Stewardship Reflections

In today’s second reading Paul concludes his letter to the Christian

community at Thessalonica by providing it with actions to take as they wait

for the return of the Lord. The first action is to rejoice always and give

thanks in all circumstances. This sounds easy but it’s not. The two words

that make this task difficult are “always” and “all”. This means giving thanks

and rejoicing even when our circumstances are not always moments of joy

and thanksgiving, or when we are confronted with a broken world. Prayerful

stewards rejoice and give thanks in all circumstances because they are people

of hope. A good reflection this week would be how the season of Advent can

give you reason to hope.

En la segunda lectura de hoy Pablo concluye su carta a la comunidad cristiana de

Tesalónica proveyéndola con acciones para ser tomadas mientras espera el

regreso del Señor. La primera acción es alegrarse siempre y dar gracias en todas

las circunstancias. Esto parece fácil, pero no lo es. Las dos palabras que hacen

difícil esta tarea son “siempre” y “todas”. Esto significa dar gracias y alegrarnos

aun cuando nuestras circunstancias no sean siempre momentos de gozo y acción

de gracias, o cuando somos confrontados con un mundo quebrantado. Los

corresponsables piadosos se alegran y dan gracias en todas las circunstancias

porque son personas de esperanza. Una buena reflexión esta semana podría ser

acerca de cómo la época del Adviento puede darle un motivo de esperanza.

This year, Christmas Day falls on a

Monday. On Saturday, December 23rd

and Sunday, December 24th, the

Masses will be celebrated at the

regular times. Christmas Eve, Sunday

December 24th, we will also be

celebrating the Vigil Masses in the

evening and Christmas Day on

December 25th in the morning. If you

attend Mass at the regular times

Saturday evening or Sunday morning,

we are still obligated to attend either

the Vigil Masses or Mass on Christmas

Day. Attending Mass on this specific

Sunday does not exempt you from

missing Mass on either Christmas Eve

or Christmas Day, as these are two

separate obligations.

GAUDETE SUNDAY

THE THIRD SUNDAY

OF ADVENT

A Joyful Sunday. The Third Sunday

of Advent is also known as Gaudete

Sunday. The word “gaudete” is derived

from the Latin words “gaudium,” joy,

and “gaudeo,” to rejoice or be glad.

Gaudete Sunday occurs eight to thirteen

days before Christmas, and the nearness

of this major feast is reason for great joy. Advent is the season of

preparing for the arrival of the Lord Jesus (both his first coming and his

second coming). Thus it is appropriate to rejoice as we see the goal of the

season approaching: “The Lord is near.” Gaudete – said “Gow-DAY-tay”

– Sunday reminds us that the gift has not yet arrived, but it’s very near.

A Joyful Color. Rose represents joy and may be used as the liturgical

color for Gaudete Sunday. Violet remains the official color for the Season

of Advent, the Third Sunday included, because all of Advent has a

penitential tone, a time of conversion, reparation, and forgiveness.

Gaudete Sunday offers a one-day respite to look ahead to the joyful

celebration of the Nativity. The third candle of the Advent wreath is rose.

Joyful Prayers. The prayers in The Roman Missal on the Third Sunday

of Advent convey a joyful message.

Joyful Readings. The Scripture texts for the Third Sunday of Advent,

Year A, have multiple references to joy. The Responsorial Psalm is a

joyful hymn of praise to God. The readings all give us a reason to rejoice.

DOMINGO DE GAUDETE

EL TERCER DOMINGO

DE ADVIENTO

Un Domingo Feliz. El tercer domingo de

Adviento es también conocido como domingo

Gaudete. La palabra "gaudete" se deriva de las

palabras latinas "gaudium", alegría, y

"gaudeo", a alegrarse o estar contento. Gaudete Domingo ocurre de 8 a 13

días antes de la Navidad, y la cercanía de esta gran fiesta es motivo de gran

alegría. El Adviento es el tiempo de preparación para la llegada del Señor

Jesús (tanto en su primera venida y su segunda venida). Por lo tanto

conviene alegrarse como vemos la meta de la temporada abordar: "El Señor

está cerca." Gaudete - dijo "Gow-DAY-tay" - Domingo nos recuerda que el

don no ha llegado todavía, pero está muy cerca.

Un Color Alegre. Color Rosa, representa alegría y puede ser utilizado

como el color litúrgico de Gaudete domingo. Violeta sigue siendo el color

oficial para el tiempo de Adviento, incluido el tercer domingo de Adviento,

porque todo tiene un tono penitencial, un tiempo de conversión, la

reparación y el perdón. Gaudete Domingo ofrece un día de tregua para mirar

hacia el futuro a la celebración gozosa de la Natividad. La tercera vela de la

corona de adviento es el rosado.

Oraciones Alegres. Las oraciones del Misal Romano en el tercer domingo

de Adviento, transmitir un mensaje de alegría.

Lecturas Alegres. Los textos de las escrituras para el tercer domingo de

Adviento, un año, tienen múltiples referencias a la alegría. El Salmo

responsorial es un gozoso himno de alabanza a Dios. Todas las lecturas nos

dan un motivo para alegrarse.
