YOU DO NOT NEED TO RENEW NOW UNTIL JANUARY 2020!

The Town is going to be upgrading our membership software. There will be a few one-time changes here at the Senior Center.

The most important thing to know right now is that the Senior Center New Membership Year will now go from January 1, 2020 until December 31, 2020, instead of September to August.

YOU DO NOT NEED TO RENEW NOW UNTIL JANUARY 2020!

We are extending all current memberships until December 31, 2019. We will do a MEMBERSHIP DRIVE in January 2020.

For newcomers who need to get a “first time” membership they can get one now or wait. Your current membership is good until December 31, 2019 and you do not need to renew until January 2020. If you have any questions please feel free to contact us 860-647-3211 or ask at the Front Office. Please note: ***You must sign up for all Senior Center activities/programs/classes (3x) three times a year , even if there is no fee required. Your name will not show on an attendance sheet unless you have signed up during each of the (3) three annual registration periods . Registrations/classes/activities/programs are scheduled by season: 1. Fall 2. Winter/Spring and 3. Summer. The (3) registration dates for these seasons at the Senior Center are usually in 1. July/August 2. December and 3. Ap ril . Look for specific registration dates in the monthly newsletter, on our website www.townofmanchester.org, and/or in the Journal Inquirer. *Foot Care–Appointment Only Friday, Oct 4 th & Oct 18 th The cost of foot care is now $29 due to substantial increases in insurance and supply costs as well as maintaining a professional nursing staff. As always, if anyone has a problem with the increase we will adjust accordingly. This is a valuable service we offer, so give the Health Department a call at 860-647-3173 and make that important appointment today! This service is not billed to Medicare, Medicaid, or private insurance. THIS CLINIC IS NOT FOR DIABETICS. If you have diabetes, diabetic neuropathy and loss of protection in your foot, MEDICARE PART B covers One (1) diabetic foot exam every SIX (6) months by a Podiatrist.

There are Two Types of Flu Shots to Choose: Which One Should You Get? According to infectious disease expert Amesh A. Adalja, MD, senior scholar at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security “Most places are going to be primarily stocking the quadrivalent and this is a good vaccine because it covers against more strains.” However, there is one big exception: The CDC recommends that people who are 65 and older get what’s called a high-dose influenza vaccine — which is another name for a tri valent vaccine. “Because of the way it’s formulated, it only has three strains,” Adalja says, explaining that with only three strains in the formula, you can make the doses a bit higher than with four. “It’s kind of a tradeoff: You’re getting the benefit of a higher dose against some of the more dangerous strains. In a high dose, there’s only so much you can pack into a vaccine.” Chronic Pain Self-Management Workshop FREE Chronic Pain Self-Management Program in the BINGO RM from 1:00-3:30pm , starting October 8 th and running through November 19 th. Barbara Womer, MS, Community Health Educator from North Central Area Agency on Aging will lead this 6-week workshop that helps people with chronic pain better manage their symptoms and their daily lives. This program gives people the confidence and the motivation they need to manage the challenges of living with chronic pain. All participants receive the Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Course book, the Chronic Pain Workbook and the Moving Easy Program CD. Pre-registration is required and class size is limi ted. Call the Manchester Health Department at (860)647-3173 to RE GISTER.
