The 23-year-old from Zonkizizwe Zone 6 was shocked when he received a phone- call from Spar informing him that he had won a brand-new car. “I did not believe that I won a car. I thought it was a wrong number when they first called me. Even now I still do not believe it. I am happy and appreciate the car - it will help to improve my life,” said Mkhize. He went to Mathambo Spar to buy groceries, said Mkhize, and entered the competition by chance, not thinking that he would win it and become the first car-owner in his family. “My family is still amazed. God is great. People should take the competitions seriously and make a follow-up of the end results because nothing is impossible,” he said. Mkhize dropped out of Zonkizizwe Secondary School in Grade 8 and up until now had no hope of improving his life, so is very grateful to Spar for their competition. He does not, however, have a driver’s license and is still deciding how he will use the car to improve his life. Pieter van Vuuren, Inland Regional Advertising Manager for Spar, said the supermarket was giving away 100 cars countrywide. Children are vulnerable to all forms of abuse. So, as a way of making people aware of child abuse and the rights of children, four crèches from Vosloorus Extension 16 Networking Committee marched recently to Chris Hani Mall Crossing. The children, who were accompanied by their teachers, sang songs condemning abuse and held placards with slogans like “no to abuse of children.” The crèches involved were Focus, Zamokuhle, Little

Angel and Good Hope Early Childhood Development Centres.Speaking to tame TIMES, Anna Zondo, chairperson of Vosloorus Extension 16 Networking Committee said, “ We are making an awareness that children can be abused anywhere, whether at the crèche, home, school and at the shopping centre. Children are taught to inform their parents or teachers of any cases of abuse and they will immediately report it to the police. We are also encouraging parents to take their children to registered crèches.”

Meat Express recently opened a new butchery at Naledi Mall in Vosloorus in an effort to provide even more customers with fresh meat at affordable prices. Speaking to tame TIMES, Meat Express Manager, Ricardo Martins, said they are trying their level best to keep their prices as low as possible so that they can reach most households. He appreciates the enor-mous and loyal support they receive from the Kathorus community.“We have various boerewors types and A-grade meat ranging from mince, chalk, brisket, chunks, chicken, fish and other meat ranges. We have diversified our shop so that we can be a one-stop shop and be convenient for our clients. Our store offers bulk at a discount price to lo-cal traders who are buying meat so they can make a profit,” said Martins. As part of celebrat-ing Nelson Mandela Day, Meat Express will have a number of special offers and

products will be sold at the lowest possible prices. Martins praised former president Nelson Mandela for opening up business opportu-nities for white South Africans to operate in townships. “We always remind our staff that, for a busi-ness to be successful, they should strive for cleanliness, quality product and consistency. We are sending our clients SMSes as part of acknowledging their support. However, the competition is stiff; hence we always strive to meet our clients’ demands,” concluded Martins.

Community invited to Sports Imbizo

The residents of Ward 101 in Tsietsi Extension Six are invited to a Sports Imbizo to be held on 26 July at the Maplankeni. Speaking to tame TIMES, South African National Civic Organisation (SANCO) Ward 101 representative, Lucky-boy Mofokeng, said that there are talented youngsters in their ward, but that a lack of investment, a shortage of sponsorship and either the shortage of sports facilities or their dilapidated state hinders sports development in the township. “It is because of the above-mentioned facts that we decided to partner with all relevant stakeholders in sport, including the Councillor of our ward. Various sporting codes, and parents, are invited to take part in the coming imbizo. We will be talking about sports and seeking ways to improve it in our ward. We hope that we will get alternatives that will improve sports in our township,” concluded Mofokeng.

Germany are the champions

There was little between the two teams for 113 minutes until German substitute Mario Goetze struck the death blow, stamping Germany's authority on the game by beating yet another South American World Cup favourite. Goetze's goal came from a well-struck volley after receiving a pin-point accurate cross by Andre Schurrle.

The match's only goal came late in extra time after the sides played a goalless, yet exciting, 90 minutes.Argentina, which had scored 12 goals in the 2014 Brazil World Cup prior to the final encounter, had their share of opportunities, including a disallowed goal in the first half. Moments before having his goal disallowed for being off-side, Gonzalo Higuain missed a clear-cut chance - this was not to be Argentina’s last missed opportunity, as

Ndu [email protected]

Rodrego Palacio shot wide, failing to beat the German goalkeeper. At the end of the game Argentina had a total of 2 shots on target and 8 off target. The loss to Germany in the final also denied Lionel Messi - who also missed on two occasions - an opportunity to win a World Cup.The now four-time world champions, who were fresh off the back of an historic 7 - 1 victory against Brazil, also had a total of 10 shots at goal with only three missing the target. Although the Germans could not repeat their semi-final performance (in terms of goals and total dominance) their ball possession statistic (60%) testifies to the superiority of their “total football” style of play, in which having the best individual player does not matter more than having the best functioning team.WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS: Members of the German 2014 World Cup winning squad celebrate
