In the last four years, UMass Lowell has attained an 88 percent increase in overall fundraisingfor a total of $52.9 million in pledges and gifts. This has included several multimillion-dollargifts, allowing the University to increase scholarships, construct new buildings on campus andadvance educational and research programs that benefit the entire region.
In 2012, a critical focus on building endowments to support student scholarships, academic programs and faculty development helped the University reach a milestone of over $54 millionin endowment funds. Since 2006, the number of endowments has grown from 171 to 313, an 83percent increase. This has resulted in an increase of $22.5 million in endowment funding. Furthermore, the University also has $6.5 million in future pledge commitments, which willboost the University endowment total close to $60 million over the next four years.
During the 2011-2012 academic year, $900,000 in scholarships was awarded to 1,150 students.In the last five years, several key academic programs were enhanced and 11 faculty chairs, pro-fessorships and fellowships were funded by endowments. Endowments have been created byalumni, faculty and staff as well as friends of the University, many as named memorials or inhonor of individuals or families.
To establish an endowed fund, a donor commits a minimum of $25,000 through an outright giftor a multi-year pledge. For more information, call the Office of University Advancement at 978-934-3689.

The portfolio has earned an average investment return of 9.12 percent over the past three years. Concerns over governments’ inability to cope with debt problems, the European banking crisisand slowing economic growth around the world continue to create instability and market volatil-ity. The Investment Committee employs a long-term asset allocation model that provides diver-sification across asset classes. We are confident that their efforts to achieve a well-constructedrisk adjusted portfolio will guide us through this period of uncertainty. The market value of thepooled endowment fund stands at $565 million at June 30, 2012.
