for years when setting any goal.

S.M.A.R.T.

S - specific

M- measurable

A - achievable

R - realistic

T - time-based

“Begin with the end in mind.”

Steven Covey

17

Page 27: Your Goals Are Set Now What?€¦ · Your Goals Are Set Now What? The Secret To Achieving Every Goal You Set You Have Been Told To Set Goals, Now Learn The Guaranteed Steps To Achieve

The Secret To Achieving Every Goal You Set

Specific- your goal should be as specific as possible. I want a new car

is not specific. I want a black BMW, is still not enough. A black 2

door BMW Z3 with tan leather interior, power package, heated seats,

upgraded audio package, and everything else you want to specify for

your perfect car is getting specific.

Measurable- you must be able to measure your progress.

Measurement gives you feedback and will hold you accountable.

There are multiple ways to measure a goal. In this example, you may

need to put aside a certain amount of money every week or month

for a down payment. You also can measure your progress by how

close you can get to purchasing or leasing the exact vehicle or do you

have to make some concessions, lesser audio package, less expensive

rims.

Achievable- Goals should push you to the limit and beyond, take

you out of your comfort zone. But it's important that they are

achievable and within your control. You cannot make someone fall in

love with you or make yourself grow taller.

Realistic- Is the goal and time frame realistic? Starting from nothing,

and setting a goal of having the BMW by the end of the month is not

realistic.

Time-based- Trackable. You must set a time frame to track and

achieve a SMART goal. This will hold you accountable and helps in

motivation.

18

Page 28: Your Goals Are Set Now What?€¦ · Your Goals Are Set Now What? The Secret To Achieving Every Goal You Set You Have Been Told To Set Goals, Now Learn The Guaranteed Steps To Achieve

Stephen G Flecker

The next step is to take those SMART goals and break them down.

Again, let's go with a 30-year savings goal. (Not so far-fetched when

you think about it from a retirement perspective).

Now you need to figure out “WHY” it is important to you and a

“must” for you to have $500,000 when you retire in 30 years.

Why comes before How. Reasons First Answers Second. I will

explain in more detail in chapter 6. For now, let's figure out how you

can save $59 dollars a day, or earn an extra $59 per day. Let your

creative mind flow wide open. Take a blank piece of paper, and start

brainstorming or mind dumping again. Anything and everything that

pops into your head, do not think about what will or won't work,

what sounds crazy or nuts. Just write it down. What may seem to be a

crazy idea now may yield a great idea or solution later.

(See SMART check worksheet)

Equally important is your vocabulary, simply put, the words you use.

How you speak to others, how you speak to yourself, what you say in

your head when are just thinking. The power of words is immense.

Words Influence everything. They affect and train your subconscious.

Words affect how you view a situation or the world. How you react

and respond, how you deal with it, how you solve it.

Your subconscious does not hear negative words. If the coach says to

the pitcher, “Don’t throw a curveball” your subconscious mind only

hears THROW A CURVEBALL.

19

Page 29: Your Goals Are Set Now What?€¦ · Your Goals Are Set Now What? The Secret To Achieving Every Goal You Set You Have Been Told To Set Goals, Now Learn The Guaranteed Steps To Achieve

The Secret To Achieving Every Goal You Set

How you use your words is critical to the success of your goals. You

must speak only in positive terms. The simple example everyone has

heard, is the glass is half empty, or is the glass is half full. It gets

harder with things like, I need to lose 10 lbs.

People feel that’s a positive thought. When was the last time you were

happy about losing, lose your keys, lost the game, losing the

argument, lost the bet, losing your mind? It is not a good thing when

we lose something, when it's lost what do we tend to do? We

typically will try to find it. So how should a weight goal be stated?

If you currently weigh 200lbs, then, I will weigh 190 lbs. by June 1st

so I can wear my favorite swimsuit to the beach. Always state your

goals in the positive and in the present tense. I am earning $100,000

dollars a year. I do weigh 190lbs.

Start using exciting terms, positive words, upbeat phrases in your

everyday life. You will be amazed at how it will make you feel, and

the others you interact with. When someone asks, “how are you?”

What do you say? Most people respond with “fine” or “OK”. If it’s a

good friend, maybe you say, “same shit different day” or “I’d

complain but no one would listen anyway”.

Instead try, “I’m Outstanding!, and you?” even if you're not there

yet, even when you're having a bad day. Watch how fast it changes

your attitude, how you feel and the positive reaction you get from

others. It takes little shifts to make major changes. All of this leads to

successfully reaching your goals.

20

Page 30: Your Goals Are Set Now What?€¦ · Your Goals Are Set Now What? The Secret To Achieving Every Goal You Set You Have Been Told To Set Goals, Now Learn The Guaranteed Steps To Achieve

Stephen G Flecker

It is not only imperative to use a positive vocabulary when speaking

but when writing as well, especially when you are going to see it on a

regular basis, which leads us to the next step.

Writing your goals down. Start with a journal or calendar book that

you use.

You must also write them down on a nice piece of paper, put it in a

frame, keep it on your desk, hang one on your office door, keep a

copy by your bed. Put one on the refrigerator. Let the world see your

goals, share them with friends and family. Tell them WHY it's

important for you to achieve them. Ask them for their assistance in

keeping you accountable.

