The poster ‘Olivia’s Story’. The children’s favourite songs and everything they need to perform them – musical instruments, recordings, a stage, costumes… It’s Game On! – this year’s Sport Relief song. You’ll find this at http://www.sportrelief.com/schoolsong 1. Display the poster ‘Olivia’s Story’ and read the poem to the children. Explain to them that the photograph shows Olivia at her recent nursery graduation ceremony, when she overcame her nerves to lead the other children in singing a song. Inspired by Olivia, they’re going to sing for Sport Relief! 2. Talk with the children about how they could raise money by singing. Would they like to take part in a sponsored sing? Would they rather put on a show, singing for their parents, carers and friends? 3. Let the children choose their favourite songs and give them an opportunity to practise. 4. Learn It’s Game On! – this year’s Sport Relief Song at http://www.sportrelief.com/schoolsong 5. Why not learn Makaton signs for some of your songs? Or include some active numbers like Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes? 6. Collect sponsorship or sell tickets to your concert and have lots of fun strutting your stuff for Sport Relief! Olivia comes from Uganda, A country that’s quite far away. She lives with her Uncle and Grandma, And is finishing nursery today. Her Grandma’s so proud, she’s invited a crowd, And the whole neighbourhood’s come along. But Olivia’s brave, as she takes to the stage, To lead all her friends in a song. Olivia’s got a real head start, As she moves on from nursery to school. Most kids there start later, at seven or eight, Or get no education at all. So let’s run, jump and play on Spot’s Sport Relief day, And help our fundraising grow. With the money we earn, we can help others learn, Are you ready? Get set now, let’s go! 1. Display the poster ‘Olivia’s Story’ and read the poem to the children.
