A P R I L 2020 - Newsletter
City of Manchester - Department of Human Services
IS YOUR DRIVER’S LICENSE READY TO FLY?
Starting October 1, 2020, the US Federal Government will require anyone boarding an airplane for domestic
travel or entering certain federal buildings to have a “verified” driver’s license, state-issued ID card or be
required to show additional proof of identification, such as a passport. This federal law is known as REAL ID.
The verification is indicated on your license or ID card by a gold star on the top right corner.
WHAT DOES A VERIFIED ID DO FOR ME? - These identity-checked driver licenses and DMV-issued ID cards
are part of a federal program showing that the credential holders meet a federal identity standard that will
be in place on October 1, 2020 for flying domestically or entering certain federal buildings. Connecticut
DMV started offering this verification in October 2011 so that everyone had an opportunity at renewal time
to get the verification prior to October of 2020.
AM I ELIGIBLE FOR A VERIFIED CREDENTIAL?- Only U.S. citizens and permanent residents are eligible for a
verified credential. Citizens without a valid U.S. Passport, U.S. Birth Certificate or U.S. Consular Report of
Birth Abroad will be subject to verification using the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements Program
(SAVE). An Alien Registration Receipt card (Form I-151) is not considered an acceptable document and must
be updated before any Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles credential can be issued.
WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO GET IT? -This process generally will involve residents bringing in original proof
of identity documents.
1. Proof means: an original birth certificate and other primary documents, original Social Security card and
original papers showing permanent residency in the U.S.
2. Also, if a name is different than as shown on a birth certificate, the person must also show proof of the
name change: original marriage licenses, divorce decrees, legal documents name changes by court
orders, adoption papers, etc. Certified copies will also be accepted.
3. Everyone wanting the identity verification will also need to show their address on two (2) items of
proof.
Requirements are different for non-US citizens.
For more information visit: ct.gov/dmv/REALID or contact your local DMV office.

A Friendly Reminder about PARKING at the Senior Cen ter…
Handicap parking Spaces are for people with PERMITS, displayed on the dash, mirror, or showing a
handicap symbol on their license plate. We appreciate your Consideration for our members and guests who
are entitled to use these clearly marked spots.
Both CARS and PEOPLE share the Senior Center Parking Lot – following the reminders below will increase
efforts to keep everyone safe as they come in and out of our center.
1. Please DRIVE IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION – DO NOT ENTER FROM THE FRONT of the Senior Center
through the DO NOT ENTER / ONE WAY driveway
2. Use your TURN SIGNALS
3. If at all possible, don’t wait – waiting for drivers to return to their cares is frustration to other drivers
and causes hold-ups throughout the lot, not just in your immediate area
4. Park courteously and within the lines
5. OBEY SPEED LIMITS – Again, the SAME RULES APPLY IN THE PARKING LOT AS THEY DO ON THE ROADS.
Speed limits are included in this. Most large parking lots have posted speed limit signs, but if there isn’t
one posted, KEEP IT TO 15 MPH, maximum. Parking lots are full of pedestrians; sometimes pedestrians
that cannot be easily seen. You should be on FULL ALERT, which usually means a lower speed.
6. Slower speeds will also help to protect against fender benders. The most common accident in a parking
lot is between a car backing out of a space, and a car driving down the aisle. Parking lots can be a
driver’s worst nightmare, but following the above reminders will increase the SAFETY AND EASE OF USE
OF THE SENIOR CENTER PARKING LOT and will be very must appreciated by all.
ONE LAST THING…….
PLEASE DO NOT PARK DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF THE SENIOR CENTER. It is
for BUS DROP OFF / PICK UP ONLY. You may park out front from the
blue mailbox down.
Your Safety and Well Being is Our Priority and
We Thank You for Your Attention to this Important Subject!

2020 CENSUS F. A. Q ‘s
What is the census? The census is a count of every person who lives in the United States and its territories. It happens
every 10 years. In early 2020, you will be asked to count everyone who lives in your home as of April
1st. Responding to the 2020 Census is a chance to shape your future.
What’s in it for me?
Is my information Safe?Your responses to the 2020 Census are safe, secure, and protected by federal law. Your answers can
only be used to produce statistics. They cannot be used against you by any government agency or
court in nay way – not by the FBI, not by the CIA, not by the DHS, and not be ICE.
When can I respond to the census? In early 2020, every household in America will receive a notice to complete the census online, by
phone, or by mail. In May, the U.S. Census Bureau will begin following up in person with households
that have yet to respond.
What will I be asked? You will be asked a few simple questions, like age, sex, and the number of people who live in your
home, including children.
What won’t be asked? The census will never ask for Social Security numbers, money or donations, or anything related to
political parties.

SAMPLE LETTER ONLY
Dear Resident:
This is your invitation to respond to the 2020 Census. We need your help to count everyone in the
United States by providing basic information about all adults, children, and babies living or staying at
this address.
Results from the 2020 Census will be used to:
• Direct billions of dollars in federal funds to local communities for schools, roads, and other public
services.
• Help your community prepare to meet transportation and emergency readiness needs.
• Determine the number of seats each state has in the U.S. House of Representatives and your political
representation at all levels of government.
The Census Bureau is using the internet to securely collect your information. Responding online helps us
conserve natural resources, save taxpayer money, and process data more efficiently. If you are unable to
complete your 2020 Census questionnaire online, we will send you a paper questionnaire in a few
weeks for you to complete and mail back.
The census is so important that your response is required by law, and your answers are kept completely
confidential. If you do no respond, we will need to send a Census Bureau interviewer to your home to
collect your answers in person. If you need help completing your 2020 Census questionnaire, please call
toll-free [ phone number removed ].
Thank you for your prompt response.
Sincerely,
Steven D. Dillingham
Director

If you registered for a class (listed on pg 8) and did not get in to the class you wanted:
Your name will automatically be placed on the class waiting list and a credit will be applied to your

advising you that you are being enrolled into this class from the waiting list. The instructor must clear this
information with Missy Rankin, Recreation Supervisor, before anyone may attend the class. Attendance
sheets are taken into accountability. It is an unfair practice to others on the waiting list if you attend this
class before given permission to attend. We usually wait about a month (30 days) before we open waiting

If you would like to register for another class, or check for lottery class openings after the drawing, you
can do so starting on May 27th . You can use the credit on your account at that time, or you can save the