Reread your goals daily, remember WHY they are so critical for you

to achieve. Keep them in from of you at all times, take a picture use it

as a background on your smartphone, make it the screen saver on

your computer. Be proud of your goals and your future achievements.

Post them everywhere you’re able to. Create a goals board or poster,

get pictures of exactly what you are going for.

The picture of the exact new pool you want to be installed, or the

watch you are going to buy, the new house, car or vacation, computer

or smartphone. No matter how big or small get the pictures of the

specific item the right color, model, version, as many specifics as you

can. The best way is to go to the pool store, the dealer, travel agent

and get a quote, a brochure, or any other information you can and

21

Page 31: Your Goals Are Set Now What?€¦ · Your Goals Are Set Now What? The Secret To Achieving Every Goal You Set You Have Been Told To Set Goals, Now Learn The Guaranteed Steps To Achieve

The Secret To Achieving Every Goal You Set

put that on your poster. Then hang it somewhere you can see it every

day.

Remember to update all copies as you update and revise your goals.

Keep moving them around to different locations so you keep it fresh

Success Leaves Clues

You are now ready to start on the journey of goal achievement.

Setting goals properly is important in achieving them but any goal,

big or small, correctly set or not can be achieved when you follow a

proven process. Success leaves clues. You can learn by trial and error

over a long period of time, or you can learn from someone who has

already done it and follow the same steps.

OPE, other people’s experience, someone has been where you are

now and figured out how to get to the next level. Take their

experience, their successes, and failures to shorten your learning

curve. One of the most common traits among all successful people is

the ability to make decisions fast. Just making decisions is a huge start

for many, as they usually over-analyze everything in an unconscious

way to procrastinate and delay the decision process.

If you don’t decide one way or the other you can't be wrong.

However, remember, you can't be right either.

The Secret To Achieving Every Goal You Set

Paralysis by over-analysis; does this describe you?

This affects many more people than you think and the only way to

get over this dreaded affliction is to just make a decision. If it’s

wrong, make another decision and if that’s wrong make a different

decision. If you still don’t reach the desired objective, make another

choice. Get the idea? Just keep going until you succeed. I could have

said “don’t stop until you succeed” but what would your

subconscious have heard?

Make sure you do not fall into the trap of insanity as Einstein

defined, Insanity is doing the same thing every time and expecting

different results.

Do not be afraid of failure. As long as you learn something it is an

education, not a failure. The only thing you should be afraid of is

missing out by not taking a shot. FOMO, fear of missing out, when

you can create the feeling of a greater fear of missing out, than failing,

you will be able to move forward and achieve more than ever before.

Why Comes Before How

Before you think about how to achieve any goal or achievement the

most important thing is to know why you must achieve it. Once you

know that, very often the strategy, system, or even the exact answer

will present itself.

The best way I know to express how important WHY is to tell a

hypothetical story.

While reading the following story, put yourself right in the middle of

it. Believe it; Experience it with sounds and color. Adjust the story to

match your picture of the perfect life. Think about your answers to

the following questions at the end of each section before you move on

to the next.

You are married to your dream partner, your best friend in life. Your

family consists of you, your spouse, your 3 children, ages 3, 5, and 8.

You just moved into your dream home or condo, on the perfect street

or building. The kids wanted a dog and you found the most adorable,

well-behaved puppy that ever existed. Close your eyes and picture

yourself there.

Now it’s Monday morning before you leave for work, you kiss

everyone goodbye, take your coffee, and leave. Great day at work

25

Page 35: Your Goals Are Set Now What?€¦ · Your Goals Are Set Now What? The Secret To Achieving Every Goal You Set You Have Been Told To Set Goals, Now Learn The Guaranteed Steps To Achieve

The Secret To Achieving Every Goal You Set

everything goes your way, you leave to go home. As you’re pulling up

to the house, you hear sirens, see flashing lights and fire engines.

The fire police tell you the road is blocked and only let you in when

you tell them your address.

OMG! You realize it’s your house. You jump out of the car.

You see your spouse and kids and run to them. “What happened?”

you ask.

“I was making dinner with the kids, got distracted and I don’t know,

the next thing I smell smoke. A fire started, and we heard the smoke

detectors, I grabbed the kids and ran out of the house, with the

puppy, close behind. Thank God the neighbor called the fire

department and they arrived just before you got home. I can’t believe

how fast it spread.”

They then go on to tell you that they grabbed a few things, but, the

big water bottle that you were saving money in for a vacation, was

still in the house. You just started collecting so there were about 60

single dollar bills in it.

26

Page 36: Your Goals Are Set Now What?€¦ · Your Goals Are Set Now What? The Secret To Achieving Every Goal You Set You Have Been Told To Set Goals, Now Learn The Guaranteed Steps To Achieve

Stephen G Flecker

1st Question: Do you run into the Burning house to get the $60.?

I’m going to assume you answered “NO WAY”, without hesitating.

You probably didn’t even think about it. It’s kind of a no brainer.

Run into a burning building for $60 bucks, that’s nuts, impossible.

Next version of the same story:

Its Monday morning you kiss everyone goodbye after breakfast, jump

in the car and leave. You have a great day at work. Things just seem

to fall into place. 5 pm comes before you know it and you head

home. As you turn on to your street, you see flashing lights and hear

sirens. The fire police are directing traffic and tell you the address of

the fire. It’s your house! You jump out of the car, see your spouse and

kids and run to them. “What happened?” you asked. “I was making

dinner with the kids, got distracted and the fire started, I heard the

smoke detectors, grabbed all 3 kids and ran out with the puppy.

