Woodburn Public School Shane’s Simplicities...... Farewell 2013 Today is the final day for students in the 2013 school year. It is the day that we do indeed kick Year 6 out for the very last time as members of our school. Whilst I share the sadness of staff at seeing these students leave we also know that they are taking a step into a bigger world. I hope that each member of this group has some strong and pivotal memories of their time in our school and that they will be able to look back and know that they were treated respectfully, given opportunities and encouraged to be ‘their’ best. We wish you (and any other students and families leaving us over the holiday period) all the very best in the future! 2014 Plans As mentioned at the Presentation Night we are still awaiting final enrolments for 2014 which will confirm our 5 class compositions. At this point in time we will be starting 2014 with 5 classes, with compositions to most likely be: Kindergarten (Early Stage 1), 2 classes comprising of Years 1 & 2 students (Stage 1), a Year 3 and 4 class (Stage 2) and a Year 5 & 6 class (Stage 3). Final plans and allocation of teachers has NOT occurred and depends heavily on whether this model is confirmed as our model of operation in the new year. 2014 is a very exciting opportunity as we will be welcoming new students across the school, but particularly the Kindergarten class which will commence it’s journey into the world of BIG School. Staff will return to school on Tuesday 28 January, with students set to return on Wednesday 29 January. Shane’s Simplicities...... Farewell 2013

Today is the final day for students in the 2013 school year. It is the day that we do indeed kick Year 6 out for the very last time as members of our school. Whilst I share the sadness of staff

at seeing these students leave we also know that they are taking a step into a bigger world. I hope that each member of this group has some strong and pivotal memories of their time in our school and that they will be able to look back and know that they were treated

respectfully, given opportunities and encouraged to be ‘their’ best. We wish you (and any other students and families leaving us over the holiday period) all the very best in the future!

2014 Plans As mentioned at the Presentation Night we are still awaiting final enrolments for 2014 which will confirm our 5 class compositions. At this point in time we will be starting 2014 with 5 classes, with compositions to most likely be:

Kindergarten (Early Stage 1), 2 classes comprising of Years 1 & 2 students (Stage 1), a Year 3 and 4 class (Stage 2) and a Year 5 & 6 class (Stage 3).

School Captains Last night it was announced that our school leadership team for 2014 will be:Captains: Amy Moylan and Katelyn WilliamsVice Captains: Kiah Waters and Clay WylieThese students have been advised of the high expectations placed upon them and we look forward to seeing them fulfil these expectations. Congratulations on your election.

A vote of thanks also goes out to our departing captains (Kiara Stothard and Sebastian Fletcher) and vice captains (Jasmine Clarke and Ashleigh Williams) for all they have done to lead our students in 2013.

CongratulationsCongratulations to the winners of the lucky door prizes at the Presentation night. The Piggott family are off to Wet n Wild and the Healey family are off to Sea World - have a fabulous time!

Staffing I can confirm that Mrs Karen Mackenzie will commence 2014 at our school in the capacity of Assistant Principal Learning and Support. This role is based in our school but services the needs of approximate 25 other schools in the area of support for student learning. Karen is looking forward to her new role and to becoming part of our school whenever and wherever possible.

Season’s Greetings To conclude, I’d like to extend best wishes and thoughts to all families for a very safe and happy

Christmas filled with family fun and laughter. I also hope that you may enter 2014 filled with hope and aspirations for another fantastic year ahead. Enjoy those around you and remember that every day

is a blessing to be lived to the full.

Until next year….

Freaky Friday FeteYear 6 would like to say a big thankyou to all the teachers, Learning Support Officers and staff of Woodburn Public School who worked so hard to help make our fete a success. We would like to extend a special thankyou to all the parents and guardians who gave up their time to tirelessly help on the day and to everyone who donated prizes for our fete. The fete raised $446.20 to go towards the Year 6 gift to the school. This is a mammoth effort for a small school that would not be possible without the support of staff and community. Year 6 2013, Mrs Duncan & Mrs Cattle
