National Executive Meeting of Vidya BharatiHeld In Udaipur

A three dayNational ExecutiveMeeting of VidyaBharati was heldin Udaipur on 13th,14 th and 15 th

September, 2019.In this meeting heldat the Vidya NiketanVidyalaya in HiranMagri in thehistorical city, morethan 200 delegatesfrom across thecountry participated.

Deliberationson the activities undertaken in the lastsix months were made. Severalpresentations were made on differentprojects. Ten books, related to theeducation field, were also launched onthe occasion. Stall set up by theSanskriti Shiksha Sansthan,Kurushetra, displayed hundreds ofbooks and attracted most participants.

The ‘Donation Page’ of the alumniportal of Vidya Bharati was launchedby RSS Sah Sarkaryavah Sri DattatreyaHosabale during the meet.

A cultural programme was alsoorganized in the evening. This includeda local tribal dance and a spectacularshow of ‘yoga’ by one of our formerstudents, who has receivedrecognitions at various levels.

The concluding session of the15th September, was addressed byHosabale ji. Sri Kashipati, theOrganizing Secretary talked of howvarious activities of the organization isinfluencing the education scenario. Inhis presidential address Sri Ramkrishna

Rao talked of bringing the requiredchange of ‘schooling with skilling’ and pledged to increase the number of modelschools including the Sanskar Kendras and Ekal Vidyalayas.

A Coffee Table Book For Vidya BharatiTo cover the journey of Vidya

Bharati, from its inception in 1952till now, a “coffee table book” is beingmade, which is targeted to bepublished by July 2020.

This book will highlight andrecord Vidya Bharati’s key milestonesand achievements. It will recognizethe people behind this journey.

The idea to publish such a bookwas mooted with the basic aimof documenting and sharing thejourney, to showcase the reach andits impact and increase the awarenessabout Vidya Bharati. The book willmotivate and infuse pride among thepeople who are already associatedand will also attract new associations.

Some of the sections, that havebeen thought of, as of now, in the bookare:

Journey – Tracing the journey ofVidya Bharati from its humblebeginnings to its current status ofrunning 23,000 + (13,000+ formalschools, Sanskar Kendras and EkalVidyalayas)

Values and model – Explaining theVidya Bharati model by which theschools are self sufficient and alsoexplaining the larger values on whichthe schools are based.

Outreach – This section will map theoutreach of Vidya Bharati across thelength and breadth of the country,covering each region and state.

Impact – The impact of education inVidya Bharati will be highlighted in thissection. This will talk of bringing ageneration out of poverty cycle;introducing schooling for the first timein a family, village or community.

Excellence – Vidya Bharati has hada number of achievements in the fieldof sports, academics, arts, publicservice etc. This section will documentthis.

Empowering the girl child – Thissection will tell about how VidyaBharati has extended educationopportunities to the girl child, enablingquality and parity and enhancingempowerment.

Stalwarts & Pillars – Recognisingthose who have made Vidya Bharatiwhat it is: they may be donors, staff,teachers volunteers.

Alumni – Lakhs of students havepassed out of Vidya Bharati schools.This section will highlight exceptionalstudents who have made a namefor themselves. This would encouragealumni all over the world to join theplatform.

The book will be authored bySupriya Newar from Kolkata. Tapanjiis the Vidya Bharati incharge andRavindra Chamariaji, NEC member ofVidya Bharati is the patron of thisbook.

Workshop For Magazine Editors In DelhiA two day workshop for the

editors of various magazinespublished by Vidya Bharati aroundthe country was orgainsed by thepromotion wing of Vidya Bharati inDelhi on 21st and 22nd September.

24 participants associatedwith 21 publications from different

areas participated. Most of thepublications are monthly, but there aresome which are bi-monthly and quarterlytoo.

Introducing the subject Sri AvnishBhatnagar, national Secretary, talked ofthe importance of this workshop as thesociety has high expectation from VidyaBharati and our magazines have to notonly give news of activities but guidefor India-centric education. Ourmagazines have to take forward thevision of Vidya Bharati.

A total of eight sessions were heldin the two days. These includedsessions on responsibility; editorial skill;cover designing; content selection andits presentation; technical issues relatedto publishing; legal issues related toRNI, PCI, Postal concessions etc.

The learnedspeakers taking differentsessions included SriJagdish Upasane, formereditor of India Today, SriPraful Ketkar, editor ofOrganiser, Sri HiteshShanker, editor of

Panchjanya, Sri Asutosh Bhatnagar,Director of Jammu Kashmir AdhyanKendra and Dr Shuchi Yadav, professorat the Galgotia University.

All the sessions were interactivewhich saw serious participation leadingto a lively question-answer with thespeaker in all sessions.

All the participants had broughtwith them their publications which wereappropriately kept for display. This gavean opportunity to all to learn from oneanother.

Sri Kashipati, Organising GeneralSecretary and Sri Sriram, GeneralSecretary of Vidya Bharati alsoparticipated. The Vidya Bharti ‘SamvadToli’ led by Sri Sudhakar Reddy includingSri Avnish Bhatnagar, Sri Ravi Kumar andSri Vijay Maroo were present throughout.

The principle ofgender equality isenshrined in theIndian Constitution asit not only grantsequality to women, butalso empowers theState to adoptmeasures of positivediscrimination infavour of women.

In spite ofadmirable work doneby both governmentaland non governmental sectors, thedisparity in numbers between male andfemale workforce still remains large. In2012, only 27 percent of adult Indianwomen had a job, or were activelylooking for one, compared to 79percent of men. Economic contributionof Indian women is less than half of theglobal average. This trend is moreprominent in rural India due to severalsocial, cultural and educational factors.

