Three Kings Celebration

On January 4th, all parishioners are invited to come celebrate the bilingual feast of the Three Kings which will be held in the school gym, across from the church, from 6:00 PM. This celebration is espe-cially presented for the children aged 3 to 10, al though all children and adults are invited to join in this wonderful festivity. There will be a Christmas play presented by some children of the parish and we hope that the Three Kings stop by our school as they embark on their journey!

SOLEMNITY OF MARY MOTHER OF GOD On January 1st., the Church celebrates the solemnity of the Virgin Mary, Mother of God. We remind you all that this is a Holy Day of Obligation and hope that you all attend, as not attending is committing a mortal sin and impedes you from receiving Holy Communion until you confess it. Pilgrimage to Washington DC

We are organizing a Pilgrimage to Washington DC to participate in the March for Life. The Pilgrimage will

take place from January 18 to January 20 in 2019. We are departing from the Parish on Friday and returning

Mass of the Divine Child

On Dec. 31, we celebrate a Mass for the Divine Child at 7PM. This Mass will be in Spanish and we invite everybody to bring their statues of the Divine Child to be blessed. This Mass is also to celebrate the feast of the Virgin Mary, mother of God, beginning the year with a blessing from God.

El miércoles 31 de Diciembre, invitamos a todos los devotos del Divino Niño a que traigan su estatua para ser bendecida en la Misa de 7 PM. Esta Misa sirve para celebrar la festividad de la Virgen María, Madre de Dios y empezar el año con la bendición de Dios.

Celebración de los Reyes Magos

El viernes, 4 de Enero, todos los parroquianos están invitados a la celebración bilingüe de los Tres Reyes que tendrá lugar en el gimnasio del edifico de la es-cuela desde 6:00 PM. Esta celebración está dirigida, sobre todo, a los niños de 3 a 10 años de edad, aunque todos los niños y adultos están bienvenidos. Espera-mos que los Reyes Magos hagan una parada en su camino para saludar a los niños.

MARIA MADRE DE DIOS La Iglesia celebra el día 1 de enero la solemnidad de la Virgen María, Madre de Dios. Les recordamos que es un día de obligación cuando todos los católicos de esperan que vengan a Misa para recibir las gracias de esta fiesta y no cometer un pecado mortal que les im-pida recibir la comunión hasta que se confiesen. FEAST OF THE HOLY FAMILY OF JESUS, MARY AND JOSEPH

Sunday, 27 December 2015 Dear Brothers and Sisters, Good morning! How well you children sing. Well done! In the climate of joy which is truly that of Christmas, we celebrate this Sunday the Feast of the Holy Family. I am thinking again of the great meeting in Philadelphia this past September; of the many families I have met on my Apostolic Journeys; and of those throughout the world. I would like to greet you all with affection and gratitude especially in our time, in which the family is subject to various kinds of misunderstanding and difficulty which weaken it. Today’s Gospel passage invites families to welcome the light of hope that comes from the home of Nazareth, in which Jesus’ child-hood unfolded in joy. Jesus, says St Luke, “increased in wisdom and in stature, and in favour with God and man” (2:52). The nuclear family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph is for each believer and especially for families an authentic school of the Gospel. Here we admire the fulfilment of the divine plan to make of the family a special community of life and love. Here we learn that every Christian nu-clear family is called to be a “domestic church”, to make the Gospel virtues shine and become a leaven of good in society. The clas-sic traits of the Holy Family are: reflection and prayer, mutual understanding and respect, and a spirit of sacrifice, work and solidari-ty. From the exemplary witness of the Holy Family, each family can find precious guidance for the style and choices of life, and can draw strength and wisdom for each day’s journey. Our Lady and Joseph teach us to welcome children as a gift of God, to beget them and raise them, cooperating wonderfully in the work of the Creator and giving to the world, in each child, a new smile. It is in a unit-ed family that children bring their existence to maturity, living out the meaningful and effective experience of freely given love, ten-derness, reciprocal respect, mutual understanding, forgiveness and joy. I would like to pause above all on joy. The true joy which is experienced in the family is not something random and fortuitous. It is a joy produced by deep harmony among people, which allows them to savour the beauty of being together, of supporting each other on life’s journey. However, at the foundation of joy there is always the presence of God, his welcoming, merciful and patient love for all. If the door of the family is not open to the presence of God and to his love, then the family loses its harmony, individualism pre-vails, and joy is extinguished. Instead, the family which experiences joy — the joy of life, the joy of faith — communicates it spon-taneously, is the salt of the earth, and light of the world, the leaven for all of society. May Jesus, Mary and Joseph bless and protect all the families in the world, so that in them may reign the serenity and joy, the justice and peace which Christ by his Birth brought as a gift to humanity.

