Students who have success at this carnival may gain selection/qualification to the Mid Richmond Swimming Carnival which will be held next week.

P&C MeetingThe first meeting of the Parents and Citizens Association will be held in the staffroom at school, commencing at 6:30pm next Monday 11 February. All families are invited and encouraged to attend. The P&C has a focus on better supporting the needs of students attending the school, which includes fundraising, canteen, uniforms and other matters. Where possible meetings are concluded by 8:00pm.

Bus Bay – Drop and Kiss ZoneLast week I received communication from Richmond Valley Council that further works will proceed on our new bus bay in coming weeks. This will include a dividing fence between the road and path as well as seating in the bus bay. Signage will also be revamped and line marking as necessary. The Council Ranger will then visit to ‘educate’ parents on the correct use of the newly established bus zone and drop-off/collection point for parents.

Please be reminded that U-Turns are not the best options for parents in front of this area. Please access the area in the direction of the current bus flow (Pacific Highway – Whyratta Street – Woodburn Street and away).

2019 Surprises – Murals and Playground

Over the school holidays the first three of four murals were painted around the school. These replaced some older and dated murals that had certainly stood the test of time but were worthy of replacement. This week the support class outdoor play space has been getting a makeover, which has included the installation of a sand pit and therapeutic swing. We will add a table and seating and hopefully some shade so this area can be used as a passive play zone during lunch and recess breaks from class.

Book Packs and General Contributions

Thanks to the families who have made these payments already. We work to keep costs

at a minimum for families and certainly spend far more that the school recoups. As a rule of thumb the book pack fee of $40 is based on ‘one dollar per week’ of the school year, while the general contribution has remained at $20 per student ($40 per family) for many years. Text books, online learning subscriptions and the array of incident classroom resources certainly cost more and I am sure all families recognise this, thus the positive support we receive each year toward this cost.

Until next newsletter…..

Clean Up Australia Day Clean Up Australia Day will be held at school on Friday 1 March.

Woodburn Public School P&C #2019#

- New faces means new ideas, new contributions, new energy, new inspiration- Why would I want to be involved with the P&C? * It’s FUN and helpful, challenging and rewarding

* It’s a great way to meet people *An excellent way to get involved in the school & your kids lives

*Just to be a voice and help in the decision making Just some things we do; -Mother’s/Father’s day gift stalls (A little $5 stall where the kids chose a gift) -Bunnings BBQ’s (An excellent fundraiser because it isn’t taking from the same community/parents’ pocket, but needs people donating their time) -Golf Day (Is one of our BEST fundraisers and has been running for many years! Another good one for the wider community and not just parents pockets!) -Colour Fun Run (HUGE success! All about the kids & doing something crazy, exiting and different with the entire school! Lots of fun, prizes and as a bonus a great profit made) -Music Scholarship Program (We are lucky enough to offer music lessons to WPS students which is AMAZING, our Scholarship pays for 2 students placement in Term 4, entries by picture, story or song begin in term 3) -Christmas Raffle (Families donated goods which we delivered to the Neighbourhood Centre for those less fortunate and the P&C purchase 2 bikes & helmets as prizes for the children who donated to win!) -Canteen (Our canteen offers delicious and healthy “Meal Deals” for only $5 but this can only happen with enough parents who give their time on a Friday morning!) HELP NEEDED DESPERATELY!!! -School Uniforms (Our P&C ensure that School Uniforms are always in stock and able to be purchased from the School Office) Otherwise School Locker in the Ballina Homemaker Centre sells our whole range. -Year 6 Shirts The P&C designed & sourced an AMAZING Yr6 shirt (Available from the office) so our Senior Students can feel special & stand out! -School Hats (The P&C give every child a School Hat on their first day of School) -Year 6 Farewell The P&C donates $500 to the graduating Yr6 Class each year for their Farewell Celebrations -Contributing In the past the P&C has subsidised Book Packs & School Equipment, given money to students who are representing our school away at State Levels, purchased a new BBQ for the school & much more!

P&C Meetings are Week 3 & Week 8 of each term We would so love YOU to get involved in any way you can…
