Woodburn Public School Shane’s Stuff Staff have been exploring ways to make our school newsletter more school and student focussed. As a step forward classes will be contributing to our school newsletter more often. Please take note of this new inclusion and provide feedback to the school, especially when your feedback is positive. We really do want the newsletter to be worth reading, rather than left in bags and placed straight into the bin. SRC Election Results This week’s school assembly will be held on Friday afternoon commencing at 2:20pm. The assembly has been delayed as it will also include the ‘badging’ of our 2016 SRC members. Parents and community members are most welcome to attend and help us recognise this elected group of students. The assembly will be similar to our weekly assembly, with SRC badges presented near the end. Parents who are attending are welcome for the whole assembly, however it is anticipated that SRC badges will be presented at approximately 3:00pm. Whilst your full participation is welcome, parents or community members arriving late are asked to join the audience as quietly and respectfully as possible. I congratulate the elected students in advance. School Plan - Revised Strategic Directions With a fairly significant change in staff as we roll into the 2016 school year staff have been involved in a review of our school plan. This review highlighted a limited ownership of the existing plan and the directions being pursued. As a move forward, staff have looked at enhancing our plan to increase ownership and relevance to how our plan is being implemented. The school has revised our Strategic Directions in line with the Department of Educations State plan. • Fostering Quality• New and Better ways of deliveringThe revised school plan will be tabled for discussion at the next P&C meeting on 14 March.

School AttendanceIt goes without need to explain that students who attend school and engage with teaching and learning have the greatest chances of success at school. Every school day counts. Every teaching and learning opportunity, every sporting activity, every art or craft experience, as with every chance to learn about cultural diversity, history and geography.Students with a positive attendance pattern at school generally have greatest success and develop stronger social networks. Parents are urged to support children to attend school each and every day (even birthdays).

Until next week......

During literacy lessons, we have

been developing our reading. We

are focusing on our fluency, reading

to the punctuation, and our

comprehension of what we have

read.

We have also been working on

Sizzling Starters. These involve us

starting our stories with interesting

and exciting beginnings. We have

banned the boring because we

know we can do better!

In HSIE, we are working on the unit,

‘Australia You’re Standing In It’.

In this unit we are learning about

the different states and territories,

famous icons of Australia as well as

developing our mapping skills.

In 3/4B we have been learning about photography and some of

the techniques photographers use. Techniques we have explored

include; the rule of thirds, perspective, texture, simplicity and fill

the frame. We also experimented with the Photo Lab app, giving

our photos some interesting and fun effects.

At the last assembly, we shared some of the fantastic photos we had

taken in class and around the playground. Some of these amazing

photos can be seen on the screen in the school office.

“Mum, Mum. HELP!!!”. Mum ran into the little

girl’s room. As she entered she saw hands coming out

from under the bed.

By Jadon Rose

“The moon light was glittering through the window of Jesse’s bedroom. There was a sudden

shock in Jesse’s room that woke her up. There were

moans and groans coming from beneath her bed.

Mathematics We have been

consolidating our number and problem solving skills. We have been focusing on our mental strategies and

showing our thinking.
