The2010RiverHawksfinishedwitha27-19record,butfellshortofaNortheast-10ConferenceTournamentbidduetoatie-breaker.HarringcoachedfiveplayerstotheconferenceAll-StarTeamandCamKneelandwasnamedtotheABCAAll-EastRegionFirst-Team. Harringsteeredthe2009squadtoa25-21recordandtheNE-10Tournamentsemifinals.Underhiswatch,sixRiverHawkswerenamedtotheNE-10All-StarTeamandJackLeathersichclaimedtheNE-10FreshmanPitcheroftheYearhonor. With18freshmenandsophomoresonits2008roster,UMassLowellcompileda26-24recordandadvancedtotheNortheast-10Con-ferenceTournament.Overtheseason,Harringearnedhis100thvictoryatUMassLowellandthe200thofhiscareer. The2007seasonsawtheRiverHawksgo33-20,markingthesecondstraightyearandninthtimeinschoolhistoryUMLhaseclipsedthe30-victoryplateau. In2006,theRiverHawks(37-14)postedthesecond-highestwintotalinschoolhistoryandcapturedtheirfifthNortheast-10Confer-enceTournamentchampionshipinsixyears.UMLalsoearneditssecondstraightandeighthNCAATournamentappearanceinthelastnineyears. InhisfirstseasonatUML,HarringledtheRiverHawkstoa28-20record,upfroma22-21clipin2004.UMLreturnedtotheNCAATournamentastheNo.4seedintheregion,whereitdefeatedNo.1FranklinPierce(8-2)beforelosingtoNo.2SouthernConnecticut(10-3)andtheRavens(16-11). Head Coach Ken Harring coachatSaintAnselmCollegeandfouryearsasanassistantatNortheasternUniversity. The2004NE-10CoachoftheYear,Har-ringguidedSaintAnselmtoitsbestseasoninschoolhistorywitha30-22overallrecord(24-8NE-10).HeledtheHawkstothe2004NE-10regularseasonchampionshipaswellasitsfirstNCAATournamentbidinschoolhistory. Harring’steamsatSaintAnselmsignifi-cantlyimprovedwitheachseason,culminatingwiththerecord-breakingseasonin2004.Afterstrugglingtoa9-35finishin2001,HarringguidedtheHawkstoa17-32clipin2002,whichincludeda15-17showingintheNE-10(fourthplaceinthesix-teamPepinDivision). The2003SaintAnselmsquadpostedarecordof23-20-itsfirstwinningseasonin23years-andcapturedtheEasternCollegeAth-leticConference(ECAC)DivisionIIchampion-ship.Alongtheway,theHawksfinishedthirdintheNE-10PepinDivisionandgarneredtheirfirstappearanceintheNE-10Tournament. Harringwasafour-yearplayeratDivi-sionILeMoyneCollegewherehehelpedtheDolphinstoNCAATournamentbidsin1986,1987and1989.InductedintoLeMoyne’sGoldWaveHallofFamein2003,HarringhelpedtheDolphinstoacollectiverecordof54-18-1inhisjuniorandseniorseasons(.740),LeMoyne’sfirstyearsasaDivisionIprogram. AmongLeMoyne’sDivisionIleaders,Harringrankssecondinbatting(.367),thirdinsluggingpercentage(.609)and21stinhits(108).HeledtheDolphinsinruns,hitsanddoublesinhisjuniorandsenioryears. AftergraduatingfromLeMoynewithadegreeinbusinessadministration,HarringspenttwoyearsintheAtlantaBravesorgani-zationwiththeDurhamBullsoftheCarolinaLeaguewherehismanagerwasformerRedSoxskipperGradyLittle. HarringacceptedhisfirstcoachingpositionatNortheasternUniversity,whereheremainedfrom1996-99.Duringhisstay,theHuskiespostedacollective105-88recordandcapturedthe1997AmericaEastConferenceTournament.Thatyear,NUadvancedtotheNCAATournamentwhereitdefeatedBethune-Cookman(19-3,7-4)beforefallingtoStanfordandCalState-FullertonintheWestRegional. ShortlyafterhisappointmenttoSaintAnselm,HarringservedasthemanageroftheKeeneSwampBats,leadingthemtothe2000NewEnglandCollegiateBaseballLeague(NECBL)championship. Harringandhiswife,Shauna,liveinAmesbury,MA,withtheirdaughterMikaela(8)andsonJacob(5).

Assistant Keith BeauregardAprolifichitteratSaintAnselmunderKenHarring,KeithBeauregardstartshisfirstyearasamemberoftheRiverHawkcoachingstaff. Beauregardisslottedtoworkwiththeoutfielders,baserunnersandhitters. Beauregardarrivedin

LowellafterastandoutcareerwiththeWorces-terTornado’softheCan-AmLeagueandtheSaintAnselmHawksintheNortheast-10. ThesluggerputupstrongnumberswiththeTornado’sfrom2005-07,withacareerav-erageof.288.Hisfinestseasoncamein2007ashehit.317withfivehomeruns,31RBIand15stolenbases. WhileamemberoftheHawksunderHar-ringfrom2002-05,Beauregardsetmanypro-gramrecordsthatstillstandtoday.Amonghisachievements,heownstheSaintAnselmmarkforcareerhits(223),singles(148),doubles(46)andtriples(15),whilesittinginsecondforcareerRBI(102)behindformerUMassLowellassistantKenKessaris. WhileatSaintAnselm,BeauregardearnedhisdegreeinCriminalJustice. Beauregarddidnotimmediatelyenterthecoachingfieldafterhisprofessionalcareerwasover,workingforPrudentialDouglasEllimaninNewYorkasarealestateagentfrom2008-2010.HecurrentlyresidesinhishometownofLeominster,MA.