Your spouse then says that they had gone to the bank and withdrew

the $2500 in cash to finish paying off the contractors who had done

some work. They had not been paid yet and the envelope with the

cash was still on the kitchen table. The flames are everywhere. You

can feel the extreme heat from the fire.

2nd Question: Do you run into the burning house to get the $2500

in cash?

27

Page 37: Your Goals Are Set Now What?€¦ · Your Goals Are Set Now What? The Secret To Achieving Every Goal You Set You Have Been Told To Set Goals, Now Learn The Guaranteed Steps To Achieve

The Secret To Achieving Every Goal You Set

Depending on your financial situation this question might have taken

a second or two, or more. You might have thought about running in,

but that’s crazy, its only money, still no way to run into a burning

building. How would you? It’s impossible, it's nuts, at least everyone

is safe.

The last Version of the story changes one more time. Stay in the

moment. Everything is the same as the first 2 stories EXCEPT this

time when you asked your partner what happens they tell the same

story about how it started. You look around and ask where the little

one is, you see the 2 older kids and the puppy but not your youngest

child! Where’s the baby? Everyone starts looking around frantically,

nowhere to be found. OH MY GOD! Is your youngest child still in

the house?

What do you do?

28

Page 38: Your Goals Are Set Now What?€¦ · Your Goals Are Set Now What? The Secret To Achieving Every Goal You Set You Have Been Told To Set Goals, Now Learn The Guaranteed Steps To Achieve

Stephen G Flecker

3rd Question: Do you run into the house to get your baby? (or if you

don’t like kids your partner, and if you don’t like people, your pet).

I have told this exact story and have asked the same questions to

hundreds of people to help them understand that WHY comes before

How. The answers never change. So, if you are like the 100’s

(possibly 1,000’s by now) before you, before you even finished

reading the 3rd question you were already running into the house.

Not thinking about HOW to do it, just knowing you must save your

baby, whoever it was in that house, with no regard for your own

safety or life. Failure was not an option. There was no fear.

That’s because when your WHY is strong enough the HOW will

figure itself out.

When it was $60 the thoughts were it's impossible. Why would I?

How can I run into a burning building?

For the 2nd question, $2500 cash is a lot of money to just let burn up.

You probably gave it a few seconds of thought about how, but then

came to your senses. Still, no way, to make it happen.

Then, the 3rd version, a LIFE was at stake someone you care about,

someone you love. The HOW never came in to play. You just knew

it had to be done; Your WHY was more important, more powerful,

than any consequence, then the fear of failure.

29

The Secret To Achieving Every Goal You Set

What does this all mean in the quest to achieve your goals? You must

create your WHY, you must figure out what is a must for you to

achieve the goal you have set. When your WHY is the most

important part of the equation, nothing can stop you. No challenge

or obstacle can get in your way.

(See WHY worksheet)

Now What

Your Goals are set. They are SMART. You wrote them down, and

you used all positive terms with positive vocabulary. Everywhere you

look they are written or hanging in front of you. Everyone you know,

knows what your goals are and when you will achieve them. Most

importantly, you even know WHY you must achieve these now. You

are more afraid of not getting it, than you are of making a mistake or

failing. SO, Now What?

“Most impossible goals can be met simply by

breaking them down into bite-size chunks,

writing them down, believing them and going full

speed ahead as if they were routine.”

The Steps to Guarantee Goal Achievement Success.

Build up to confirm. Breakdown to achieve. Most people tend to

overestimate what they can achieve in a day but underestimate what

can be achieved long term. There is a simple way to confirm both

lengths of that equation. As mentioned earlier, it is always better to

start as far out into the future as possible. Once you feel you have a

great SMART goal, then you either break it down or build it up.

If it’s a goal of fewer than 20 years, first build it up to at least 40 years

and confirm that’s where you want to be or would like to be at that

time in your life. Then once you have confirmed or adjusted that

goal, then step two is to break it all the way down to as close to a

daily or even hourly goal as you can.

(See the build-up break down worksheet)

Remember your goals are not carved in stone. In fact, they should be

constantly reviewed, corrected, and adjusted.

The smaller the steps the better in achieving any goal. Crawl before

you walk. Walk before you run. One step at a time. One foot in front

of the other. You need to break down your goals so that the hardest

of goals seem simple.

This may seem difficult at times. You will have the entire goal in your

mind and that will tend to overshadow the simple tasks neccesary.

33

Page 43: Your Goals Are Set Now What?€¦ · Your Goals Are Set Now What? The Secret To Achieving Every Goal You Set You Have Been Told To Set Goals, Now Learn The Guaranteed Steps To Achieve

The Secret To Achieving Every Goal You Set

Take a football team whose ultimate goal is to win the Superbowl.

Before spring training even starts, the team must consider the draft.

Before that, they must analyze current players on the team and

potential players that may be available. In spring training, the team

must figure what plays and players work best. As with goals this is

constantly reviewed, corrected, and adjusted.

Players are cut, get injured or traded. The season starts out with a

goal to make the Super Bowl. To win enough games to win the

division. They don’t focus on that; they don’t even think about next

week's game.

