DearParishioners,!!
Happy 241st Birthday, America.
In 1943, a young woman in Kansas City was having
trouble sleeping. Yes, it was a humid summer night, but her
real concern was for her brother and the other young men
and women fighting in Europe and in Asia. She got out of
bed, took up a pen, and wrote a poem. Little did Frances
Angermayer realize that her poem, known as “Conversion”,
would touch the hearts of millions. It reflected what a
young soldier, who never prayed before, might pray before
he went into battle.
Conversion
Look, God,
I have never spoken to You ….
You see, God,
They told me You didn't exist--
And like a fool--I believed all of this.
Last night from a shell hole
I saw Your sky--
I figured right then
They had told me a lie.
Funny--I had to come to this hellish place,
Before I had the time to see Your Face.
But, I'm sure glad, God,
I met You today.
The signal. Well, God,
I'll have to go. Look, now--
This will be a horrible fight--
Who knows--
I may come to Your house tonight--
Though I wasn't friendly
With You before,
I wonder, God,
If You'd wait at Your door--
Look--I'm crying!
Me!--shedding tears!--
I wish I'd known You these many years--
Strange-since I met You--
I'm not afraid to die.
Seventy years later the message is still relevant.
Pray for our nation and all who protect her, at home
and in the foreign wars.
Welcome, Fr. Jose de Jesus Rodriguez. Fr. Jose,
a Colombia native, has been ordained for five years.
We wish him happy and fruitful years at St. Aloysius.
We are honored that Joseph Cardinal Tobin,
Archbishop of Newark, will confirm our young candidates
for Confirmation on October 28th. Pray for our 110 young
people preparing for Confirmation. Do you have your
prayer partner’s name?
Thanks to all who worked and planned so well for
our Vacation Bible School, and also to all who donated
material and monies for it.
The Church fiscal year runs from July 1st to
June 30th. Now is a good time for me to share with you the
projects that have been completed in the first half of 2017:
• Church fire alarm system installed with a dedicated
phone line to the Caldwell Fire Department.
• The oak floor in the right side aisle has been replaced.
• New LED lighting on the tabernacle and Sacred Heart
statue.
• Two large trees that had rotted out were taken down.
• Security cameras were installed on the shrines.
• Five new signs were erected on the church property.
• Garage roof repairs finished.
• Electrical mains checked out.
• Trees and shrubs have been planted along the Forest
Avenue entrance driveway.
• Our parish computer system has been updated.
The following must be done soon:
• Sound system problems.
• New gym doors (the present ones are 61 years old)
Contract signed.
• Dry wells in parking lot must be raised.
• Planning work on new rest rooms is continuing.
• Sanctuary chairs need reupholstering.
• Evaluate shrubbery in front of church.
While all these projects mentioned above are important,
their importance is in how they serve the Gospel, how they
make God’s Kingdom on earth more accessible to more
people. That’s what gives meaning to new lighting, to roof
repairs, and so forth.
As we continue to celebrate our Quasqui Centenni-
al (thanks, Steve Brown), our 125th anniversary as a Parish,
I want to thank our hard-working and creative committee.
Upcoming events include: tour of Sacred Heart Cathedral
Basilica; a Yankee game; parish picnic; fine-arts evening,
honoring the Dominican Sisters, our closing Mass followed
by a parish Dinner-Dance at the Hanover Manor.
Sincerely in Christ,
Msgr. Desmond

MISSIONS
As part of our Mission-Coop, our mission speaker
will give the homily at all Masses next week.
Rev. Jan Kwiecien, Redemptorist, will speak on
behalf of the Redemptorists ministries in Ukraine and
Russia on July 8-9, 2017.
The Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer,
Redemptorists, is a missionary congregation that ministers
to the poor in more than 70 countries around the world.
The area of the former Soviet Union is undoubtedly a place
where many neglected people need help. Thanks to the
efforts of Polish Redemtorists, we have been building a
church there and completing the construction of a church in
central Russia.
The second collection next weekend is for the
Missions.

THINK GREEN
The Dominican Summer Film
Festival 2017 will be held on
Wednesday, July 5, 2017 in the
Dominican Sisters Motherhouse,
1 Ryerson Avenue, Caldwell, NJ
from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.
The film for the evening is “The
Doctrine of Discovery: Unmask-
ing the Domination Code”. This
film tells the story of how little
known Vatican documents of the
15th century resulted in a tragic global momentum of domination and dehumanization. The Green Team
Stewardship Reflection
“whoever does not take up his cross and follow after me
is not worthy of me.” - Matthew 10:38
Pope Benedict XVI said “The world offers you comfort.
But you were not made for comfort, you were made for
greatness”. “Comfort” puts me first. “Picking up your
cross and following Jesus” puts God and others first. Why
settle for comfort when you can achieve greatness! Pick up
your cross, ask Jesus for guidance on using your gifts and
live the life God intended for you!