Aformerstandoutpitcher,atUMassLowellandSaintAnselmforheadcoachKenHarring,RyanWilliamsentershissecondyearontheRiverHawkstaffservingasthepitchingcoach. UnderWillams’guidance,UMassLowellpitchersin-creasedstrikeouts(+53)and

loweredwalks(-8)in2010.TwoofhispitcherswerenamedtotheNortheast-10All-StarTeam. WilliamsspentthetwoseasonspriortojoiningtheUMassLowellstaffpitchingprofes-sionally,in2008withtheBrocktonRoxoftheCan-AmLeagueandin2007withtheSt.JosephBlacksnakesintheAmericanAssociation. AformerNortheast-10standout,WilliamstoedtherubberatUMassLowellforhisseniorseasonafterthreeyearsatSaintAnselm.In2006,

AlongtimeassistantcoachwithDivisionIstrong-holdsHolyCrossandNortheastern,KevinGatelyentershisfirstseasonwithUMassLowell. Gately’sprimaryfocuswillbetheinfielders,whilealsoactivelyaidingtherecruitingefforts. GatelyjoinedUMassLowellafterwrappinguphisthirdseasonasanassistantcoachwithHolyCross.Whilethere,theCrusaderspostedthreeconsecutive20+winseasonsforthefirsttimesincethe1920’s. Priortothat,Gatelyservedastheinfield,outfieldandhittingcoachatNortheastern,whilealsoactingastheassistantrecruitingcoordinator. GatelywasthestartingshortstopfortheHuskiesfrom1991-94.Hiscrowningachievementcameascaptainofthe1994teamthatwontheAmericaEastconference,earningabidtotheprogram’sfirstNCAAregionaltournamentsincethe1960’s. WhileaplayeratNortheastern,GatelyearnedhisBachelor’sdegreeinPoliticalSciencein1995andthenreceivedhisMBAatRivierCol-legein2006. HeresidesinLowellwithhiswifeReneeandtwodaughters,JuliaandAmanda.

Williamsearnedabachelor’sdegreeinbusi-nessfromSaintAnselmin2007. AnativeofLynnfield,WilliamsattendedSt.John’sPrephighschoolwhere,inadditiontobase-ball,hecompetedinfootballandindoortrackandfield.HecurrentlyresidesinMedford,MA.

Overthewintermonthsinwhichplayersareconfinedtothegymsandbattingcages,themeltingsnowandwarmingtemperaturescanmeanonlyonething:baseball’sback. ForUMassLowellitoffersachancetoreclaimitsrightfulplaceintheNortheast-10standingsaftertheRiverHawksweremarkedwitharareabsencefortheconferenceplayoffslastyear.EdgedbyatiebreakerwithMerrimack,UMassLowell’s2010sea-sonendedinbitterfashiononMay1. Theseasonwasn’tasgrimasitappeared.HamstrungbyafourthplaceselectionintheNE-10PreseasonPoll,theRiverHawks’tieforsixthwasover-shadowedbywhatcouldhavebeen.Inreality,UMassLowellfinishedwitha27-19recordthatincludeda29-3victoryoverthedefendingNationalChampionsLynnUniversity.Atyear’send,fiveplayerswereplacedonAll-ConferenceTeamsandsluggerCamKneeland(Rowley,Mass.)wasnamedtotheDivisionIIAll-EastRegionFirstTeambytheAmericanBaseballCoachesAssociation. TheRiverHawks’formulaforsuccessin2011willstartwithpitching.RameyandLeathersichwillanchorarotationthatisbothtalentedanddeep,featuringNE-10All-RookieTeamselectionGarrettCole(Manchester,N.H.)andfreshmenMikeCalzetta(Lawrence,Mass.)andJakeFinnegan(Londonderry,N.H.). Rameyiscomingoffofastellarju-niorcampaignthatearnedhimaThirdTeamnodbytheconference.Thestaffworkhorsepitchedateam-high69.2in-ningswhilecompilinga7-4recordanda2.07ERA. “Dustinisaleaderbyexample,butwhenhespeaksitcarriesalotofweight,”saidHarringofhiscaptain.“Dustinmissedhisfirsttwocollegiateyearsduetoinjury,he’sbeenthroughadversityandhehadareallygoodjunioryear.He’llbeournumberonepitcheraslongashe’sliningupforme. Leathersich’ssophomoreseasonwasn’tasstrongasUMassLowellhadhoped,butthehardthrowingleftystillsecureda3-2recordwhilestrikingoutateam-best62batters.Leathersichreboundedinabigwaythissummer,impressingscoutswithadominantstintintheCapeCodBaseballLeague.Asofresult,theBeverlynativewasrankedasthethird-bestDivisionIIproductintheupcomingMLBDraft. AsorespotforUMassLowellaseasonagowastheteam’sabilitytogenerateoffense.Despitescoring243totalruns,up25from2009,theRiverHawkspickedupalargechunkofthatinthe29-3winoverLynn.UMassLowellwasjust8-6inone-rungames,includinga2-1losstoMerrimacktheultimatelydecidedthetiebreaker. “Lastyearwestruggledagainstnotonlygoodpitching,butaveragepitching,”Harringsaidoftheoffense.“Inpreviousyearswe’veknockedpitchersoutofgamesearlyandputupdouble-digitruns.Someofthatproblemhasbeentakencareofwiththereturnoftwobigbatsfrominjury.” TheRiverHawksreturningfromseasonlonginjuriesarePatDev-lin(Tewksbury,Mass.)andJamesKatsiroubas(Milton,Mass.).ThepairwilllooktogiveKneelandsomeaddedprotectioninthelineup.