They typically do not even think about winning the current game.

What is critically important, the only thing to focus on, the play at

hand.

If the offense is on the field let’s just get 4 or 5 yards on this play.

When they can average 4 or 5 yards per play, there is never a 4th

Down or even 3rd and long. The punting team can stay on the

sidelines. When on defense, hold the other teams' offense to less than

3 yards per play. Make them punt every time.

That’s how you win the game, win the division, win the playoffs, win

the Superbowl. 1 Play at a time, 1 matchup at a time. That is how

you achieve your goals 1 day at a time, 1 play at a time.

“Setting goals is the first step in turning the

invisible into the visible.”

Anthony Robbins

34

Page 44: Your Goals Are Set Now What?€¦ · Your Goals Are Set Now What? The Secret To Achieving Every Goal You Set You Have Been Told To Set Goals, Now Learn The Guaranteed Steps To Achieve

Little and Big All The Same

If your goals are big or small, tiny or HUGE, the strategy is the same,

it never changes. Big goals are broken into smaller parts and the

smaller parts are broken down into simple steps. Small goals are

broken into smaller steps. Keep splitting them up until they are so

small it’s you feel it is a joke to make it happen.

Next comes the fun part.

You need to commit to and TAKE Massive Action. You need to

create a M.A.P, a Massive Action Plan.

Anytime, you want to go somewhere as quickly and efficiently as

possible, you use a map. Just like with a GPS, the first thing you need

to know is where you are starting from. This is the time for a reality

check, no BS, be completely honest with yourself as to where you are

currently. If you don’t know where your starting from you won’t

know how to start. Assess your current situation, all aspects, anything

that has anything to do with achieving your goals.

The next step is to look at exactly where you want to be. It should be

in line with your goal, but there may be different outcomes. For

example, the goal may be to get something to eat or to not be hungry

anymore. The map is going to take you to a restaurant or

supermarket.

35

Page 45: Your Goals Are Set Now What?€¦ · Your Goals Are Set Now What? The Secret To Achieving Every Goal You Set You Have Been Told To Set Goals, Now Learn The Guaranteed Steps To Achieve

The Secret To Achieving Every Goal You Set

Obviously, it is critically important to be specific here. If you told the

GPS you were hungry, where would it take you? Nowhere. What if

you said “take me to the restaurant?” Still nowhere, it has no idea

where to go. How about, “take me to Chinese food.”

The GPS may give you some local choices but still won't take you

anywhere. I think you get the picture, without a specific street address

the GPS does not know what to do. It also needs the exact location of

where you are starting. It is Very Simple If you want to reach your

goal Bals, you must be Extremely Specific.

You have to have your exact starting point and your exact finish.

Creating the MAP is next. Do you go right, left or straight? All those

little steps that your goal was broken into, are going to make up the

MAP. One step at a time, flexibility is important, as you begin to

follow the plan, adjust accordingly, review, react, and revise.

As you move towards your goal things change. You may change your

mind, the situation or things around you change. There may be a

setback, just like your vehicle's GPS when you miss or make a wrong

turn, it says Recalculating. A pilot flying an airplane from New York

to California is off course 90% of the time, the autopilot is constantly

correcting for wind changes, storms, other planes, Atmosphere or

anything else that may alter the course.

36

Page 46: Your Goals Are Set Now What?€¦ · Your Goals Are Set Now What? The Secret To Achieving Every Goal You Set You Have Been Told To Set Goals, Now Learn The Guaranteed Steps To Achieve

Stephen G Flecker

In the end, the plane lands at the right airport, On time. (some

airlines are better at this than others).

It may even land at the wrong airport if there are major issues that

occur, but that doesn’t mean failure, just another obstacle to

overcome and correct. As long as your MAP has the desired end you

will get there if you do not give up.

Sometimes it is necessary to retrace our steps going backward and

figure out where we made the wrong turn. Then make another choice

or decision to get back on the right path. If that doesn’t work, choose

another option, and if that doesn’t work choose again. If that doesn’t

get you there try, something else. When do you stop?

You don’t, not until it works.

Remember, doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a

different outcome, is the definition of insanity. So, keep adjusting the

approach until it works. One step at a time, that’s what is important.

“Discipline is the bridge between goals and

accomplishment.”

Jim Rohn

Being Accountable

What you do daily and who you share it with is an important part of

achieving your goals.

Keep a journal, recording what works and what doesn’t. It is a great

way to adapt and revise as you go along. It is also another way to hold

yourself accountable.

Accountability is extremely critical in achieving everything in the

plan. When we are held accountable, we do things. Share your goals,

share your progress, and share what needs to be done on a regular

basis. If you have someone that can be completely objective and hold

you to your plan, awesome. If not, find someone, hire a coach, who

will not only help with accountability but also in every aspect of your

journey.

Checking your progress on a regular, frequent basis is a must.

As individuals, we tend to beat ourselves up or punish ourselves for

not doing or accomplishing what we set out for no matter how large

or small. I can't believe I was 5 minutes late. I'm such an idiot, how

did I get that wrong? What a jerk I am, for missing that easy thing.

What we fail to do is celebrate our successes.

