Sacred Heart Catholic Church Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time –July 8, 2018

Reflection from the Stewardship Office:

"Who are You Following?"

Faith takes the center stage for a second week in a row! In the reading from

Ezekiel, we learn that the Israelites were hard of heart and literally needed to

be saved from themselves. In the Gospel we hear that Jesus' own family and

friends were in the same sad situation. They knew who He was, and yet they

questioned Him! To be a true steward it requires more than mere knowledge

of who Jesus is! It requires focused effort and constant conversion of

heart. It requires prayer and a personal relationship with Jesus. Only then

will your faith be great enough to allow the miraculous healing Jesus is

capable of. Do not allow your discipleship to grow stale. Instead, make

every effort to open your heart and allow your faith to flourish!

PARISH NEWS

Fr. Reilley will be on retreat from Thursday, July 5th –

Friday, July 13th. We will not have morning Mass

Monday – Friday, July 9th – 13th.

Fr. Reilley will be holding a summer class on the

Mass/Eucharist from Tuesday, July 17th - Friday, July

20th from 6 to 7 pm in the cafeteria. We’ll be looking at

Bishop Robert Barron’s new series on the Mass.

Walk through the Liturgy with Bishop Barron and be

transformed through insights on this most privileged

and intimate encounter with our Lord Jesus Christ.

See how the Mass brings us out of the fallen world and

into the heavenly realm, how it resonates with a call

from God and a response from his people, the Church,

and, most importantly, how we are intimately joined

with the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Jesus

through the Holy Eucharist.

The Mass will help you understand how to fully,

consciously, and actively participate in the source and

summit of the Christian life.

St. Vincent de Paul "The purpose of human life is to serve, and to

show compassion and the will to help others."

- Albert Schweitzer

Please consider getting involved with The Society of St.

Vincent de Paul and join us at our next meeting which will

be July 12th at 6:00 pm in the school cafeteria.

RETREAT: RETURN OF THE PRODIGAL SON: Friday, July 13 through Sunday, July 15. This weekend

retreat takes participants into one of the most popular

parables. The retreat is designed to help a person respond to

a merciful Father: a Father who waits for us and runs to meet

us where we are. It will be a retreat of healing and

reconciliation. Regular retreat pricing applies. Early bird

rates end on July 2.

PRODIGAL SON - DAY RETREAT: Saturday, July 14.

Can't make the entire weekend retreat? Join retreatants for a

day-long mini-retreat focusing on Rembrandt's painting of

the Prodigal Son and Henri Nouwen's thoughts on the

painting and parable. $20 includes lunch. Advance

registration required.

WHAT DO CATHOLICS BELIEVE ABOUT YOGA,

ETC.? July 24 and 25; 7-8:30 p.m. Much is said in the news

and secular reports today about meditation, yoga, mindfulness and other practices. What does the Catholic

Church say about these things? What can we learn from and

what should we be careful about? Fr. Ken VanHaverbeke

presents this two-night class. $20
