world, my attendants would be fighting to keep me from being handed over to the Jews. But as it is, my kingdom is "not here." So Pilate said to him, "Then you are a king?" Reading I Daniel 7:13-14 As the visions during the night continued, I saw one like a Son of man coming, on the clouds of heaven; when he reached the Ancient One and was presented before him, the one like a Son of man received dominion, glory, and kingship; all peoples, nations, and languages serve him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that shall not be taken away, his kingship shall not be destroyed.

Responsorial Psalm Psalm 93:1,1-2, 5 The Lord is king; he is robed in majesty. The LORD is king, in splendor robed; robed is the LORD and girt about with strength. The Lord is king; he is robed in majesty. And he has made the world firm, not to be moved. Your throne stands firm from of old; from everlasting you are, O LORD. The Lord is king; he is robed in majesty. Your decrees are worthy of trust indeed; holiness befits your house, O LORD, for length of days. The Lord is king; he is robed in majesty.

Reading II Revelations 1:5-8 Jesus Christ is the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead and ruler of the kings of the earth. To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood, who has made us into a kingdom, priests for his God and Father, to him be glory and power forever and ever. Amen. Behold, he is coming amid the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him. All the peoples of the earth will lament him. Yes. Amen. From Fr. Albert

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

“Rejoice always. Pray without ceasing. In all circumstances give thanks, for this is the will of God for you in Christ

Jesus.” (1Thessalonians: 5:16-18)

The secret of a thankful heart is a conscious choice not to forget what God and others have done for us. Gratitude leads us to have intimacy with God and others. Jesus, in His compassion, showers us with a free blessing every moment. We need to acknowledge the worth and value of that free gift every day in our lives. Every free gift in the spiritual world, is a call to cultivate greater, the spirit of thankfulness! Gratefulness is a word which expresses gratitude of heart, which is related to grace. Let us be thankful to God and others in all circumstances of our lives. If we do not recognize and appreciate the mercy and help shown to us, we will be ungrateful and unkind. Sometimes, we receive, but fail to express thanks. We are happy to get favors, but we fail to be grateful. Ingratitude leads a person to lack of love and kindness, and intolerance towards others. So dear friends, let us not forget in our lives the kindness that we have received from others. During this “Thanksgiving Week” we are reminded to express our sentiments of gratitude to God for His abundant help and mercy and to our parents, family members, pastors, teachers, friends, well-wishers and neighbors for their support and encouragement. Prayer: Lord Jesus, may we never fail to recognize your loving kindness and mercy. Fill our hearts with compassion and thanksgiving and help us to count our blessings with a grateful heart and to give thanks in all circumstances of life. Amen.

Happy and Blessed Thanksgiving!

In Christ, Fr. Albert

A Thanksgiving Prayer Good and gracious God, you do all things well. You make the sun and rain come, nurturing the earth, making it fertile and fruitful. Through Your gift of creation and the work of our hands, we reap an abundant harvest. We give You thanks for Your many gifts that sustain us;

for health and home, dignified labor, for family, friends, neighbors, and those whom -- today -- we may still consider enemies. As we reflect in thanks this day, may we remember those who lack something we have. May our gratitude move us to love, serve, and give. Together we rejoice in Your gifts, and in Your abundant life! Amen.

Everyday Stewardship Recognize God in Your Ordinary Moments Long Live the King Did you know that you can become royalty, for the right price? It’s true — for the low, low cost of $50, you, too, can purchase a 12-square-inch souvenir plot of Scottish land and call yourself “Laird So-and-so.” Now, this lordship or ladyship doesn’t come with the ability to boss anyone around, but maybe your friends will be impressed enough to bend the knee. My point is, we’ve all got our own little fiefdoms — folks or communities for which we have a feeling of responsibility. Maybe we’re not their “king,” but most of us have those we think of as “our people.” Now, in this world, people lay themselves down for their kings. History is riddled with the bodies of men, young and old — and plenty of women and children, too — who were casualties of wars waged by men in power, men who never had to shed their own blood. But in the next world, the King dies for his people. This is leadership par excellence — the leadership of someone whose love is greater than his ambition. We are all leaders of a sort. On the parish level, you have the obvious roles — serving on pastoral council, spearheading the capital campaign, leading the Altar Guild. But you also have the quiet ones who lead from the wings — the janitor who can always be relied upon to do his job, or the volunteer librarian who puts in extra hours on the weekends. There is a saying — find your people. I say, find your people, and find a way to lay yourself down for them, in imitation of the greatest King that ever

was.

Why Do We Do That? Catholic Life Explained: Changes to Mass

Question: Why do we make changes in the Mass? Some seem so small and unimportant. Are they really necessary?

Answer: The celebration of the Eucharist is at the heart of our identity as Catholics. Our purpose as a Church community revolves around the Eucharist. Everything we are and everything we do is measured not only by how well we celebrate, but also by how well we live the sacrament. If that is so, then we as a community will always strive to celebrate the Mass as best we can. The reasons for some changes might seem more obvious than others, but there is a reason behind each one.

The General Instruction of the Roman Missal is the introduction to the Missal that contains all the prayers for the celebration of the Mass. The Order of Mass we use now was issued in 1975 and, as often happens over the course of years, some questions have come up about the proper way of doing some things and whether or not other practices are acceptable. These changes clarify some things and make the celebration of the Mass more meaningful for everyone.

The opportunity is presented to us to better learn and understand each part of the Mass, which in turn should help us deepen our appreciation for its beauty and meaning. We will be a better Church if we have a clearer understanding and knowledge of who and what we celebrate. ©LPi

Advent Silent Day of Prayer: Pondering Annunciation Moments with Mary December 5 Presented by Sandy Setterlund, with Fr. Dennis Lynch

This is a retreat day of silence, contemplative imaginative prayer and reflection. We will contemplate with Mary the Annunciation as the first of many “annunciation moments” that became her way of living. Placing ourselves in Mary’s presence, we will listen deeply as she ponders aloud her journey in faithfully living her first “Yes, here I am Lord.” With Mary as our guide and companion, we will reflect on the “annunciation moments” in our daily lives. Space is limited to 30 participants. Register early! Registration begins at 9 a.m., with a continental breakfast from 9:30 am. The program runs from 9:30 a.m.— 4p.m. and will include Mass and the noon meal. Guests will be asked to wear a mask or face covering in common areas except at mealtimes. We strongly encourage each guest to bring his/her own face covering; however, a limited number of masks will be available for those who do not have their own. Cost: $65. If you are unable to attend due to financial obstacles, please contact us regarding payment plans or other options.