For some crazy reason, we all expect to be perfect. When you do

something right celebrate, give yourself a pat on the back. When we

39

Page 49: Your Goals Are Set Now What?€¦ · Your Goals Are Set Now What? The Secret To Achieving Every Goal You Set You Have Been Told To Set Goals, Now Learn The Guaranteed Steps To Achieve

The Secret To Achieving Every Goal You Set

get rewarded for doing something, we tend to do it more. No matter

how simple or expected it is, take a moment to celebrate and enjoy

your success.

When the success warrants it, reward yourself. Depending on the

level of success, make the reward commensurate. An extra piece of

dessert, or maybe a massage. A day off to relax and rejuvenate or

anything that you feel is a gift or treat.

Set your rewards daily, weekly, promise yourself when you do X, you

get Y.

To often, we don’t give ourselves credit for the good choices we’ve

made. Remember to give yourself credit for the things you’re doing

well.

Success Leaves Clues Part Two

You can forge your own path and journey into the unknown, or you

can follow others that have been there before you. They have already

figured it out. Not everything works for everyone, but you have a

significantly better chance of success when you imitate success.

We already do this every day, here is a simple example; You sit down

at the dinner table, in front of you are some shiny silver things,

they're all a little different. On the table is also a bowl of soup, a

salad, and the main course. How do you know which utensil to use

for the soup? You copied the others at the table a long time ago. Or

how about going for a job interview, do you walk in blind or do some

research about the company before you get there? Do you wear

everyday casual clothes or a suit? If you think these are common sense

things to do, then why wouldn’t you follow the actions and activities

of a successful person.

Napoleon Hill wrote “Think and Grow Rich” based on this simple

principle.

Think and Grow Rich is considered THE #1 most famous success /

personal development book of all time. It was written by Napoleon

Hill in 1937 and has sold over 100 million copies worldwide.

The premise of the book is simple:

41

Page 51: Your Goals Are Set Now What?€¦ · Your Goals Are Set Now What? The Secret To Achieving Every Goal You Set You Have Been Told To Set Goals, Now Learn The Guaranteed Steps To Achieve

The Secret To Achieving Every Goal You Set

Riches begin with a state of mind. If we want to get rich, we must

first change our minds so that we become, as Napoleon Hill calls it,

success conscious.

He says that we must literally THINK ourselves to success.

The term riches, by the way, could mean any form of wealth like

money, happiness, healthy relationships, business success, etc.

Undoubtedly, obstacles and barriers will pop up. That is life, you can

plan and prepare forever and they will still appear. The only thing

that you can control is your mindset, your absolute belief, and faith

that you will achieve the desired result.

We already learned a belief is something that we know to be true. We

all have them. We develop them from our earliest years and

experiences. Beliefs come from our parents, teachers, friends,

environment, the internet and just about anywhere you can think of.

Our Belief Systems control our actions, everything we DO or

DON’T do.

Beliefs can be empowering or Disempowering. Unfortunately, they

tend to be much more of the latter. From the time we are born we’re

told all the things we cannot do. According to a UCLA study, a baby

hears the word NO over 400 times a day. That does not include

DON’T or STOP or any other negative words.

42

Page 52: Your Goals Are Set Now What?€¦ · Your Goals Are Set Now What? The Secret To Achieving Every Goal You Set You Have Been Told To Set Goals, Now Learn The Guaranteed Steps To Achieve

Stephen G Flecker

You already know that the brain cannot process a negative command

or statement? If you say to your child “be careful, don't spill your

milk” as they carry the glass full of milk across the kitchen the child

has to actually think of spilling the milk so that he/she can take the

necessary action not to do it.

We tend to get what we focus on. So by the child thinking of spilling

milk, that is often what tends to happen. Which normally results in a

loud “But I told you NOT to spill that milk”. So, the moral of this

story is, ask for what you want, not what you don't want.

“Ask, and you will receive. Seek, and you will find.”

Matthew 7:7

Belief Cycle

Your Belief Cycle can work as both a Success or Failure Cycle.

It all starts with either a Disempowering belief or Empowering one.

It's as simple as, if you think you can or you think you can't your

right.

Let's use the example of meeting new people when you think you are

a shy person and you are no good at socializing, or speaking to people

in general.

That’s your Disempowering Belief. I cannot socialize or make friends.

The belief cycle has 4 parts that affect what and how you do

everything. Box 1 your beliefs, box 2 your potential, box 3 the actions

you take, and box 4 your results.

The Belief Cycle

45

Page 55: Your Goals Are Set Now What?€¦ · Your Goals Are Set Now What? The Secret To Achieving Every Goal You Set You Have Been Told To Set Goals, Now Learn The Guaranteed Steps To Achieve

The Secret To Achieving Every Goal You Set

Put that disempowering belief about your inability to make friends in

box 1. Now move to box 2. What type of potential do you have at

meeting new people when you know you are a shy person who does

not know how to socialize? Obviously, your potential is severely

limited.

Now with limited potential, you move to box 3, taking action. When

you know it is probably not going to work anyway, how much action

do you take? Limited or No potential, typically leads to little or NO

action. Let's say you were invited to a party that starts at 8.

If you go at all, you will probably show up late, stand in a corner,

waiting for someone to come to you, and when no one does, you

leave early and tell yourself how the party sucked. Moving to the 4th

box, your results were exactly as you thought they would be.

