Woodburn Public School Shane’s Stuff This week our school has commenced using a new bell system that also incorporates an evacuation and lockdown alert facility. It is a requirement that schools practice the evacuation and lockdown procedures so that should an emergency situation arise staff and students are able to stay as safe and calm as possible. The bell system also has a school wide communication system incorporated. This helps us spread messages as needed, but most particularly in emergency situations. Additional School Resources At the start of the year students were provided with a school resources requirements list. Thanks to all families who have supplied these already. This helps to have your child fully involved with what is happening at school. Families who are still to acquire these resources are encouraged to do so. The homework and home reader folders, along with headphones and other items do make life easier for all concerned. Another copy of the requirements is available upon request. Book Pack Fees Families who are yet to make this payment are asked to do so as soon as possible. The resources within these packs are used in classrooms to support teaching and learning programs. The $40 cost averages out at less than $1 per week for the school year. The school has purchased these resources on behalf of families, which saves the need for families to source the resources, travel to shops and saves families purchasing them at retail cost (the school gets a bulk purchase discount). These resources are available to students from the time payment is received. Shane’s StuffThis week our school has commenced using a new bell system that also incorporates an evacuation and lockdown alert facility. It is a requirement that schools practice the evacuation and lockdown procedures so that should an emergency situation arise staff and students are able to stay as safe and calm as possible.

The bell system also has a school wide communication system incorporated. This helps us spread messages as needed, but most particularly in emergency situations.

Additional School ResourcesAt the start of the year students were provided with a school resources requirements list. Thanks to all families who have supplied these already. This helps to have your child fully involved with what is happening at school.Families who are still to acquire these resources are encouraged to do so. The homework and home reader folders, along with headphones and other items do make life easier for all concerned.

Another copy of the requirements is available upon request.

Book Pack FeesFamilies who are yet to make this payment are asked to do so as soon as possible.

If families are wanting to purchase uniforms, this can be

done at the office between 9 am and

3 pm only.

Congratulations Corey.

There will be one further draw in a few weeks for 2 adult tickets to Sea World. Again, this is an incentive prize for families who have paid both the Book Pack and Contributions for 2016.

Out of Hours School Care

I have been approach by Rainbow Childcare Centre who are interested in offering a before and after school hours care service in Woodburn. Such a service would only be sustainable if families have a need for such a service. The service will take some time to successfully establish and commence operations, with a likely start during the second half of the school year.

There is a strong push to boost Before and After School Care opportunities in NSW. Such services attract subsidised fees that help make the service more affordable. There are other service providers in our area who can cater for this need, but this is an opportunity for such a service to exist here in Woodburn.

Families who feel they may be interested in such a service are asked to advise the school so we can determine the level of interest/need before further steps are undertaken to establish such a service.

If further information about the proposed service is desired, you can check the Rainbow Childcare Centre website at http://ww.rainbow.nsw.edu.au/

ChoirThis year Miss Johnston is again coordinating our school choir. The choir practices during

lunch break each Wednesday. The students enjoy learning songs and prepare for events throughout the year.

Congratulations to all participating students for being prepared to

participate, and many thanks to Miss Johnston for her coordination of the choir. The school also has a junior choir made up of students from our Kinder, 12J and 23R classes. These students practise during classes and also perform at various events and assemblies throughout the year.

DanceThis year a dance group is also available for students to engage with during lunch each Thursday. Miss Rose has a background in dance and is offering a fun dance session for interested students. This group has also had some keen interest from students and I applaud this enthusiasm, as well as thanking Miss Rose for making this available.

Until next week......
