SAO PAULO – VIRACOPOS INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF BRAZIL
Sao Paulo Viracopos International Airport, located in Campinas, 90 km north Sao Paulo city and in Sao Paulo state, has experienced a huge increase in passenger traffic over the last seven years, reaching 10 million passengers in 2015. This increase is largely due to the installation of Azul, an airline formed in 2008, which choose Viracopos as its principal base and hub, mainly with domestic flights. Viracopos is also one of the most important airports for cargo traffic in South America, with an average of 250,000 tonnes a year.
The volume of traffic is forecast to reach more than 50 million passengers by 2042, date that will finish the current concession contract. In the coming years Viracopos International Airport will be connected to the economic centre of Sao Paulo by a high speed train link, increasing its importance as the second international aiport of Sao Paulo state.