Surprised you had a horrible time. You didn’t talk to anyone, were

bored, and think to yourself what a waste of time. You tell yourself

you knew you shouldn't have even gone. Next time you may not even

bother. A simple equation, when you take NO action, you get NO

results. Is that a good result? Or bad? You’re initial response, of

course it's bad. But, here's the crazy part.

If you're like most people, then you like to be right, if not all the

time, as often as possible. Have you ever told someone that

something bad would happen, and when it did, you said, “See I told

46

Page 56: Your Goals Are Set Now What?€¦ · Your Goals Are Set Now What? The Secret To Achieving Every Goal You Set You Have Been Told To Set Goals, Now Learn The Guaranteed Steps To Achieve

Stephen G Flecker

you it wouldn’t work?” Your happy with a poor result, as long as your

right.

So, your Belief system said it would be a waste of time to go to the

party, a disaster. Your result proved you right. And it feels good to be

right.

That makes your result, although it seems bad, a good result.

The worst part is that it strengthens the disempowering belief. Next

time an invitation arrives, you will probably arrive later and leave

earlier, if you go at all.

That’s how the downward spiral begins and gets worse with each

cycle. How can you stop such a negative situation? You must start by

changing your beliefs. It is important to understand that nothing has

any meaning except the meaning which we give it. In the previous

example, we had a person who felt they could not make friends or

socialize, so they behaved accordingly.

Now we know that human potential is truly unlimited. That same

individual now sets a goal to make friends, no matter what. They

must change their belief system by thinking about all the times they

have spoken to others, recall memories of old friends and family or

communicating in work situations.

Now add in some experiences they have observed of others who are

extremely social and have many friends. What do they do? How do

47

Page 57: Your Goals Are Set Now What?€¦ · Your Goals Are Set Now What? The Secret To Achieving Every Goal You Set You Have Been Told To Set Goals, Now Learn The Guaranteed Steps To Achieve

The Secret To Achieving Every Goal You Set

they act? The belief is now that socializing is just a simple skill like

everything else. Study it, practice it, and follow the steps.

To learn or accomplish anything is 20% mechanics, 80% mindset or

psychology.

Once the skills or mechanics are learned the rest is all in your head. I

will get back to that shortly. Let's go make some new friends. With

our new empowering belief system, we get invited to another party.

Instead of sneaking in late so no one notices us. Let's get their 15

minutes early. When we arrive first, and there is no one else there, it's

easy to speak to the host 1 on 1 (a comfortable setting) and ask if

there is anything we can do to help.

Then as guests arrive, we can introduce ourselves, say hi to each one

individually, again an easy situation. Help them with their jackets or

get them a drink. As the party fills up you will then have a bunch of

people to go back to and continue conversations. Stay till the end,

possibly exchange numbers with a few people that have things in

common with you, and this time the party is a huge success.

Following the cycle, you start by believing you can and are a social

person who everyone wants to meet and speak to, box 1. Moving to

box 2 with Huge, unlimited potential, nothing can stop you or get in

the way. You might as well be running for the most popular person at

the party, in the town, heck, why stop there, the state.

48

Page 58: Your Goals Are Set Now What?€¦ · Your Goals Are Set Now What? The Secret To Achieving Every Goal You Set You Have Been Told To Set Goals, Now Learn The Guaranteed Steps To Achieve

Stephen G Flecker

With that kind of unstoppable attitude, you take MASSIVE Action,

box 3, doing anything and everything you can imagine having an

amazing time at the event. Not meeting and speaking to people, is

not even an option anymore. How ridiculous to even think that way

anymore. Moving to the Results box 4, you have incredible results an

extraordinary time. The BEST party you have ever been too.

Confirming and strengthening the belief that you are a social

GIANT, your now empowering belief.

Going back to our example, if you have never had a problem with

making friends or having fun at a party, you know how simple this is,

almost sounds silly, but for someone who has a hard time with it, it

can be as scary as jumping out of a plane, or taking an important test,

or getting in front of a room of 1,000 people and making a speech.

That was me, standing in the corner. Not anymore.

“If you want to reach a goal, you must see the

reaching in your mind before you actually arrive

at your goals.”

The 80/20 Rule

Accomplishing anything, no matter how simple or complex, always

follows the same formula. Once the skills or mechanics are learned

the rest is all in your head. 80% of completing the task is your

mindset.

Your Belief System.

Think of something, anything that you have never done and could

never possibly do or even attempt. Here are 2 examples I use all the

time; rebuilding a car engine. No idea how to do it. Find someone

who does. Do you know what a wrench is? Can you pick it up and

use it? Have you ever seen a screwdriver?

Now, if the mechanic shows you where to turn, and where to attach

various parts, can you follow his direction? Of course, you can do it.

That’s the 20% part, the mechanics.

If you don’t believe you can do it, or if you thought to yourself, that’s

impossible I can't rebuild a motor, then you would not look for

guidance and never attempt it. Failing before you even started.

2nd example, an even more extreme example. (as long as you’re not a

surgeon) Let's perform a surgical procedure, removing a kidney.

Totally Crazy right? But what if we break it down. There are many

51

Page 61: Your Goals Are Set Now What?€¦ · Your Goals Are Set Now What? The Secret To Achieving Every Goal You Set You Have Been Told To Set Goals, Now Learn The Guaranteed Steps To Achieve

The Secret To Achieving Every Goal You Set

parts here that will stop most people dead in their tracks. For starters-

no medical background, the sight of blood.

