The vision of St. Juliana Falconieri Catholic Community is to live as a people of God with Christ at the center of our lives through

liturgy, faith formation and community.

Our mission is to be a welcoming family dedicated to proclaiming the gospel, celebrating the Sacraments, educating, serving,

and providing opportunity for all to enrich their faith.

THE PARISH AS ONE BODY “If the whole body were an eye, where would the hearing be? If the whole body were hearing, where would the sense of smell be? But as it is, God placed the parts, each one of them, in the body as he intended… The eye cannot say to the hand, ‘I do not need you,’ nor again the head to the feet, ‘I do not need you.’ Indeed, the parts of the body that seem to be weaker are all the more necessary . Now you are Christ’s body, and individually parts of it. “ (1 Cor. 12:17-25)

I have been asked to write a directive regarding planning funerals. Sounds scary! Actually, such plans when made ahead of time give comfort and relief. Most funerals are left to the survivors to plan; quite often in haste and with emotion.

“Father, we are getting older. We do not have the same health we did. Can we do something to plan our funerals?” It’s the compassion of good parents – don’t be a burden to the kids.

In our parish Deacon Pete Lauder and his wife Jan lead survivors though the planning and help with all sorts of spiritual direction at the time of death. They are not bothered if you contact them to make arrangements before death happens.

It sounds macabre, but it really need not be; contact Deacon Pete and Jan. With them or on you own discuss funeral plans and options with a mortuary; two advertise in our parish bulletin and there are

many more. Catholics may be cremated, the ashes must be kept together and not scattered. It is desired that the ashes be buried at the time of the funeral and not kept in homes, etc. The Diocese of Orange maintains several cemeteries, look at them. You don’t have to be interred in a Catholic cemetery, but consider one of our own. That helps with the services of mortuary and cemetery.

Now there is the ceremony, the Ritual of the Order of Christian Funerals to plan. The ritual provides a choice of readings and songs. Again, Deacon Pete and Jan will assist you.

Be sure you have your private estate, will, and advance health care directives in place. Estate planners can help you with all of that; several advertise in our church bulletin.

When direction is given, the burden of the survivors at death is eased.

If plans are not made and death occurs in your family, call the mortuary of your choosing for their services then call Deacon Lauder for the church services of the Rite of Christian Burial.

The Sacrament of the Anointing the Sick is not the “Sacrament of the Last Rites” any longer – not since 1972! Believe the action of this sacrament to be the Pastoral Care of the Sick, a ritual for the presence of Jesus to help with the human body and spirit. The Sacrament is best celebrated with the family present, not a few moments before death and all alone. When serious sickness or the long years of life require the Pastoral Care of the Sick, phone the parish office and arrange for the celebration of the sacrament.

At the morning Masses during the week of June 26th I announced and explained a matter that I really want to avoid but cannot. Fr. Luke and I are the two priests assigned to St. Juliana parish. Frs. Don Siple OSM, John Moneypenny, and Damien Giap O.Praem help us because they are really good priests! They like us and we love them. There used to be a ranch of Servite priests at Servite High School who could assist with parish Masses, but that rodeo is ended!

Daily Mass is celebrated at 6:30AM and 8:00AM Monday through Friday. Sometimes there is a funeral, those are usually at 10:00AM. It is easier for me to take two or all three than it is for Fr. Luke. Both Fr. Don and I are on two committees for the USA Province of Servites, that from time to time, require us to be away from Fullerton. Fr. John has been able to take a morning Mass as needed but he has other duties, he is the Director of Vocations for the Diocese of Orange and is sometimes away or scheduled for the day. Fr. Damien is a Norbertine priest who lives at St. Michael’s Abbey in Silverado and is unable to help with daily Mass.

What I don’t want to do might have to be done – sometimes. Both Fr. Luke and I want to continue to serve you with Mass. That desire might not always be possible. You might be sometimes served with Holy Communion Outside of Mass – this is a Holy Communion Service, not a Mass - if we cannot provide Mass on a week day. I don’t want to eliminate any Mass from our schedule, however I cannot guarantee a Mass every day.

The Mass intention will be prayed for at the “Prayer of the Faithful” while the stipend for the Mass and the Mass itself will be celebrated at our Servite house in Buena Park where Fr. Don lives.

Gee, I don’t like telling you this but it is certainly best that you know now so that when it happens you will be prepared. I’m sorry!

A NOTE FROM FR. MIKE PONTARELLI, O.S.M.

LET’S CELEBRATE DINNER THANK YOU EVERYONE!

If the smiles on all these faces don’t make it obvious, we had a GREAT “Let’s Celebrate” Dinner on June 24th!

Thank you to everyone who made this evening possible — the team of volunteers, the chefs, those who decorated, shopped, cleaned, made cupcakes and slaved over a hot stove to perfect the bolognaise sauce…

Thank you! Also, to the entire parish — if it were not for the incredible generosity of the people of this parish, who had

the vision and foresight to dream big and put the ‘ask’ out there so that we could begin fundraising efforts many years ago, our Parish Center would never have been built.

Thank you for putting dreams into reality and giving our community a place to have celebrations such as this!

The Parish Center loan is paid-in-full — we did it! It was a wonderful night to celebrate!

COROZON NEWS

Thank you so much, 1000 gracias, to those who helped make a difference for 5 appreciative families in Baja California, Mexico as a result of our Corazon Fundraiser on Father's Day this June.

We, St. Juliana Church, donated a total of $2180.65! $1200 will be enough money to complete two drywall and insulation projects. $670 was raised for the scholarship fund. We will sponsor school related expenses for a high school student (Alberto Ruiz, pictured below) and a junior high student (Briana Honorio Behena, also pictured below) for one year each.

The remaining $310.65 was used as a down payment for a roof re-pair. We need $189.35 to raise the $500 needed for tar paper and shingles. If anyone who wishes to donate and missed the opportunity on Father's Day weekend, please call Doug and Jean Knudson at 714-992-2905.

Thank you to the Knights of Columbus, and volunteer parishioners who helped at the tables after Mass.

We have scheduled the construction projects for the coming fall. You can visit Corazon's website at Corazon.org to see all the great things happening with Corazon.
