Vidya Bharati Schools To Actively ObserveInternational Yoga Day

Vidya Bharati's central office has sent a message to all its schools and affiliated organisations to actively observe the

stInternational Yoga Day on 21 June. Excerpts from the circular:

According to Indian life philosophy, the importance of yoga in the overal l development of a child can not be questioned. It is because of this reason that Vidya Bharati has included yoga teaching as one of its five basic education subjects. Today the whole world has accepted the importance of yoga

s tand 21 June is now celebrated as International Yoga Day all around the globe.

Celebrating yoga in all our schools and associated organisations will not only make the teaching of yoga more effective, but also create an awareness among the society around us.

This drive towards yoga can be further accelerated if we involve our alumni, our old teachers and our old yoga teachers too.Some action points to achieve this can be:· Make a complete plan of action to

implement yoga teaching in the school.

· Exhibiting our best performers on International Yoga Day.

· In the summer holidays a special 7 day event can be arranged for

training of interested students on yoga.

· Similarly special yoga camps can be organised for parents and even community members under the supervision of yoga teachers.

· Every morning students be asked to practice Surya Namaskar.

· Talks should be organised laying emphasis on how yoga can benefit in the well being of an individual.

A workshop on Adolescent Girl students was organised at Sarvhitkari Keshav Vidya Niketan, Jalandhar. In the workshop issues dealing with adolescent health were discussed as well as counseling session was conducted.

INTERNATIONAL MATHEMATICS CHAMPION

Vidya Bharati studentsof Sarvhitkari Vidya Mandir,a CBSE school in Punjab Pranta have achieved top positions in international mathematics Olympiad, held in April 2019. The exam is conducted by science Olympiad Foundation with aim of identifying future scientists, technologies & it talent at school level.

Developing A Portal For Alumni www.vidyabharatialumni.org

The work of Vidya Bharati Alumni portal (Vidya Bharati Purv Chatra Network) started almost 1 year 6 months back. This online portal is a platform for all Vidya Bharati Purv Chatra to get connected with their schools, batch mates, teachers and students. After successful registration, Purv Chatra can login with their user name and password and get to know of the various latest news, activities, and events of Vidya Bharati schools around India. Purv Chatra members from the portal can read or download various newsletters and publications which are being published on regular basis. Alumni can share photos, updates, or even initiate some discussions in the portal. Through this platform, interactions will be possible between Alumni and Students for mentorship and career guidance; Alumni can support various schools and initiatives of Vidya Bharati both financially and non financially.

Till April 2019, there are more than 6670 schools have registered in the portal. More than 75000 Alumni have joined the Alumni Network. More than 80000 students are part of the portal.

Based on internal research we have found that Alumni who have registered, 28181 can be categorized under Student Community which means either they are doing graduation, post graduation, higher studies or yet to start any job. There almost 6949 Alumni which can be categorized under W o r k i n g C o m m u n i t y . Research work still going on day to day basis so the exact numbers we will get to know in the months to come.

The working Alumni a r e f r o m v a r i o u s professionals as per the research done till now. There

are above 1581 teachers, 1164 doctors, 1101 business person, 679 engineers, 227 g o v e r n m e n t e m p l o y e e s , 1 4 8 I T professionals, 145 bankers, 84 lawyers & judges, 93 Indian Defense professionals, 85 P o l i c e p r o f e s s i o n a l s , 7 9 charteredaccountant,37Directors/CEOs/MD, 30 Indian Railway professionals, 169 farmers, 20 scientists, 10 Indian Civil Service professionals.

Vidya Bharati Alumni are not only located in India but around the world. Till now through the portal 312 NRI Alumni has been associated. 161 Alumni are from US, 25 from Canada, 19 from UK, 18 from Australia and from various other countries such as Dubai, Germany, Italy, Malaysia, New Zealand, South Korea, South Africa, Singapore, UAE, and Denmark.

A 10 member team has been formed in Kolkata who has been looking after the entire end to end operations - developing the portal, marketing of the portal digitally, communicating with Alumni, talk with schools and interacting with different stakeholders of Pranta and Kshetra.