However, can you cut a piece of steak? Can you carve up a turkey for

Thanksgiving? Can you sew a button on a shirt?

Break it down. Follow the steps. Find a top surgeon, he can tell you

where to cut, what to move, where to stick your hands and what to

feel for. Cut out the kidney, stitch the patient up and “Wah Laa” you

just performed surgery.

Not on me, thank you very much, but it's possible. But, if you think

it's impossible, then you are right, and you will never be able to do it.

Your mindset and belief systems, have everything to do with

accomplishing anything, especially your goals. Confident and

unwavering in your abilities and determination. It all starts with your

mindset.

Tracking Progress

While on this exciting journey to goal success, you must constantly

track your progress.

That is how a GPS corrects the route, it’s how the autopilot gets the

plane to its destination. There are all kinds of ways and systems to do

this. Depending on the goal, you can apply different strategies.

If it’s a weight achievement goal, start with a scale, and record your

weight on a periodic but consistent basis. You also need to do this at

the same time every day to create an accurate pattern.

Based on the results you can and must review and revise your plan.

Keep a log of your daily exercise and food intake, how much water

you are drinking. Use a smartphone and set reminders as often as

necessary. Have an alarm go off at the same time every day to step on

the scale. Set a buzzer to go off every hour to make sure you have had

another glass of water.

Schedule time to exercise or just take a 10-minute walk, or both.

Depending on where I am personally in my life, I have had as many

as 40 + alarms and reminders daily. Sometimes, the alarms can be

annoying to others, but when they ask how I always achieve what I

set out to, the response I get back is usually, “that’s annoying, what a

pain.”

The Secret To Achieving Every Goal You Set

Not surprisingly they don’t ever seem to get where they want to be.

Success takes work. You do not become a professional athlete

practicing your sport when it's convenient and you have some extra

time.

When you keep a log or record of your progress you can easily see any

trends that may be developing or any patterns that can be adjusted,

expanded, or eliminated. The more detailed the record-keeping the

better.

Writing a simple number on a calendar is good, recording a note with

the number is better, keeping a journal with detailed facts of

everything that is happening is best. Think of it as keeping score. In

Baseball you can keep track of just the runs scored by each team. Or

keep track of each batter, each pitch, how many pitches, each out,

where the ball is hit, and more. The more you track the easier things

become.

What should you keep track of?

Certainly, start with any successes and remember to celebrate and

reward yourself. This becomes very helpful in times of struggle or

stress. Record anything that can be measured.

You can borrow the confidence and emotional lift that you

experienced during your last triumph. Record obstacles and barriers

that pop up unexpectedly. How did you handle it? What did you do

56

Page 66: Your Goals Are Set Now What?€¦ · Your Goals Are Set Now What? The Secret To Achieving Every Goal You Set You Have Been Told To Set Goals, Now Learn The Guaranteed Steps To Achieve

Stephen G Flecker

to overcome the situation? If you didn’t overcome it what did you try

and what are you going to do differently. Discuss your progress with

your accountability partner or Coach.

A second opinion is always good to have as well as someone else

giving you kudos when deserved, can be another satisfying moment.

Asking for help or advice is always a good thing to do when needed.

Your goals are ever-changing and evolving, circumstances change and

you need to be ready, able and willing to revise on the go. When life

throws a curveball, for good or bad, adjust your stance and swing

away, but record what and why it changed and the results.

When discussing these situations with your coach or accountability

partner, the better account you have to refer too, the easier it is to

analyze and adapt.

“I can’t change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust

my sails to always reach my destination.”

Jimmy Dean

Revisit and Revise and Rewrite

The real success is not in achieving the goal, but who you become on

the journey.

You are always pushing a little harder, a little further. When a goal is

achieved, you just keep going, keep building, keep growing.

In life you either Grow or Die, there is no standing still. You are

always revisiting your goals, revising them, rewriting them. Then you

are also coming up with completely new goals and new journeys to

explore and expand.

Once the Mindset of success becomes standard and commonplace,

once your belief system only knows success, there is no end to the

mountains you can climb the challenges you can overcome and the

people you can help. Paying it forward is the most rewarding thing

you can do in this life.

Sharing your success and helping others to experience their own

growth and successes is an amazing feeling. To be able to see the

transformation that people go through, is life-altering. It becomes an

addiction, the more people you can help to grow, the better you feel.

With goals as with life, becoming comfortable is actually not a good

thing.

59

Page 69: Your Goals Are Set Now What?€¦ · Your Goals Are Set Now What? The Secret To Achieving Every Goal You Set You Have Been Told To Set Goals, Now Learn The Guaranteed Steps To Achieve

The Secret To Achieving Every Goal You Set

Understand we all strive to be comfortable, a nicer car, a bigger

house, more toys.

The quality of your life is determined by the amount of uncertainty

and uncomfortability you can deal with. No matter how successful

you become no matter how comfortable things are you will get bored.

There is only so much golf you can play, cocktails on the beach you

can enjoy, before things get mundane and ordinary. We, as humans,

must continue to grow. We need to be challenged. That’s why sports

and games play such a big role in people's lives. Watching

professional sports, participating in everything from archery and

bowling to X-country skiing and Yachting. Monopoly, poker, and

even solitaire, everyone likes a challenge, we all want to compete, to

win. Setting and achieving your goals is a way to win every day.

