At this time, Karla Davis and I will share with our families the results of last year’s effort indicating where we were, a look at our current year’s school goals and staff learning plan and invite feedback into our upcoming school year. Coming soon, on November 6 th you will also have an opportunity to meet with your child’s teacher to get an update into the first few months of school. While you are encouraged to contact your child’s teacher(s) at any time, this opportunity allows you to have a designated time to get answers to your questions and learn more about what takes place in your child’s classroom and an update of their progress before formal Learner Profiles (aka Report Cards) come home. Starting this Wednesday at noon, you will be able to book an appointment with your child’s teacher through our online booking system (See below). Please access and set up an account if you have not already done so and log in anytime after Wednesday to book or modify your schedule. Please note that I will also be available for booking an appointment, however, due to my teaching load, I may book up quickly and we may need to book another time. School Council

Upcoming Meeting

Tuesday, November 4

7:00-8:30

in the Learning Commons

Agenda items:

- Presentation: Education Plan for Millarville Community School

- Updates from administration, teaching staff and school trustee

All parents are welcome and invited to attend!

WANTED Secretary/Treasurer for School Council

School Council is a group of parents, teachers and administrative staff

that work together to support and enhance student learning. At MCS our

School Council meets every month on the first Tuesday, at 7 pm. All

parents are invited to attend any meeting(s) of interest, or just to hear

about what’s going on this month at school.

We are looking for a volunteer parent to sit as Secretary/Treasurer for the

rest of this school year (one year term). The duties of this position are not

strenuous, largely involving minute-taking and distribution, as the

treasurer role is quite small. The meetings are interesting and enjoyable.

If you are interested in volunteering or want to know more, please contact Glenn Gibson in the office, or Dawn Dott, Chair of School Council.

School Sign Project

In an effort to improve communication and community messaging for both our school and the Millarville Sports Association, MCS and MSA are collaborating on the purchase of the following outdoor sign. Final drawings will be available shortly, however this should provide you a glimpse of what the final product might look like. Please note that this sign will not be lighted. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Mr. Gibson.

It’s been a busy two weeks and here’s a list of some of the great things happening in and around the building.

Millarville Community School families collected a pile of non-perishables to donate to the Turner Valley Food Bank!

Kinders visited the RCMP and Turner Valley Hospital to learn about community services.

Students from grade 6-8 went camping in the Foothills and Rockies!

Grade 2 students took a field trip to the Chinook Honey Company to learn about bees and honey.

Grade 4 students visited Ralph Klein Park to learn more about Waste in our World.

Congratulations to our Flag Football team for ending the season with a day at McMahon Stadium and a hard fought final at Highwood High School earning second place in the league!

Volleyball teams are up and running and are racking up the wins each Thursday!

Grade 3s shared their understanding of Rocks and Minerals in their Rock Show! Thank-you to all the families who were able to attend.

Grade 1 spent some time making signs displayed around the school to practice writing and display their art!

Mr. Gibson and Ms. Davis survived the Banff earthquake of 2014! (Actually, we didn’t feel the 2.7 tremor, but we now have a story to tell!)
