“Moving Forward”

Pastor D. Marie

Last month the members of our congregation participated in a very important process, which lead to the adoption of a new church vision & mission statement. For many people this was an exciting time to be connected to congregational life. The

process ignited a new passion for ministry as they anticipated the future of our church. For others this process was less comfortable. It invoked uncertainty, generated questions and highlighted deeply rooted personal concerns about the churches future. Regardless to where you may have been positioning on the spectrum, everyone who participated in the business of the church demonstrated their passion and love for the place we all choose to make our church home.

Now what...

Although it did not seem like it, adopting the new church mission and vision was the easy part! Now that we have declared our mission to be: “Refreshing your spirit, renewing your faith, and redefining love through a personal relationship and encounter with Jesus Christ”. We must seek to live out this mission with everyone we encounter. Likewise, if our vision for the future is: “To be a community reflecting the love of Jesus Christ, growing, nurturing, and celebrating faith with a commitment to diversity and service; eliminating the barriers preventing others from experiencing the authenticity of God’s love”. We must now be committed to doing the work that will continue to catapult us towards achieving our vision.

How...

It’s never easy. Building anything takes a combination of time, talent, resources, and a lot of faith. It’s unrealistic to expect everyone to be able to give the same measure at the same time. However we must all be charitable. Determining how charitable with can be with our time, talents, and resources is an action of faith and becomes a personal commitment between each of us and God. The Apostle Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 12:12, “For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ.” Our success will only take place, if we all commit ourselves to working together, giving willingly of our time, talent & resources, and remain focused on the mission and the vision God has established over our church.

Habakkuk 2:2-3 States, “Then the Lord answered me

and said: Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so

that a runner may read it. 3 For there is still a vision

for the appointed time; it speaks of the end, and does

not lie. If it seems to tarry, wait for it; it will surely

come, it will not delay”