“Accept the challenge so that you can feel the

Exhilaration of Victory”

George S. Patton

60

Page 70: Your Goals Are Set Now What?€¦ · Your Goals Are Set Now What? The Secret To Achieving Every Goal You Set You Have Been Told To Set Goals, Now Learn The Guaranteed Steps To Achieve

Accountability Part Two

When someone asks me what the single most important step to

achieving your goals is, without a doubt, it is being accountable to

yourself and others. When we are accountable, we make things

happen, you can't procrastinate, you can’t drop the ball, and you

have to get it done.

That is the single largest reason why people DO NOT share their

goals.

When no one knows what you are planning you cannot look like a

failure. You do not have to push yourself; anything result becomes

acceptable. Finding a true accountability partner can sometimes

present a challenge as you need someone who is truly objective and

unbiased. Someone who will tell you what you need to hear you, even

if it hurts, not what you want to hear. Friends, family, coworkers,

tend to soften the things they say. They say what they think you want

to hear, or worse, what THEY want you to hear. They do not want to

make you mad or upset. They may have their own agenda.

A coach has only one goal, one mission, that’s whatever your goal is,

whatever it is you tell them you want to accomplish.

61

Page 71: Your Goals Are Set Now What?€¦ · Your Goals Are Set Now What? The Secret To Achieving Every Goal You Set You Have Been Told To Set Goals, Now Learn The Guaranteed Steps To Achieve

The Secret To Achieving Every Goal You Set

A coach is your personal GPS for life. They will keep you on the right

path. The coach specializes in holding you accountable. A coach does

not wait for you to come to them, they take the initiative.

The coach provides clarity and will help you to visualize your goals. A

coach will help you anticipate obstacles, to take massive action,

eliminating procrastination. Coaching is a one to one activity that

improves the ability of an individual to perform a specific task. A

coach helps to reveal the gap between the desired outcome and the

current situation, and once that gap is discovered to close the gap as

quickly and efficiently as possible. Coaching is not therapy,

counseling or rah-rah motivation, but an active part of learning,

developing, and achieving.

Life will happen and very often it seems to get in the way, you will

get sidetracked, distracted, even discouraged. Your accountability

partner or coach will get you back on track and keep you there.

“If ever you find yourself doubting that you can

make it through a challenge, simply think back to

everything you have overcome in the past.”

Karen Salmansohn

Positive language can literally change your brain. Yes, that’s right—

positive words like “peace,” “love” and “compassion” strengthen areas

of the brain’s frontal lobes, and promote cognitive function. In

simple terms, hearing and using positive language can make you feel

great—physically, mentally and emotionally. On the flip side,

negative language can block the brain’s natural de-stress mechanisms.

So, as well as adding some sparkly positive words into your everyday

language—like “certainly,” “great” and “definitely”—it’s worth

taking a look at phrases you might be using inadvertently and giving

them a polish, too.

These 11 everyday phrases can easily be replaced, giving your

vocabulary an instant positivity boost.

Every Day Positive Language

1. Why not? → Sounds good

2. No problem → Definitely!

3. Can’t complain → Everything’s going well, thanks

These phrases are meant to be positive - but the human brain has a

negative bias, and subconsciously brings up all of the reasons not to

do something, problems, or complains when processing these words.

69

Page 79: Your Goals Are Set Now What?€¦ · Your Goals Are Set Now What? The Secret To Achieving Every Goal You Set You Have Been Told To Set Goals, Now Learn The Guaranteed Steps To Achieve

The Secret To Achieving Every Goal You Set

4. I’m exhausted → I need to rest

Flipping the phrase to include a solution leaves both the speaker and

the listener with a better taste in their mouths.

Positive Language at Work

5. I forgot → I’ll make sure to set a reminder

Again, focusing on what can be done will help the people around you

expect a positive result.

6. Unfortunately, it will be impossible to finish the project on

time because of the problems some people are causing with

submitting their work late. → Can everyone turn in their portion

of the project by Thursday so that we can complete the work on

time and hit the deadline?

Email culture provides the perfect opportunity to work on positive

language, as you can edit your words before sending them out to

colleagues and clients. Look out for negative words like

“unfortunately,” “impossible” and “problems” as flags for sentences to

revise

7. Constructive criticism → Feedback

The words you use to frame your feedback can have a significant

impact on how it is received. To add to the positive vibe, healthy

70

portions of compliments for achievements will help your colleagues

take your comments on board.

Positive Language at Home

8. Don’t throw the ball inside! → Please take the ball outside. or

9. Don’t … → I like it when..

Telling children (and adults, too!) what you want them to do rather

than what you don’t want them to do puts the focus on the desired

action and ups your chances of a positive outcome.

10. I missed you so much! → It’s so great to see you!

While absence certainly does make the heart grow fonder, reunions

can be a time to rejoice in the present rather than relating negative

emotions from the past.

11. No! → I know you like ice cream, but eating too much isn’t

healthy.

Unless you’re dealing with a serious safety issue, for example near a

road or a swimming pool, explaining the reason behind your “no”

helps children feel respected and included. As a guide, think about

how you’d like your boss to speak to you.