Raised in a family which is passionatea b o u t s o c i a l s e r v i c e ,   Shivendra

Kumar Pandey an alumniof Saraswati Sr. Sec Vidya Mandir,Deoria, Uttar Pradesh, grew up in anenvironment consisting of positive rolemodels. Shivendra says that hischildhood inclination towards helpingothers who are less fortunate than him,was further strengthened by his school.His teachers was responsible forreinforcing his core values and ‘sewabhawna’ further.

Shivendra’s  father was the secretaryof ‘ Vivekanand Yuva Mahila Avam BalSeva Sansthan’ which was later

renamed as ‘Swami VivekanandSansthan’. This organization wasestablished 31 years ago. Shivendrajoined this organisation 6 years ago andpresently is the CEO. Like his father heas an avid advocate of womenempowerment and development. Hisaim is to empower women and trainthem to be economically self sufficient.

His organisation works withunderprivileged women & children ofvillages in Uttar Pradesh. Recently theyhave tied up with Ministry of Petroleumand Natural Gas and jointly working in 4districts of Uttar Pradesh. Theorganisation is engaged towardsestablishment of Self Help Groups ofmore than 20 thousand women.Organisation members train the women

on cosmetic and carpet manufacturing,as well as educating them on how tomarket their manufactured goodswithout Government support.

Along with skill development amongvillage women, Shivendra is working onlaunching a Personal Hygiene Programunder which he plans to set up aSanitary Napkin factory in Varanasiwhich will supply napkins, free of costto government schools in 25 villages.

Shivendara’s personal motto is“barriers in society cannot set us backfrom bringing a change”. His passionand hard work is responsible forbringing positive changes in the livesof many women, as well as their familymembers.

Alumnus Priyesh Kumar Pandey, Healing others throughAncient Art of Meditation and Yoga

Meditation is anancient practice that helpsto control one’s own mind.It can train humanconsciousness toeliminate negativethoughts, resulting in acalm, strong mind. Thisancient practice alongalong with its numerous benefits hasfound its mention in ancient religioustexts all around the world. In India,meditation, yoga and spirituality is mixedinto the very fabric of our culture. 

Present day fast paced andstressful lifestyle has resulted in revivalof yoga and meditation practices as a

method to maintain positive mentalhealth.

Priyesh Kumar Pandey analumnus of  Rajkamal SaraswatiVidya Mandir, Jharkhand, and anIAS aspirant always had an inclinationtowards spiritualism, yoga and

meditation. The pursuit of his interestfinally led him towards Sri Ram ChandraMission, of which he is an activemember.Shri Ram Chandra Mission (SRCM)is a non-profit organisation whichprovides spiritual training to interestedseekers from around the world. It wasfounded in 1945 by Shri Ram Chandraof Shahajanpur. With a presence in over100 countries worldwide, theorganisation has its world headquartersin Kanha Shanti Vanam near Hyderabadin Telangna, India. It is involved inteaching the ancient practice of rajayoga in a simplified way appropriate formodern everyday life, resulting in mentalbalance, joy and spiritual growth.

Shri Ram Chandra Mission and SahajMarg Spirituality Foundation aims atchanging lives by teaching yogicmeditation techniques free of cost.Like Priyesh all the members in thisorganisation work as volunteers whoare dedicated towards spreadinghappiness among others.

Vidya Bharati recognises the positiveimpact of meditation, yoga andspiritualism on human development,thus all its schools has seamlesslyintegrated the practice in school’scurriculum. This has led to many alumnilike Priyesh, eager to spread thepositive effect of the same amongfellow human beings.

Vidya Bharati School in India - Bangladesh border strivesto grow in spite of challenges faced

In India, 17 states are locatedon international borders, whichincludes Arunachal Pradesh, Assam,Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura,Meghalaya, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar,West Bengal, Sikkim Jammu &Kashmir, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh,Uttarakhand, Rajasthan and Gujarat.The human habitats falling within 0 to10 KM from international borders areconsidered as border areasettlements.

Social sectors, especiallythose of education and health, arefound to be seriously deficient ininfrastructure and systems of servicedelivery in most of these bordersettlements. Lack of access to

schools, particularly at secondary levels,impedes the growth of people living there.Though Indian Government has taken

several steps todevelop theseareas, a lot is stillleft to be desired.

Vidya Bharati hasbeen able tosuccessfully runschools in severalremote areas,where previouslythere were noe d u c a t i o n a linstitutions at all,

but faces tough challenges in their roadtowards advancement. One of suchschools is Anandamayee GhoshalMemorial Tripuraswari Vidya Mandir inTripura.

Anandamayee Ghoshal MemorialTripuraswari Vidya Mandir wasestablished in the year 2012 and locatedonly 200 meters away from IndoBangladesh Border. It runs in a donatedbuilding, given by a well wishingprofessor. At present this school runsfrom classes 1 to 5 consisting of 84students. Due to lack of space the schoolis unable to expand, in spite of localsupport. During heavy rains the groundfloor gets flooded with water and theschool is forced to stay close during the

period. With the assistance from localcommunity, few amenities like waterfilters and blackboards has beeninstalled, but a lot more is required.

  The principal of the school, ShriDinendrakumar Pal intends to build anew three story building so that morestudents can be admitted. He alsoplans to increase the highest class to12th standard. With this aim a building

plan was prepared and shared withTripura State Government since Nov2017 but no positive response hasbeen received yet.

In spite of all these challenges,the students of this school constantlydeliver excellent results each yearduring examinations and participate inco curricular activities with muchenthusiasm.

Vinayak, a student of Vidya Bharati school, Talwara, in Punjab participated inthe Space Quiz organized by ISRO. He came first in this event from the stateand was invited by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) to seeChandrayaan-2 landing in Bangaluru with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. On hisreturn he was given a warm welcome by the teachers, students of the schools,besides his parents and family.
