Overall planSchool undertakings We conducted an

environmental review

This Survey conducted by the green schools committee members revealed : 4 litter black-spots;

canteen, central area, school yard & old house area .

Achievements

since discovering these

black spots we as a

committee decided to

create a litter busters

timetable in which the

members from each year

will clean up these black

spots after lunch each

day (e.g. first years

Monday) this action was

a great success.

ContinuationUndertakings

we had an educational evening in the central area informing the school body of our plan and our expectations of them.

We also invited an educational ‘bin it’ workshop to our school to further inform the school of their responsibilities towards litter and chewing gum

Achievements

This was a worthwhile activity as we informed the student body of our efforts and the majority took our expectations to heart.

This activity also received a positive response as the presenters were both very humorous and informative.

Difficulties As a committee we

encountered many difficulties over the course of the programme.

We had some difficulty reaching out to some of our more rebellious students but even they listened to us after a educational talk from teachers and green school committee.

Another difficulty was the verbal abuse some members got from the school body as they collected litter from around the school. This is still a problem but our members still bravely patrol the school on their dedicated day.

The last difficulty was finding dedicated individuals to give up their time and stick to the programme.

Our Green school/Neat Streets

motto

After great discussion and animation the

committee came up with a motto to

encourage the school community to create a

more green environment.

We have five of these signs up in the litter

black-spot areas around the school with the

school crest

The grant received from An Taisce enabled

the committee to purchase these signs
