The 2016 Red Nose Day campaign didn’t just raise an outstanding $38 million, it firmly established our presence in the United States and laid the groundwork for achieving our vision of a just world, free from poverty – one nose at a time. Building on the success of our inaugural campaign in 2015, we established a year-round US-based team led by CEO Janet Scardino, made waves in schools and workplaces across the country, deepened our relationships with our incredible major partners NBC, Walgreens, Mars M&M’S and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and most importantly, helped save and change millions of lives.

This year’s nine-week campaign culminated on Red Nose Day on May 26. Among the many highlights was the two-hour NBC live primetime Special hosted by Craig Ferguson, which was a night to remember. Million of Americans engaged in the campaign by tuning in to NBC and actively sharing their support for Red Nose Day across social media. Produced by NBC, Irwin Productions and with full support from Comic Relief’s founder Richard Curtis and Executive Producer Lily Sobhani, the live Special featured 70+ stars including comedians Paul Rudd, Sarah Silverman, Tracy Morgan, Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele. In true Red Nose Day fashion, the evening was a roller coaster of laughs and tears - with a number of unforgettable and emotional appeal films. Reporting back the impact of the money raised is of great importance to us and we were able to report back on a story we aired during Red Nose Day’s first year in the US. In 2015, comedian and good friend of Red Nose Day, Jack Black visited Eastern Uganda to raise awareness of homeless children. While there, he spent time with a child named Felix who was living an unthinkably difficult life on the streets of Kampala. What Felix yearned for more than anything was to go to school. Thanks to contributions from generous Americans and the work of the local organization Retrak, during the 2016 Red Nose Day Special, we were able to share the joyous news that Felix is now living with a loving foster family, safely off the streets, and getting the education he never thought was possible. His story is just one of many that demonstrates the impact that Red Nose Day grants are having on children in the US and around the world. It’s stories like this that really illustrate the power of coming together to make a difference – and reminds us all that while the road is long, every step we take towards helping to make a better life for every vulnerable child is so very valuable. All the work we do at Comic Relief USA is for one simple reason: every child deserves the chance to be healthy, safe, educated, and empowered to fulfill their full potential. Despite how divided our world may sometimes feel, the people we’ve reached with our message remind us time and time again that doing good brings people together. The American public has shown that their hearts and minds are aligned with our cause - evidenced by raising over $60M and buying more than 15M Red Noses in just our first two years. We are overjoyed to report that, since our launch, those monies have cumulatively had an impact on 2,659,642 children’s lives in the US and around the world. Though there is still more work to do, the generosity and the passion of our supporters across America is staggering and a constant source of inspiration for us all. I am thankful for their commitment and support. I also thank members of our staff who worked so hard to deliver a stellar campaign and our full range of friends and partners whose support is crucial.

Sincerely, Kevin Cahill, Chairman

It is an honor to serve as CEO of Comic Relief USA and introduce Red Nose Day to America as the nation’s gateway to giving. On behalf of the entire organization, we cannot thank our magnificient donors enough for their generosity. To each and every fundraiser who supported Red Nose Day in their workplace, at school and with their community - thank you so much for making our work possible.

We’re incredibly proud to share that half of the money distributed by Red Nose Day 2016 will be spent right here in the U.S. and half is being spent in some of the poorest communities in Latin America, Asia, and Africa. In 2016, the Red Nose Day Fund awarded grants to 11 pre-selected grantee partners: Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Covenant House, Save the Children, Children’s Health Fund, Feeding America, charity: water, GAVI, the Vaccine Alliance, the Global Fund, Oxfam America, National Council of La Raza, and National Urban League. Red Nose Day is proud to further their great work to ensure that children and young people living in poverty are safe, healthy and educated.

Thank you immensely, Janet Scardino, CEO
