FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: The following is an email from the Monroe County Democratic Committee sent to their members. RE: Another Radical Rick (Santorum) Dear MCDC Supporter: We’re all familiar with Rick Perry and Rick Santorum – the Tea Party idols and presidential hopefuls constantly making headlines for their radical conservative views. But there’s more to them than that. The right-wing Ricks have been rubbing elbows lately with our local Monroe County Republicans. Last month it was Perry coming to Rochester at the invitation of the County GOP. Today, we have State Senator Rich Funke joining Santorum in Albany to “take a victory lap” after defeating the Women’s Equality Act. Is it disturbing that Funke, who campaigned as a moderate, would jump at the opportunity to share a stage with Santorum – a man who opposes women’s access to contraception and health services for rape victims? Absolutely. Is it surprising? Not at all. Monroe County Republicans have continued to move further and further to the right, shedding their moderate façade. But even for them, declaring “victory” for obstructing women’s rights is absurd. We know that the stakes are high in 2015 and beyond. We know we need to stand together as Democrats against Funke, Perry, Santorum and every other radical, right-wing extremist celebrated by the Monroe County Republican Party. That is why we need your support. Make sure you and your friends are registered to vote!