Queridos hermanos y hermanas, ¡buenos días! ¡Qué bien cantan estos chicos! Son buenos. En el clima de alegría que es propio de la Navidad, celebramos en este domingo la fiesta de la Sagrada Familia. Vuelvo a pensar en el gran encuentro de Filadelfia, en septiembre pasado; en las muchas familias que encuentro en los viajes apostólicos, y en las de todo el mundo. Quisiera saludarlas a todas con afecto y reconocimiento, especialmente en este tiempo nuestro, en el que la familia está sometida a incomprensiones y dificultades de varios tipos que la debilitan. El Evangelio de hoy invita a las familias a acoger la luz de esperanza que proviene de la casa de Nazaret, en la cual se ha desarrolla-do en la alegría la infancia de Jesús, quien —dice san Lucas— «iba creciendo en sabiduría, en estatura y en gracia ante Dios y ante los hombres» (2, 52). El núcleo familiar de Jesús, María y José es para todo creyente, y en especial para las familias, una auténtica escuela del Evangelio. Aquí admiramos el cumplimiento del plan divino de hacer de la familia una especial comunidad de vida y amor. Aquí aprendemos que todo núcleo familiar cristiano está llamado a ser «iglesia doméstica», para hacer resplandecer las virtu-des evangélicas y llegar a ser fermento de bien en la sociedad. Los rasgos típicos de la Sagrada Familia son: recogimiento y oración, mutua comprensión y respeto, espíritu de sacrificio, trabajo y solidaridad. Del ejemplo y del testimonio de la Sagrada Familia, cada familia puede extraer indicaciones preciosas para el estilo y las opciones de vida, y puede sacar fuerza y sabiduría para el camino de cada día. La Virgen y san José enseñan a acoger a los hijos como don de Dios, a generarlos y educarlos cooperando de forma maravillosa con la obra del Creador y donando al mundo, en cada niño, una sonrisa nueva. Es en la familia unida donde los hijos alcanzan la madurez de su existencia, viviendo la experiencia significativa y eficaz del amor gratuito, de la ternura, del respeto recíproco, de la compren-sión mutua, del perdón y de la alegría. Quisiera detenerme sobre todo en la alegría. La verdadera alegría que se experimenta en la familia no es algo casual y fortuito. Es una alegría que es fruto de la armonía profunda entre las personas, que hace gustar la belleza de estar juntos, de sostenernos mutua-mente en el camino de la vida. Pero en la base de la alegría está siempre la presencia de Dios, su amor acogedor, misericordioso y paciente hacia todos. Si no se abre la puerta de la familia a la presencia de Dios y a su amor, la familia pierde la armonía, prevalecen los individualismos y se apaga la alegría. En cambio, la familia que vive la alegría, la alegría de la vida, la alegría de la fe, la comunica espontáneamente, es sal de la tierra y luz del mundo, es levadura para toda la sociedad. Que Jesús, María y José bendigan y protejan a todas las familias del mundo, para que en ellas reinen la serenidad y la alegría, la jus-ticia y la paz, que ha traído Cristo al nacer como don para la humanidad.
