Woodburn Public School Shane’s Stuff Dare I say it seems that we have been back at school for what is a moment in time, but the year is now well under way. Thank you to all families who have supported students to have such a positive return to school. Most students have settled quickly into class routines and are working within the dynamics of each classroom. Staff look forward to building this partnership further as the year unfolds. The 2016 school year has commenced with very positive and significant changes happening through the course of the year. Woodburn PS Suspension Procedures All schools are required to remind families of certain policies that relate to students on an annual basis. One of these is our Suspension Policy and Procedures. Please be aware of the following information. From time to time students will engage in behaviour which is unacceptable in our school setting. Where the behaviour is extreme or ongoing the situation may arise where it will be in the best interest of the school community and the student/s involved that the student be suspended from school for a period of time or even permanently excluded. The school has copies of the Department’s Guidelines for suspension and exclusion and these are available from the office. Parents and students are advised that suspension is immediate where a student: Is in possession of a suspected illegal drug Is violent or threatens serious physical violence Is in possession of a prohibited weapon. In other circumstances suspension will usually occur after there has been school based intervention of some kind. Parents are also advised that there are a number of staff who are available to assist students in management of their behaviour. Most students have settled quickly into class routines and are working within the dynamics of each classroom. Such assistance will hopefully prevent behaviour problems from progressing and resulting in suspensions or exclusion. Please feel encouraged to contact the following personnel for assistance if you have a concern about your child’s behaviour: Class Teachers, Support Teachers, Executive Staff and School Counsellor.Student behaviour when travelling to and from school can also be managed within the school’s Discipline Code (and/or Suspension Policy) if students demonstrate negative behaviours that reflect the school. We thank you in anticipation of your support as we promote the best behaviours of our students at all times.

P&C MeetingThe P&C Association met last Monday evening with a few fresh faces in attendance. Topics discussed at the meeting including air-conditioning of our school hall, revision of the school uniform policy, fundraising events and opportunities, areas for future school expenditure (covering the fixed equipment?), canteen and school operations to name a few.The P&C welcomes parents who are interested in having a say and sharing thoughts and ideas that are in the best interests of our school. If you would like to participate, the next meeting will be held on 14 March. Please put this date into your diary.

Supervision TimesA gentle reminder – No students should be at school before 8:55am or after 3:55pm each school day. Teachers are only on duty between these hours. Please respect this timeframe as they are the legal operating hours of the school. Parents are the responsible entity for children outside these hours.

School ValuesOur school continues to implement the Positive Behaviours for Learning initiative across our school. There implementation across our school in 2016 will be provided.

Meet the Teachers Special EventThere is a very informal BBQ and chat taking place in our playground this afternoon if anyone is able to join us. There will be a few extra snags on the barbie for anyone who can

attend at the last minute.Further opportunities to meet with teachers about student learning will be provided at a later time.

Book Pack Fees and General Contributions

Each year our school charges both a Book Pack Fee ($40 per child) and a General Contribution ($20 per child – maximum $40 per family) to help cover the costs associated with a child’s education. Based on a maximum $60 per child in fees we are asking for less than $1.50 per week across the school year. These contributions help meet the costs of text books (subsidised also by the P&C Association), stationary requirements, sporting equipment, art and craft supplies, photocopying and many other incidentals used throughout the school. As an incentive to families who do pay these contribution and book pack expenses there will be a prize draw at the end of Week 4. The prize is 1 pass to Movie World for 2 adults and 2 children.

Until next week......
