Welcome from Multicultural Student Affairs:

We would like to take this opportunity to welcome our incoming multicultural students! We are happy that you have joined our University of Miami multicultural family. To our returning students…welcome back!

Over the summer we worked diligently to update materials and develop innovative and interesting programs that will assist you in achieving your academic goals while challenging you to grow both personally and professionally. Our office provides several resources to help you navigate the University and the Miami com-munity. The Urban Access Guide has been completely redesigned and updated with new restaurants, hair salons, and much more thanks to the design expertise of Sh’Nere Deas. The Urban Access Guide is a resource hand-book on UM and the Miami community. If you would like to obtain a guide, make sure to to stop by the office and pick one up or come out to our events as we will be distributing copies throughout the year. Our website contains valuable information that will help you throughout your college career. Some of the website highlights in-clude featured special events that you can attend listed right on the main page, a section on student organizations that are advised by our office, a photo gallery, and a complete listing of MSA programs that occur throughout the year. For more information about us and what we are up to check out our website at www.miami.edu/msa.

Our office, along with several university departments and student organizations, is excited to announce that one of our feature programs for the semester is “An Evening with Soledad O’Brien”. The critically acclaimed reporter will be speaking on September 12 at the BankUnited Center Fieldhouse at 7pm. Throughout the se-mester we will also host a Book Club in which we will be reading Ms. O’Brien’s memoir, The Next Big Story: My Journey through the Land of Opportunities. We also have planned various cultural celebrations, student success workshops, leadership training, a Diversity Week which will feature several engaging events and graduate prepara-tion testing, among others. Don’t miss out!!!! Be sure to stop by our programs…it is a sure way to learn some new things, get involved and get acquainted with your peers. For a detailed listing of all of our programs (and a ton of student organization events), go to www.miami.edu/msa/calendar.

Lastly, be sure to read the UNITY Newsletter, which will be emailed to you twice a month. It will contain valuable information on campus resources, programs, and services that will help you during your college career. We also encourage you to stop by the MSA office (Building 21-P) and visit. We are here to help you in any way that we can. Good luck as the semester begins!
